Kids from SD (and localized out of state kids, close to home) do matter. They create a sense of community. SDSU has a community, USD does not. When local kids are on the roster and play periodically, they don’t have to all play all the time, but play some, people come watch them and there are people in the stands. Kids from all over are great, they are young men who are great, but a kid from Florida brings in Mom and Dad for a couple of games. There are a few parents that get her as much as they can, but that’s it, the extension is not there. Local kids bring in Mom and Dad, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, moms friends, dads friends, sisters friends, girlfriends parents and their friends and relatives. There is a network of community that develops. SDSU has perfected this community network, they get it...we do not. After a community is developed, the community will last through winning and not so winning seasons. Does the kid have to be from SD, or do you believe community would be instilled if they are from nearby towns in IA, NE, or MN? The talent that's winning titles is mostly coming from Minnesota.

After a community is developed, the community will last through winning and not so winning seasons. I'd rather cross the border into MN, IA, and NE to get the talent you need to win games. Honestly I don't care if they go across the country or over seas to get the guys they need to win. Just win. We don't need some sense of local community or anything. Winning cures all. The fact is, the yotes haven't been a serious conference contender since we jumped into the Valley. That's why we don't have the support from fans in state. We are considered second tier football in South Dakota. Start making the playoffs and beating the XDSUs with some regularity and we'll be back in the conversation for local fan support. Then, and only then, will USD be an attractive place for in state kids to walk on.

Someday soon I am going to do a chart of where the roster comes from. I would bet a large bulk of the roster is from the local region, within a 4-5 hour drive.
People should realize that Omaha, Des Moines, Kansas City, Minneapolis, heck even Madison, WI (6 hour drive) are closer than Rapid City which is 6 hours away. Yet if we got a recruit out of Rapid, in-state, people here would be calling him "local".

It's safe to assume when you see IA, NE, or MN represented that they aren't coming from eastern Iowa, western Nebraska, or northern Minnesota. Everyone does some reaching outside of this region, and USD is doing it more and going farther than everyone else. I agree though that these kids from Rock Valley or Sheldon or wherever are absolutely local players. We are closer to them than any other D1 schools.

Don't get too bent out of shape on this transfer. From what I have heard, there is a bunch of behind the scenes stuff that led to this. Missed workouts, missed meetings, etc... Nice player. All in or not???

I saw our conference champion winning volleyball program announced their 2020 recruiting class. Gee, not a single recruit from South Dakota.

I saw our conference champion winning volleyball program announced their 2020 recruiting class. Gee, not a single recruit from South Dakota. No kidding. Ask the Arens family from Crofton if they feel like out-of state foreigners in Vermillion. Or Madison Harms from Sergeant Bluffs. Or Hegedorn's parents that have to drive a whole hour and 20 minutes from Norfolk, NE to see games. Those are all local kids by most sane standards IMO. The new assistant AD said in a recent interview that in efforts to increase fan attendance, they are looking at two groups: residents within a 60-mile radius, and alumni. I think that 60-mile radius could reasonably be considered "locals", where you are more likely for a recruit to increase the fan base with his/her family, friends and neighbors. That includes Sioux Falls, Yankton, Sioux City, Norfolk and most of NW Iowa Dutch country. A 400 or 500-mile radius is probably a good standard for a "regional" home recruiting ground. That would include the Metros of Rapid City, Fargo, SF, MSP, DSM, Sioux City, Omaha/CB, KC, and most of the states of ND, SD, NE, IA and MN. parts of Kansas and Wisconsin. And in FB and MBB you absolutely have to go farther out if you want to compete at a D1 level IMHO.

Another player leaving mid-season... Heard Jack Perry 4th year player out of Ogorman in Sioux Falls, SD left the team also. It was his decision to leave and I imagine he was struggling with his lack of opportunity to play. I wish him the best. I’m sure after all his time committed to the team it had to be a hard decision.

You miss the f***ing point! Lol. Yeah let's sign a bunch of SD kids and see how that goes. We got throttled today fielding the most talented team we could, but sure let's focus on bringing in less talented kids just because their from SD. We got a regular Bear Bryant over here.....

You miss the f***ing point! I had to look it up. There's two. So he is correct that it doesn't matter where athletes are from. Pretty sure you two are on the same page here.
