I understand easmus' point, but I have the opposite opinion. We need wins now, and an upperclassman QB gives us the best chance at that. With today's CFB landscape, having two system-knowledgeable upper class QBS should not be taken for granted. Tsagalis has been patiently waiting for his chance behind two great players, but Moore might be too dynamic to keep of the field if he has retained the athleticism that made him a high profile recruit. Agreed, and giving the reigns to a freshman QB kills recruiting for that position for the next several years. What talented and competitive QB wants to sign on with a program where he will guaranteed be sitting for 3+ years? The best scenario is to have the QB position turn over every two years. Keeps an experienced upperclassman at the helm, gives underclassman 3 years to learn and develop, and keeps recruiting fresh as the roster cycles over. SDSU started a redshirt freshman and when he got hurt started a true freshman - top 16 team in the country UNI started a redshirt freshman - top 8 team in the country NDSU starts a redshirt freshman - Jerry Rice award winner for top freshman in the country. I would prefer to play the best at the QB position rather than give the starting job to a player that has “waited his turn.”

I don't think we're advocating naming a starting QB based on who put their time in. My thought is you play the best but ideally you have the recruiting and roster turnover set up so that you are turning over your starting QB every two years with a player who has been in the system for 2-3 already. That's best case scenario.
If you're bringing in a freshman QB who is better than your JRs and SRs that means you probably missed on those upperclassmen, didn't develop them properly, or are in a feast famine cycle of recruiting of bringing in a stud QB every 3-4 years with not much talent in the other years. I'm advocating consistently recruiting the position at a high level year over year and turning the machine over cycle after cycle.

I should have been more clear. I just don't want to automatically assume that it's best for the program in the long-term to start a freshman. Often their most important developmental reps are mental ones from the sideline. I also don't think we brought in Moore for depth. He will have every opportunity to play.

Might’ve stumbled onto something for a new thread. 2020 QB? Don't we already have a 'Seager over Streveler' thread we can just bump? And maybe even a 'Simmons over Streveler' one?

Play the best players in each position, period. It shouldn't matter what age they are or if they're on scholarship, or not. If kids are progressing, pushing to get better and are producing on a daily basis, then the playing time will take care of itself. Do not take anything for granted. Make each rep count. At the same time... the cream of the crop always rises to the top (including character and attitude), and those are the kids that should be on the field representing the Yotes. Every position matters, Every play matters, every player matters and they need to "buy in" to their role and do their job on a consistent basis within the scheme of the team. Every phase matters... yes, even the special teams... especially the special teams (game changer). If discipline and apathy come into play, then the guys need to be held accountable toward representing this team the right way. Be a class act and kick a$$. No need to show boat. At this level, coaches (and fans) expect players to do their job on every play. Kick your opponents a$$, help them up and then kick their a$$ again. Go Yotes!

Iowa is stocked at TE with 5 returning TEs, 2 TEs already signed NLI and just received a commit from a PWO out of Illinois, so that position group is pretty crowded. He's a bit undersized to play TE at Iowa considering Kittle, Hockenson, and Fant were all over 6-4 as is every TE on the current roster, graduating TEs, and incoming TE recruits. At 6 ft 3 in 220 lbs it would not surprise me if Iowa would look to convert him to a guard if he took a PWO there. Kid's got a good frame and can obviously move. Put about 90 lbs of muscle on him over the next couple of years and might have the makings of a good guard. Defensive tackle might be another possibility as well given his size and frame. TE is just going to be tough to crack at the P5 level if you're under 6-4. Every TE on both Iowa's and KSU's roster is 6-4 or taller. They like big targets at that position.
If he's got his heart set on playing TE then USD would be his best opportunity to get on the field and I'm sure we'd love to have him. Classic case of a highly talented player who is just a tad undersized for P5 that would excel and be a standout at the FCS.
