I believe the staff is VERY high on Lopez and his talents.

It will be interesting to follow Camp. Having him enrolling for the spring will be huge for his development and maybe just maybe we see him on the field sooner rather than later.

It will certainly be interesting to see how he compares to Ekern. Overall, it's pretty cool to see how Nielson has leveraged his Illinois connections to pull in quarterbacks.

The one spot of concern I do have is the DL. We lose a lot of snaps there and will be a big unknown in what I would consider to be one of our weakest groups overall this year. We only bring in a couple of DL in which is a tough position to make an immediate impact anyway. I think Burson, Holden, and Headlee will be guys we rely on heavily, but I do not see Nathan Schultz on the roster which is a huge bummer as he was a stud his freshmen year. Maybe I missed his departure in a different thread also. Anyways, a lot of unknowns there.

I believe Whitcomb is going to seek a medical hardship year, so we could have him back on the DL next year as well.

I really hope Ekern or Camp start next season. It might be bumpy at first, but I think we need to think long term with a 4 year starter.

With the new early signing day, most of the left over players are either high profile recruits or guys who are holding out for a big time offer. I'm sure our staff will sit down, evaluate the roster, and circle back to unsigned (D-Line) prospects. We will be better able to focus our efforts on convincing some of those holdout to make us their backup plan which is just reality for FCS programs. Iowa and Iowa State can't offer every player who dreams of playing for them.

Spring game will be especially interesting to watch with an anticipated 5 QB's looking for the job. Tsagalis (SR), Moore (JR), Parks (JR), Ekern (RSFR) and Camp (FR).

I understand easmus' point, but I have the opposite opinion. We need wins now, and an upperclassman QB gives us the best chance at that. With today's CFB landscape, having two system-knowledgeable upper class QBS should not be taken for granted. Tsagalis has been patiently waiting for his chance behind two great players, but Moore might be too dynamic to keep of the field if he has retained the athleticism that made him a high profile recruit.

Agreed, and giving the reigns to a freshman QB kills recruiting for that position for the next several years. What talented and competitive QB wants to sign on with a program where he will guaranteed be sitting for 3+ years? The best scenario is to have the QB position turn over every two years. Keeps an experienced upperclassman at the helm, gives underclassman 3 years to learn and develop, and keeps recruiting fresh as the roster cycles over.

Play the QB who gives the team the best chance to win no matter what class they are in.
