And this is the reason USD didn’t want Friedel.

Scum bag. When they go low, we go high. I’m eating a little crow from my comments last night. Progress.

Even the most optimistic fan could not have predicted the kind of dismantling that the Coyotes gave the Jacks tonight. So we need to build on this and not step backwards. I couldn't believe the energy and togetherness that the team played with tonight. At the end of the game it was good to see the team recognize the kind of game that Umude has. It is gonna be awfully difficult to wipe away the smile that will be on his face on the way home and on the face of the rest of the guys as well.
SDSU 2-1 NDSU 2-1 UND 1-2 USD 1-2
Who knows how things will play out from here but based on the play in this tournament only these 4 teams look awfully evenly matched. All 4 teams played really well and really badly at times but if I had to say I think the Bison may have looked like the worst team in the field. They were extremely lucky to get out of this thing at 2-1. If they don't come back from deficits against UND and USD they would have been 0-3.
As far as the Coyotes go Lee needs to make sure this team runs through Stanley and AJ and let things go from there.

Well I guess that was a stop presses "Dewey wins" kind of moment! Stan was certainly the MAN!! Was fun to watch and see the Yotes play with great focus and intensity! Need to work on more focused D with out fouling and more consistently challenging the 3. They just have to keep building the chemistry!! Need to play every game like it is a rivalry game!
Go Yotes!!!

Umude set the program mark for most points in a game at D1. Just the 11th time ever a Yote has put up 40 points.

And this is the reason USD didn’t want Friedel. Come on man. Yeah that was low and immature. But not getting Freidel had nothing to do with this. I would still take him in a heartbeat. In two years when he is a senior he will easily be the best player in the conference (he does neee to grow up). It was a huge win but it took a Herculean effort out of Stan and sdsu was without their I’d say their best overall player in Wilson. I’m not terribly optimistic with this staff right now. Last year you could argue there wasn’t another staff in the country that did less with more. I really hope this game catapults us but I’ll choose to walk before we run.

What is the story with Wilson? Is he still injured? Keep hearing about how great he is but seems like he's never been available for state.
I'm torn on Freidel. The guys a phenomenal player but his attitude bothered me last year. At least on TV it seems like he throws a tantrum if things aren't going his way, lashing out at officials, teammates, etc. But that stunt last night was completely unacceptable.

Admittedly I did not watch a lot of State games last year but the ones I did I never saw him lashing out at teammates or refs. Did he get a lot of technical fouls last year or what?

Not sure on technicals. I would guess not. I watched a lot of their games last year and if he was having on off night it just seemed like he was throwing a tantrum. Bitching to refs, slamming stuff when he sat down. Stuff like that. Not necessarily a terrible thing I guess, just not a fan of his attitude. At least the way it looks watching on TV anyway.

It doesn’t have anything to do with it? I watched him his senior year yell in the opposing coaches face during a game and get T’d up. At the State Tournament his senior year, he did the same thing to a kid that he did to Stan last night, but I suppose it’s ok because he didn’t get caught right? Last year at SDSU, he had to sit the first two games for disciplinary reasons.

He actually should have a two game suspension then maybe he'd wake up? No excuse for this kind of garbage!!

Coaches have a better chance than anyone to change or help a kid actually grow up. I would still take him this second right now. I’ll take my chances that he grows up. Honestly nothing wrong with being firey, there is a lot wrong with hitting a guy in the nuts though. We are going to have to take some chances on guys. If we are solely worried about character then we must not fully trust our culture 100%. It’s not like he’s in legal battles and a detriment to the campus. He just needs to learn a few things in life. I’m ready to win a championship- I’m tired of first round and second round exits less than an hour from our campus.

This conversation seem to be spiraling down the "All that matters is winning" crowd vs. the "Win, but only the 'right' way". We have had that debate on here before (someone can probably find it) and it seems to come down to the pro sports vs. college sports mentality, with college sports being steered more and more towards the pro mantra of win-at-all-costs (insert your favorite scandal here). I'm firmly in the "win, but only the 'right' way" camp for reasons that are only making sense to me as I get older. There are reasons Friedel wasn't offered a scholarship at USD, but we won't know what they are, which is OK. He has always been talented, but a lot of coaches passed on him, not just USD, and it wasn't because he couldn't play. I don't know stevenyote's connection - if any - to Friedel, but I don't think even average SDSU fans think he will be the best player in the conference in two years (it isn't obvious to me he is the best underclassman in the SL). SDSU is a program whose perception is built on Wolters and Daum types of personalities, and that resonates with their fans. I'm guessing their average fan is embarrassed.
