The two undefeated teams in the Summits battle tomorrow night in Brook town. Should be a very interesting game with the Coyote D and O vs the rabbits. GO YOTES!!!

A rant of another sort this time in favor of the Coyotes. Mick Garry was on KWSN this afternoon previewing this game. I wonder whether or not this guy even watches what goes on on the court. He acts like it is some miracle that the Coyotes Women are where they are. Zimmer is the same way. Why is it any more of a surprise that the Coyotes are in first as it is the Jacks. I mean maybe it is the very slightest of a surprise but these media people act like it is some type of miracle. The Coyotes have been good for 20 years, so bonk on the head South Dakota it is NOT A SURPRISE that the Coyote women's basketball program is good. Did you watch this program win the WNIT. Do you pay attention that the 3 coaches all prior to Dawn all had success. Do you pay attention that Dawn won a national championship in her previous years as a head coach. She is not minced meat Mick and Matt. If you would have paid attention to what Dawn did last year she did in incredible job in a very tough spot with almost everyone gone from the year before. She installed her system, brought up many inexperienced players and did a very commendable job last season. Why with so much more going for her and the team to start this season is it such a shock what this team is doing.
I realize that the team had a mid season slump but come on already. Where is the respect for this program. It's different for the men. They have struggled the last decade quite a bit up until last year. It shows that no matter what a USD program does they will not get a fair shake from the media especially the Argus.

Is there a way to know who is favored tonight? Can you find a line or KenPom-ish prediction for mid-major WBB?

Is there a way to know who is favored tonight? Can you find a line or KenPom-ish prediction for mid-major WBB? Massey has a match-up tool for lots of sports, including Women's Basketball: They have the Jacks with an 80% chance of winning at home. Typical score 74-64. For a neutral site they have them with a 69% chance or winning. score 71-65. www.masseyratings.com/game.php?s=cbw2018

Similar to most games this year, I think our chances will align with our relative 3pt percentage.

It is always tough to win at Frost and the Yotes can win, but I'll give the edge to the Jacks with the home court advantage.

Looking at the stats, it's hard to find an obvious weakness for either team, or disparity. It looks like they have been a better rebounding team, so I looked at USD's conference stats to see if we have improved there...nope. Both USD and SDSU are averaging one less rebound per game in conference play. The Jacks are getting 5 more than opponents, Yotes getting 1 more.
In summary: the stats aren't telling me anything. I think the style of play and matchups will be more telling. Miller has been playing very well, obviously. She just had a career night against Western. I guess I am just hoping that Coach P has come up with a winning strategy to combat State's athleticism and size.

Hard to ignore the Yotes have been on a roll and things are coming together. But the game is in Brookings, and that creeps everyone out. Still, I think the Yotes get a good lead and then hold on for dear life at the end (like the FB team's games).

With all the respect in the world kiyoat but the h**l with the Jacks athleticism. Who is going to be able to handle Duffy, McKeever and Arens. I am going to beat a dead horse one more time but I am tired of the lack of respect the Coyotes get. Everything is always about the Jacks. If they are so damn talented and so damn good than why have they not won a conference title in their last 3 attempts. I do expect the Jacks to win tonight but they also need to win worse than the Coyotes as far as the regular season title goes just as the Yote men needed it worse yesterday. After tonight the Jacks still have to play at Western Illinois and at USD. The Coyotes will be done with their road games against each of the other top 4 in the conference. The schedule favors the Yotes. Playing with and staying within single digits of teams like Notre Dame and Louisville does not necessarily translate into winning the Summit League as SDSU has proven.

I rather think they will. On paper it's just hard to justify it with stats. I think this year's team has so much of the intangibles, that I won't count them out of any contest. Plus they have great coaching and game planning. How many of us predicted a blow-out of Western Illinois? At the same time, it is hard to pick apart the Jacks this year, either. Miller has been great as advertised, and I think we are lucky that Selland is out temporarily. They have size on us, there is no doubt. Acknowledging that they are formidable is not the same thing as disrespecting the Yotes. This should be a physical game. Both teams play tough defense. I give the Yotes a slight edge because they seem to be trending up in a hurry, just like the men's team. Go Yotes!

I quote you and make it clear that I respect you. Your response is that it is hard to take me seriously. Show a little respect. We may have differing opinions, but who does't. As far as my comments that you bolded, they are not a contradiction at all IMO. IMO the Coyotes are disrespected to the point that people act all surprised that they are good but just assume the Jacks will win the league. That doesn't mean that I automatically think the Coyotes will win in Brookings because that is a much taller order than it would be to beat them in a neutral arena or in Vermillion. Last year the Jacks finished 3rd and the Coyotes 4th but do consider the Coyote program had to basically start over with coaching and with the players. If Dawn could have that team in the hunt you would think with many of the players coming back and another year in the system that the Coyotes should be expected to be better this year than last. The Jacks obviously lost Miller but they weren't playing very well with her. They get her back but lost two big pieces in Ober and their shooting guard (can't think of her name right now). Them being picked to win was based on reputation more than anything. The pressure is all on the Jacks tonight.

The only thing that would surprise me in this game would be a blowout. Either way.
