Okay yotes, impressive all around first half. Pass coverage stills bit inconsistent, but all other facets of the game show nice improvement.

That was just what the doctor ordered. Nice solid win. Carry that momentum into conference play.

I’ve said from the shaky start you really couldn’t get a grasp on where we were heading until the first 4 games played out. Yesterday against Indiana State we played good football. The good news is we can still get a lot better. The great news is we’ve won 2 in a row, one of those on the road. We play Missouri State and UNI. So let’s see how we stacked up against Indiana States first four opponents. Until yesterday, they were giving up 305 total yards a game. We got 522. That’s 71% more than average.
Indiana State had been averaging 371 total yards per game. Yesterday they had 274. That’s 26% less than their average. People, those are great stats.
OPPONENTS NUMBERS
Team Rushing yards. Passing yards Total yards
Kansas. 103. 241. 344 Dayton. 176. 251. 427 Eastern Kentucky. 148. 100. 248 Eastern Illinois. 121. 79. 200 1st 4 games avg. 137. 168. 305
USD. 312. 210. 522
INDIANA STATE NUMBERS VS OPPONENTS
Kansas. 146. 219. 365 Dayton. 176. 251. 427 Eastern Kentucky. 215. 133. 348 Eastern Illinois. 148. 195. 343 1st 4 games avg. 171. 200. 371
Against USD. 40. 234. 274
Then in reviewing our first 5 games, in the first three ( our losses ), we gave up on average 613 yards per game. 159 rushing/454 passing. In the last two games, we have given up on average 248 yards per game. 39 rushing/210 passing.
In the first 3 games, USD rushed on average for 94 yards per game and threw for 351 or a total of 445. In the last 2 games, we have rushed for 258 yards per game and threw for 248 yards per game. Balanced attack.
The naysayers will say quality of opponent was less and I agree, but still the difference is staggering. The trend is going up. Confidence is going up. It’s wayyyyy to early to be giddy, but hopefully by now the ones that were really down have taken their heads out of the gas oven. Maybe, just maybe, our defense is starting to get IT. And maybe just maybe our offensive line is getting better and working together much better.
The schedule is kind to us. Missouri State is winnable but we should not be over confident in one game this year. We can beat anybody, we can lose to anybody. The trends say the Coyotes have woken up from their nap. Now we find out.

Lot of work went into putting that info together and it contained some really interesting stats. Thanks for doing that. I certainly hope this upward trend continues because, as you said, the 'Yotes really did look good yesterday in all phases. This OGAAT mantra definitely needs to be the byline for the rest of the season. On a side note: it was nice to see Lincoln Gibbs get some carries yesterday. Kid has some explosiveness.

Got it. Didn’t know that. I sit above team and he was 100% into the success of the team. I just like the kid personally.
On another note Simmons was MVFC offensive player of the week.

A few quick comments from the game. First, Kam Cline was a beast, I hope we see more of that the rest of the year. Greenfield was also terrific, with those two playing well the front line looks solid. I also thought Cochrane, Mogensen, Matthew, Hillis, and Starling were exceptionally strong at the LB positions. The DBs played well but were not challenged much. Overall a very nice Defensive performance, I hope to see us repeat that level of play next week. Offensively, what more can I say other than establish the run game and the rest seems to come together. Kai Henry had a very nice game and it was a pleasure to see Simmons take advantage of opportunities and become a runner. My only concern with the offense and so far this year is the only average play of Dakarai Allen, I was expecting a lot more from him, hopefully, he becomes more of a force as the season goes along. The offensive line seems to be getting better each week which is very encouraging. We need to have another dominating performance next week against Missouri St to establish that we could still be a playoff team.

Does appear that Wallace has replaced Bianchi at LG. Not sure if that’s changed OL overall play.

The only thing that I feel was still a little shaky was special teams, specifically kick coverage.
