Glad to see the conversation turn back to football instead the great Pizza Ranch debate! I agree that 2-6 are very interchangeable, but we still can all take our own shot at the Pre-Season rankings along with which Yotes are deserving of pre-season honors. So here are my picks for what they are worth. 1. North Dakota State 2. Northern Iowa 3. South Dakota 4. South Dakota State 5. Illinois State 6. Youngstown State 7. Southern Illinois 8. Missouri State 9. Western Illinois 10. Indiana State Offensive Pre-Season USD Candidates: Shamar Jackson - WR Tanner Anderson - OL Defensive Pre-Season USD Candidates: Darin Greenfield - DL Nathan Schultz - DL Andrew Gray - DB Phillip Powell - DB No offense to Tanner, but he seemed to be the weak link on the line at times last year (unless it was injury), because I remember Bianchi subbing for him at times at RT. I’d go Diggs or Ciurej as an OL pick. Jensen possibly but hard after his injury last season.

NDSU's history says they will lose one game this season. I would not be shocked if it happened at the Dome. But, there history also tells us that loss will probably come in the FargoDome to a team you wouldn't expect.

Sixth, yeah, right Zimmer. With all the starters and experience we have back? When are they just going to dress you in a blue and yellow skirt and give you a pair of pompoms?

Zim has been open about it, his job is not to report objectively about the bunnies but to keep their many readers happy. Probably a reasonable business model.

Actually I think what he has said is newspapers aren’t title IX and there is no guarantee of equal coverage.
But, I cannot say he didn’t objectively attempt to predict the standings. Elsen’s prediction wasn’t that much different. NDSU is a cut above everyone. Then the next 5 could be in any order. For all we know Zimmer has us going 7-4 and still finishing 6th. It isn’t unreasonable to think we could even finish 6-5. That’s the thing about the MVFC. Every week you better be ready to play.

Noticed a few players no longer listed on the football roster: two offensive linemen, freshman Jack Clement and soph Justin Lewis, also junior linebacker Matt Johnson. Don't really know much about any of these players. Things probably just didn't work out for them. That can happen to anyone. Best of luck and thanks for your efforts as Coyotes. Three more players no longer listed on the football roster: Tre Morris soph OL, Dodi Makwinja soph LB and Justin Heinrichs jr DB. No social commentary or panic at all, merely an observation. I think all were walkons. No mention of Brevin Kaiser in Argus QB preview. He’s no longer showing on the roster online either. LB Matt Johnson also gone. OL Jack Clement removed. DL Mitch Stanley removed. OL Sean Chisholm removed. Justin Lewis removed. Sorry if any of those were previously posted.

I'm always curious when underclassmen leave the team. Did they find their heart isn't in it? Too big of a change from high school? Not a good match with the staff? USD isn't what they thought it might be? Are they still enrolled in school? I'll never get the answers I'm looking for, but there's a reason why I've stopped trying to keep track of players who I haven't seen on the field or mentioned from practice (and I promise it's not because I'm too busy).

Stanley and Kaiser are the only 2 that are new to me iirc. Kaiser was a walk-on and many times this is when they will get a scholly or focus on academics as it gets harder. Lewis had many injuries, not sure on the rest

Players leave for a variety of reasons. Some transfer to get immediate playing opportunities at other schools. Some quit to focus on studies. Some leave because they just get burned out with the heavy schedule. Some are forced out due to injury. Etc...

There's always going to be attrition, most for the reasons you've stated, but five from the offensive line unit seems to be a lot. Illustrates why a team can never have too many offensive linemen. I know one was an academic casualty, so I guess that would be another reason, but I imagine you could also group that with focus on studies as well. I really had high hopes for Chisholm, don't like losing him at all, but next man up.

Kaiser would've been 4th or 5th on the depth chart as a walk-on at QB. Not surprising to see him transferring
