Time to focus on our next opponent, and game numero uno in the MVFC.

Lots of guys on that team recruited by this staff. I don't think Bob Nielson and co. are going to have a warm reception in Macomb.
WIU has started the season with two wins, and are favored to get their third at Coastal Carolina. Two wins were 41-14 at Tennessee Tech, and 38-20 at Northern Arizona. I'd be livid if USD ever played their entire non-conference schedule on the road like that.

I'm making my first trip to Macomb. Anyone have any info they care to share about tailgating/gameday there? It looks like this game is their homecoming.

It's their homecoming. The two times I've been there I never saw a tailgate going. Parking is somewhat awkward and is more like a high school field than college. There's a place downtown called ... Chicks on the Square...home of chicken lips. Great good and bar but my guess is it will be parked.
I'll look into if USD is gonna have a tent somewhere. Don't spend the night there. We are staying in either Iowa City or Burlington on Friday.

Would enjoy hearing from some WIU fans to preview what WIU is doing this year and how they have looked (beyond just the box scores we can all look up).
I noticed that Steve McShane (their returning top RB) got 7 carries for 7 yards in game one against Ten Tech and then had none in the NAU game. Hurt? Sophmore Max Norris (a bigger back) has been getting the majority of the carries.
I am looking forward to watching the game against Coastal Carolina on Saturday to get a better feel for what USD will see the following week. Would expect WIU to be physical and improved over last year. Brett Taylor is a beast at ILB. Listened to the MVFC Coaches podcast before the season and the WIU HC said they were switching to a 3-4 defense if I remember correctly. Hopefully a WIU fan with knowledge can come on here and fill in more of the details.
Obviously the game was very close last year. I think this will be the biggest test for USD so far. Happy that Lenoir and Borsellino are gone at WR. They may very well have younger receivers just as good though - I have no idea.
Can USD's OL and Defensive front continue to improve? That will dictate how far they go. Looking good so far for sure.

Tailgating is in Q lot North of Hanson Field. I know the two best hotels are full since some relatives couldn't find a room. Burlington, Quad Cities, Keokuk, Fort Madison probably best options.

Yeah tailgating is in Q lot there is a designated area for people who pay for those spots and the rest are 1st come 1st serve. As far as are team on offense we have probably the best line in the valley with all but one starter being a senior and the non senior is a junior with lot's of playing experience very deep at RB Norris has gotten most of the carries but McShane should be back for that game he had ankle sprain in the 1st game WR's we lost arguably 2 of the best in school history Jaelon Acklin has been off to a hot start on defense we went to a 3-4 this year which makes me very happy we got a very good group of LB's Khalen Saunders is a very good d-lineman are Db's have looked much improved but most WIU fans would tell you that is still one of are biggest concerns I'm looking forward to this game for a lot of reason we need to get through coastal carolina 1st it's homecoming are home opener and Nielsen coming back even though i can tell you i wasn't one bit sad to see him and his staff going because to me there is more to be a football coach than wins and losses and they failed to realize that when they were here.

Western Illinois kind of has USD's number lately in the big sports. Last year they really pulled one out of the hat to take a win out of Vermillion that they were extremely fortunate to get. They needed quite a few plays to go their way just to survive in the game and thing fell completely their way in the end and some of it was just plain dumb luck. Their women's basketball team swept the Coyotes and I don't ever remember that happening. Their men's basketball team was a half court rim out from sending the Yotes packing in the first round of the Summit tourney. The Coyotes need a little payback. That is easier said then done. Not prediction time yet because the Necks game at Coastal Carolina will be a good prognosticating tool. I don't believe the Coyotes have defeated WIU since joining the MVFC. This game will probably go a long ways towards being a tie breaker with either seeding or which team does or does not go to the playoffs. The Coyotes are either going to continue living on cloud 9 this year or will succumb once again to Western Illinois in athletics.

"Prognosticating tool?!" Damn Coyote Fan, you have upped the quality of your posts since we got on this win streak. I like it.
Can't disagree with your thoughts on Western Illinois either. Last year's loss to them was tougher to stomach than the UND loss.

It was a good tailgating atmosphere. They had Dennis DeYoung live in concert. Tickets were cheap and it was easy to get into the stadium. Not a very big crowd that day. Unfortunately we lost the game and Sam McLaren that day to a spine injury thankfully he's recovered and is now on the coaching staff

Is WIU truly favored over Coastal? They are transitioning to FBS and their historical records have been great. Joe Moglia is still the head coach as well. What gives?

Favored by 5.5, and I'm pretty sure Moglia has stepped away due to health issues. CCU lost to UAB and those guys haven't even had a team for a couple years. I don't think they are going to be very successful this year.
