You've made your stance clear. So clear in fact, that I wonder if you have a connection to a QB lower on the depth chart. If someone on the roster is better they should get the job. Simmons is now the only guy to have taken a snap though, and he has shown great flashes in his limited chances. Simmons has all the tools. He surely has plenty to learn, but he's got a better arm than Streveler (according to Nielson - and anyone who's seen both QBs) and is quite agile too. I'll be shocked if Simmons isn't the starter next year. And you have made your stance that he is the starter. He beat an ISU team last year yes he did. Not a great performance but he won. Has done nothing this year because Sterv was way better. Dont start with this SIU crap either. He did nothing but hand the ball off. Yes he threw the ball but did nothing to win the game. When you come in and have 3 yards to go for a td big deal. If i recall it was a shut out. He has a stronger arm than Strev but NOT A BETTER ARM!!!!! Remember that. No way does he compare to the offensive player of the year!! And this crap if I have a QB lower on the chart is just that. Is simmoms your son? All you do is say hes the best. My opinion is my opinion. Yours is yours. I think he is not good enough to be the starter. Why am i wrong and your right? He is cluless out there. Cant read a defense, doesnt remember plays and looks like he is affraid to get hit. He looks for the #1 option then he gets flustered if not open. Do you think he is being congratulated when he comes off the field from schlafke? He is being told what he did wrong over and over. Your right he can throw it 70 yards good luck with that. Wow! No hyperbole in there at all. You know all this, how?

With this coaching staff ...nobody is guaranteed a starting position next year. Nielson and his staff have made it evident that they want to raise the level of competition every spring ball and camp in competing for starting spots. This has been proven if you see how many starters this year were freshman and red shirt freshman that took upper class mans spots. Obviously not talking about 2 Starting suspended corners (suspended). So I would say Simmons is not the guaranteed starter next year. The QB competition in camp will be a great one to watch. Simmons has a slight edge cause of experience but that alone will not win him the starting position. The QB the performs the best in camp for the chosen offense and gives the team the best chance to win will be the starter for 2018! I’m hearing good things about all of them.

Know all what? I watch the games. By the way Ryan Saeger beat NDSU so by default he should of been the starter his last year not the #3 QB. He did have a win in the valley so he was the automatic starter!! But a win against ISU is the samething.

When you come in and have 3 yards to go for a td big deal. If i recall it was a shut out. Also "he has won games in conference " So what so did Ryan Saeger and I believe it was against a little better opponent you know like the team that normally wins it all (NDSU if you have no idea what i am talking about). So if you win a game in the valley your an automatic starter? LOL thats fumny. He has a stronger arm than Strev but NOT A BETTER ARM!!!!! Remember that. I feel I've been fair in my assessment of Simmons. I was critical of his performance against SIU until someone mentioned that there was no need to open the playbook. He has shown great flashes at times the past two seasons, but unquestionably has work to do in order to be a great quarterback. That will come with experience. Streveler was less than impressive throwing the ball last season and turned into about the best QB in FCS this year. How can you be confident he won't be the starter and that someone else is better when your only justification is that you watch the games? We haven't seen anyone else. Best QB will be the starter, the staff isn't going to be choosing favorites. And if someone beats Simmons they'll have my full support. But unless this staff indicates anyone else might be the starter I'm going to assume that it is Simmons.

Someone mentioned elsewhere that Judge may return. I guess I never got the reason for his departure, but that would be a huge boost for our suddenly thin secondary.

Not saying he wont be the starter. What I am saying in a one line reply on page one was I dont think he is guaranteed to be the starter. It wont be handed to him. Its up for grabs.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=aoQKD6Pm32cIf any of you think even remotely that all this game is are X's and O's, and that team chemistry, love, and commraderie don't make up a large portion of final results, then I strongly suggest you watch this press conference from yesterday. Strevelar and BVR are not only great athletes, they are the epitome of what this program at USD is all about. Then, at the 7:10 mark of this press conference, watch our head Coach's body reaction along with voice tone as he answers a question. This coach, this staff, and the administration is 100% bought in. Period. If any of you can watch this and not feel "the buy in" by staff and players, then I will tell you that you never have been in a champions locker room, or one heading that course. This team went through more crap, more injuries, and more bad press as a result of poor judgement by 3 young players then any team ever should have. Strevelar and Van Roekel are class acts, are as everyone that out on that uniform yesterday. We had a horrendous start,no question about it, but the character of this team came out the 2nd half, and although we lost that game, I hope I'm right in saying this....the 2nd half response has set the tone for the immediate future of Coyote football. To the seniors that have laid the foundation for a successful future, thank you for absolutely everything. You hung in there and provided fantastic leadership for the younger guys coming in. You are great young men. At the end of the day, football is still a game, but my bet your experience will set the tone and define who you are as a person the rest of your lives. Remember with great memories your time in Vermillion. To the coaches, all I can say is thank you. This season was a success despite what a few may say to bring it down. You went through more adversity than any situation I've ever been around, and you did it with class, and made no excuses. You coached these guys up. And you have bought into Coyote football. I have personally witnessed it, and I can't be more grateful than I am. We are set for a great run. Lastly, to Chris Strevelar, my hope is that the sports writers that vote for the Walter Payton award as the top football player in the FCS understand fully just how good you are. Not only are you a good athlete, you are a good person. And I can say with no qualm you are the greatest competitor I have ever been around. Thank you. And when they announce your name as the PLAYER OF THE YEAR, I hope our entire fan base will reach out to you and thank you as well. When you left Minnesota you had choices. After watching your press conference, I know you feel you made the right choice, and I'm grateful you did. Thank you so much for an exciting 2 years.

I hope we can find another kicker that we have confidence in beyond 30 yards. It would be good to add points instead of turning the ball over on downs when we’re just outside the red zone. My guess is they really like Dom Long the K they redshirted from western Nebraska. Also redshirted a punter and long snapper. We have a kicker named Long Duck Dong?!! That's epic. /s

After watching your press conference, I know you feel you made the right choice, and I'm grateful you did. Thank you so much for an exciting 2 years. I don't disagree with what you are saying here but this is pretty much the exact thing you have said or will say after every football season so I really don't know how much this really applies to this team. You predict every season is going to be a great one and you predict the Coyotes will win every game. I know you are not going to like this part but one of the big trends of this team for not only this year but many years in the past is that the longer in a game that it goes and the longer in a season that it goes the more this team tends to regress. I was pretty certain that when Sam Houston got ahead 41-14 at half that the Coyotes would make a run at them in the second half. They made a little more of a run than I thought they would but in the end when the game was truly on the line is when Sam Houston took over in the end. When ya put yourself in a hole you have to live with the consequences. Sam Houston changed what they were doing on offense and that made it easier on the Coyote D to stop them. So in general what does everyone think. The Coyotes finished 7-4 in the regular season and won a playoff game. That in itself is a great improvement but the way the season finished is still bothersome to me. If the Coyotes could have avoided the late season slump we probably are seeded and are still playing today and people are still saying that the Coyotes are elite and have a realistic chance to win it all. With the upsets of the seeded teams there is even a chance that the Coyotes could have been at home in the quarterfinals and obviously this is a different team at home. The Jacks are in that exact position today at home with a very winnable game at home coming up. Everything next year needs to be about finishing what they started. That didn't happen this year and that is exactly what next year's focus needs to be. I will have plenty more about that to come and I will have very specific suggestions that I feel like this teams needs to take to be better next year. I have been thinking about those things for a couple of weeks but wanted to wait until the season was over to post them.

So you keep saying we get worse the last 4 games of the season every year. Do you not look at who we are playing? Last 3 games UNI, NDSU, SDSU. Does it suck losing to them? Yep it sure does. I’m as sick of it as anyone. Now what was your prediction for this seasons record? I can’t remember, but I think you picked us worse than 7-4. So tell me this. If you picked us worse than that, who did you have us losing to? The way our schedule has been set up at least the last few years we always play those teams at the end of the season. Those are the best teams in the conference every year. So what if our schedule was mixed up a little better than that, and we didn’t play those teams all together at the end? Your telling me that you wouldn’t have been happy with a 7-4 record this year. You didn’t originally pick us to win that many games. Next year those games are finally mixed in the schedule a little bit instead of clumped together at the end again. Also, we have Illinois state out and Missouri State in next year. That makes a huge difference as well. Then throw in all the injuries we had, especially on defense. That makes a huge difference. Then losing 3 more before our second playoff game and still almost come back and upset the #1 offense in FCS.
