We can never have too many health running backs; however a quick Google search shows that he struggled with staying out of trouble at FAU. I'm sure coach Nielson has vetted him enough, and I am all for second chances.
As far as talent goes, he is a former 3 star recruit who averaged just under 6 yards a carry as a freshman. Hopefully he can regain that form here!

USD offered him while at the juco, but he went to Marshall instead. Appears to have not played last year. Curious as to whether is will be immediately eligible and how many years he has remaining.

No inside information, but dropping from FBS (Marshall) to FCS (USD) allows immediate eligibility. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like one year of eligibility left (1 year FAU, 1 year Juco and 1 year Marshall).

5 years to play 4. So if he didn't play last year at Marshall then I think he could take that as his redshirt year.

Comes from the same high school as Randy Baker for whatever that's worth. Hope he's matured because it looks like he's blessed with a load of talent.

His FAU and Marshall stats together here: 247sports.com/player/trey-rodriguez-20584/Marshall had named Rodriguez as the starter but then demoted him after two games. He then left school the week after. wvmetronews.com/2017/09/22/rb-trey-rodriguez-leaves-marshall-week-after-losing-starting-job/If I'm putting it all together correctly then he will be a sixth-year senior for his one season at USD: FAU had him listed as a greyshirt (medical?) in 2014 and then a true freshman in 2015. JUCO in 2016 as a sophomore. Marshall in 2017 junior. Redshirt in 2018 wherever he might have been, haven't been able to find that info. Senior in 2019 at USD. One article I found states that he held an offer from us when he committed to Marshall. I'm wondering if Rodriguez was putting his name out there or if Bob chased him down.

I'm really rooting for this kid. Sounds like a good guy and somebody we want representing this school and program. He's wearing a great number too.
