Not all play in games are 16 v 16. As an example, this year Drake plays Wichita State I think as 11 seeds True. Which seems very random and nonsensical. Either way, the play-in games provide a cheap way to get a tournament win, which can end up increasing their conference's payout significantly. It worked for the Summit when the Bison won one. 👍

And made the NCAA lots of money.....so of course they had to mess with it.

I don't agree with it either, but at the same time at least one of those teams in the 11 v 11 game made it to the final four (VCU in 2011). They beat USC in the play-in game, when normally I would guess the committee would have just put USC in the field and left VCU out. Now excuse me while I contemplate how it's even possible that this happened 10 years ago.

And made the NCAA lots of money.....so of course they had to mess with it. The interesting (infuriating) part of it is the 'why'. When the Mountain West became eligible for an auto bid, rather than have one less at-large bid, they moved it to a field of 65, where the 2 lowest teams (#64 & #65) had a play-in game. Remember that? NCAA took a ton of heat for picking on the little guy. So, rather than simply having one less at-large, they added 3 more at-large teams to get to 68. At the time, the NCAA said it would be a way to get more mid-majors in the tourney, which was - of course - a giant lie. But if they took away that 1 extra bid to get to 64, it would have been taken away from a P5 school, and they weren't going for that...

ORU is winning at halftime 36-33! I doubt they win in the end, but who knows? They are giving everyone their money's worth of entertainment.

ORU has certainly had the looks from the 3 to take this game, but missed them all and are down 2 with a minute left. Lots of ill advised drives to the hoop by Abmas that have been summarily rejected. I feel like he isn't used to playing this type of athleticism and didn't get a non conference season to really get exposed to it this year.

Looks like ORU got a #15 seed, and will be playing Ohio State on Friday afternoon @ 2:00PM CST. I almost wish they had gotten the 16 seed like NDSU did two years ago. Those 16v16 play-in games still count as a win to increase the tournament payout to conferences. A post that aged poorly I knew ORU could win if they played their best like they did in the conference tourney...but they did not do that today. Absolutely wild that they took this one and in the fashion that they did.

Yes, I believe that 15 seeds are about 9-132 in the tourney now. On to Florida! I know ORU can win that one too.
