Anyone heard any news on this? Spring ball is just around the corner and nothing has been announced.
I sure hope Ed makes a decision to get get a qualified seasoned DC, that can run the defensive side of things that he will trust.
With the youth of the team and the number of players coming back the need for a stable defensive system is paramount to improving next year.

agreed something needs to be done with this before spring football. USD cannot afford to not have a good D-Coordinator going into this season.

I believe Morrell was making $83,000 as the D coordinator last year. I heard that in a conversation recently, correct me if I am wrong. Is that the amount enough to get a quality coordinator, or is that the issue?

When the Montana Tech interviews started, I looked up his salary on the state's website. I believe his salary was around $48,000. I don't know what else he may have made from camps, etc.

That's what I thought, $48,000, but I was corrected and told it was $83,000.

Not sure if it's unsubstantiated rumor or if there's some substance behind it, but I stopped by Bisonville and read that a a coach from NDSU may be going to USD. If anyone's interested in reading that discussion: www.bisonville.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23150

I am all for the hire if that's the guy. The NDSU defense was the cornerstone of that team because the offense was nonexistent sometimes. I really hope this is the guy.

According to P&D USD beat writer Jeremy Hoeck's twitter, FootballScoop has reported Jake Sprague and Adam Breske will be co-defensive coordinators and NDSU's Jake Dickert has accepted the defensive backs job.
This is kind of interesting with co-defensive coordinators. Don't know how that will work out.

I am not seeing anyone on the current defensive staff that makes me think that the Coyote defense is going to do anything but regress next fall. Is there really anyone that has a resume very impressive to deserve to be running a defense. Now it's going to be a 2 headed monster which will probably be more confusing and disorganized than ever.
USD is now going into year 4 of transition and still really doesn't have any D1 caliber coaches making the important decisions on the team. This newfound development is really no different than USD just simply not filling the position of defensive coordinator. I don't know if this was a decision based on not having the budget to hire a real DC or what it was. Please Mr. Sayler you have done so much good with USD since you have been here. I hope you realise in short time that this grease fire is spreading faster than we can put an end to it. I so badly want to have reason to be optimistic but just can't find any concrete reason to believe things will get better this season.
Denial can be very powerfull and there is plenty of it going on with the football program at USD currently.

Jake was good, but they apparently passed over him for the D-backs coach as the rumor on the street is the UNI DB coach is the front runner

This is not very impressive to say the least. The collective experience our coaching staff has is troubling. I don't see many people on staff that would disagree or challenge anything Ed says. Very disappointing.

This way he can go down with the ship with both hands firmly implanted on the wheel. Unfortunately, the way the Yotes defense has played at times leave way too much to be desired. I don't see how promoting from within makes the defense any better.

With the state budget the way it is and the U facing cuts that will result in far greater hardships than an adequate Cover 2 I don't think we'll be able to afford the kind of coaches that will make you folks happy. They're trying to do the best they can with the resources they have available. So we can either rally around our team and support them or we can choose not to.
