As a Jacks fan I don't know after a 20 point beating that I would be claiming to be the better team. What I would be asking is for both teams having a chance to host a game before we jump to conclusions. For one night the Coyotes were better and it remains to be seen if that will translate into future match-ups. As a Coyote Fan I would rather have the problem we are dealing with in reality than trying to explain why the Jacks walked out of the SCSC with a win. Both teams have been impressive in the non conference and are faily evenly matched overall.
The Coyotes as a clearly weaker team than the Jacks have won at home against them in recent years and it was not a surprise other than the domination. Not since the D1 move has that translated into a victory away from Vermillion. Last year the Coyotes almost pulled it off in Brookings but I think that was just prior to the Jacks really improving their team. Obviously the Coyotes probably should have won in the tourney semi-finals but a loss is a loss and moral victories are no longer allowed at USD. What the first round did show us is that the Coyotes probably have a better chance to win in Sioux Falls than they did previously just because we didn't know how the teams would matchup.
For Coyote fans be happy but stay humble and do consider that things will either be a little bit or a lot different when the teams play again. That actually goes for the fans and the players.
For Jacks fans don't come in here and insist that the Jacks are a better team after they got their asses handed to them by the Coyotes. The Jacks may turn out to be better and they may not but the evidence does not clearly point to that at this time. You will get your rematch but as a Yote fan I am not going to be heart broken if things don't work out in Brookings. I care about round 3 if there is one.

Seems like everyone on here is giving the bunnies more credit than they deserve. Yes, I believe they will be more prepared next time we play them, but so will the Yotes. Smith had our guys prepared to play. There is no reason to suspect Otz didn't have the bunnies prepared to play. Otz knew what they were getting into coming to Verm. Smith just had a better game plan and our guys executed. I sincerely think the Yotes have not given us their best yet. There were many things last night the Yotes could have done better... how many EASY layups and dunks did we miss last night? I have full faith that Smith and his assts will have our guys ready to play them again next time. Our men are for real... don't give the bunnies credit for not playing up to their potential because we didn't play up to ours either. I don't think we'll whip their ass again like we did last night, but I predict we still beat them by 6 or more at that dump Frost. ...and I fully agree it was refreshing to watch the B1G refs not let Daum get away with all the BS like the usual SL refs we use - another reason why he looks so good in SL play and looks average at best playing against P5 or other big time programs. I am not on the Daum bandwagon... I even thought he looked smaller than last year. Are the strength and conditioning people at the ag school doing anything to earn their pay checks...? first cramping and now this... Actually Daum has had some monster games against P5 foes. But, you are a USD fan, which normally coincides with not being very well informed. We play poorly in Vermillion. Always have. I know of very few SDSU fans worried about last night. We didn't play well, did not seem to be up for the game. It was USD's Superbowl (see Smith after the game). See you in Brookings. Sorry, just not worried. Is it the Super Bowl because the game has higher interest and we post a good record? Because that logic makes USD's trip to Brookings the Super Duper Bowl for your fans. The reigning conference champions just beat the hell out of your team and you gotta find a way to cope. Whatever lets you sleep at night.

Sorry, just not worried. Not buying it. That's why you are here. That's why there is page after page after page of posts on the Bunny Board about how you are still the best team, that the number 2 team just got lucky, Super Bowl, and how the best team didn't win. It's called denial, and you are all trying to comfort and convince yourselves after getting shellacked last night. I'll give you a reading of his posts in the following scenarios: Alternate reality where sdsu wins last night: "Just another chapter in our storybook legacy. Little brother has no business being at the table, I can't believe we even let them join the conference." (The game matters until it doesn't) Following USD's win in Brookings next month: "Not worried, little brother won their Super Bowl again. Only ones that matter are in March. We're still the better team." (Can not accept USD's status as best team in conference) Following USD's championship in Sioux Falls: "Tournament berths don't mean anything since we have more. You'd know this if you were an intelligent fan like the ones in Brookings. Just look at our women's basketball team. You will never comprehend what basketball success is." (Insecurity on full display) OR, if it turns out USD's teams post a 6-0 record against sdsu this year: "BUTT FOOTBALL!" (Please let me have something. Ice cream is my only fall back left!) This poster has a complex. Professors should just use this guy as an easy example in Psych 101.

I agree with a lot of what everyone has been saying. Except two things.one I’ve been reading on the jacks boards that apparently it is un classy for a coach to clebrate a win over a rival, maybe they just need to stop worrying about their cows or crops to enjoy a win but hey their loss right? Lol second they need to really quit living in the past, congrats they historically have done better, but guess what everyone it’s a new season stop tearing down your team. You want to know why students don’t come out and support the teams more? because you all sit on these pages and blast the teams even when they win and then don’t show up for the rest of the games. You want to be good alumni, show up to the games for once. Some of you have court side seats congrats! But even then, as a student I’ve seen those seats sit empty. So guess what this started off as a post in reaponse to a great coyote win in a great atmosphere, but now it’s turned into a lecture. Why? Because as much as you all like to blame the students for not turning out to a game it’s ultimately on all of you alumni who sit on these boards and would rather watch a game via ESPN 3 than. spend a few dollars to actually go. If there is anyone to blame for the way USD athletics have performed on a larger scale it is everyone! You want students to continually participate in athletics? Then guess what I better see all of you alumni sell out that 6500 seat arena every game. Like I said I’m extremely proud of the way our men’s and women’s teams now played! But you all need a healthy dose of r laity. SDSU has historically played better at home because th y support their t an. So do everyone a tavor USD fans, support your teams and stop being a bunch of whiny little kids. Anyone want to take the drunk-post-bar-posting-at-2:49AM?

The old one eye open squint and type...been there...Probably some decent points on the support piece. It really bugs me that we can't get more butts in the seats for non SDSU conference games. This team plays a style that is incredibly fun to watch. The students come for the SDSU game and that is pretty much it. To be honest, even the ones that do come are usually pretty fuddy duddy...However, I will say our student sections at the SL tourney have been really really nice and dare I even say it...loud. Need that all year.

Not the first time Smith has gone up with the students, doubt it will be the last. So perhaps playing Denver or Western Ill and celebrating with the students after means those were our "super bowls" too. Give me a break.
Really like the way Peterson has been playing the last couple games, and Simpson as well. Hurst's defense can really help us and he does a lot of other things really well, but down the stretch, it's tough to have guys on the court that don't look to score. I think we're going to need another one or two of those guys late in games that want the ball other than Matt, and I think Peterson is one of those guys.
Leo's, Carey's or The Pressbox (RIP) likely would have elicited a post like that from me as well.

Armstrong has improved his inside game to go along with his 3pt ability. As they say, future is bright!

Does anyone remember the Coyote Bar (I believe that was it's name)? To my recollection it was a wooden structure on Main Street; probably opened in 1862 and closed in the early seventies. The place looked like it could have been in one of those westerns you saw on TV. It was always the last stop on a bar-hopping night. My memory of the place is a little foggy because, well, like I stated, it was the last stop.
