Not the first time Smith has gone up with the students, doubt it will be the last. So perhaps playing Denver or Western Ill and celebrating with the students after means those were our "super bowls" too. Give me a break. Really like the way Peterson has been playing the last couple games, and Simpson as well. Hurst's defense can really help us and he does a lot of other things really well, but down the stretch, it's tough to have guys on the court that don't look to score. I think we're going to need another one or two of those guys late in games that want the ball other than Matt, and I think Peterson is one of those guys. Leo's, Carey's or The Pressbox (RIP) likely would have elicited a post like that from me as well. Pressbox Players Malone's Billboard Pro's Chalky's & The Original Bunyan's Let's all raise a glass in honor of the fallen this weekend. Dilly Dilly! I'm surprised you remember Player's. It was there for such a snapshot in time. It was not always busy, but served as my group of friends' home base, and starting point, since we knew the owner. Our band played in there a lot, too. Good times.

Well, we started out as the Funky Blues B@stards, but after a year of playing places where they would censor the name, or just abbreviate it, we changed it to Groove Juice. After, I think, a year of that we had a copyright issue with a cymbal lubricant company of the same name. Then we became "Shooter McGavin and the Latex Deputies " or just The Latex Deputies ". I had left the band by then, but they played under that name for several years, I think.

As a non-trad (4.5 years in the Air Force after high school), I preferred the quieter scenes... Careys, Leos, Main St Pub...

The Pub was one of my favorites too. You could sit in a booth, socialize, eat, and actually hear each other.

I am going to really show my age, but some 3.2 bars from the 70's: Elmers (across the street from Carey's) White Rabbit (next door to Leos) Godseye - (on Cherry Street - east of campus)

Groove Juice was legit. Chris Miller is the guy I remember specifically, but there were several serious musicians in that group that could bring it. Very popular band during my fall of 97 to spring of 04 tenure in Vermillion.

Miller was my roommate, and one of the most genuine guys I know. And full disclosure, I wasn't a huge part of the band. I play trumpet, and was easily replaced when I left. My biggest contribution to the band was probably getting my guys more deeply into 70's funk and soul. Miller and Blotsky (Tenor sax) wore out my CD collection.

I think that was the name. Old guys rule! Oh, yeah...forgot to add Taco Town. The building is still there. A frame on Hwy 50? That was what morphed into God's eye if I'm not mistaken.

You are correct on Taco Town changing to Gods Eye. Had forgot that until you mentioned it. Nothing like the 3.2 days

I just want to tell everyone here that they are old. Players? Malones? Taco Town? An old west saloon?
I do wish Pros was still around though. 50 cent beer night was awesome.

I don't think there is anything wrong with going and celebrating with the fans as long as it is done after they shake the other teams hands. There might be a little delay after you win the Summit League tournament since you just qualified for the big dance but that is it. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind if the losing team just went back to their locker room after the game. They already lost and I don't think they should just have to stand there and watch the other team celebrate. The hand shake is part of the game, the celebration is after the game. I'm not saying this happened in this game but it is just my opinion. I think it is good for the coach to reach out to the fans. That is how you get more fans involved and that is good for the game. As far as the game goes, USD wanted it more and showed up ready to play. SDSU just didn't have the same energy. You would think that they would but they didn't. SDSU also had problems shooting all game. Some of it was USD's defense but some of it was just a crappy shooting night. You can't say that the defense made SDSU miss half of their free throws. Some of their other shots were open and they just missed them. If you are a shooting team and you aren't making shots, it will be a long night. SDSU looked the same way against Missouri State in the Pentagon earlier this season. Nagy's teams played better defense so they could still hang in there on off nights but TJ is coaching this team not Nagy. I just hope they don't have too many more off night.

To be clear, Smith went in with the students long after hand shakes with the Jacks' players and coaches. After every game the team first shakes the hands of the opposing players and coaches, then they go around the court and shake hands with all of the fans sitting/standing along the court. In this case, Coach Smith veered off and went into the student section to thank them for showing up at the game. End of story.

Agreed, but this didn't take place. Coach and player handshakes took place already. Was more referring to whichever poster indicated he celebrated the way he did because it was "our super bowl". But yeah, can all agree doing that before handshakes would be bad form for anyone.
