...There are reasons Friedel wasn't offered a scholarship at USD, but we won't know what they are, which is OK... This is a really good point. No sense speculating. The reason he wasn't offered a scholarship was simply because we didn't have one to offer at the time. If we had one at the time, there is a high degree of likelihood that he would be a Yote.

I think the offer may have been to walk on and chance to earn a scholarship because they didn’t have 1 available at the time. Then TJ leaves SDSU for UNLV, Caleb Grill de-commits, and a scholarship opens at State, and he took the $. Can’t blame him for that.

However, if Luka Garza called and said he wanted to play for the Yotes, I'm pretty confident the scholly would have shaken free. In fact, it would be an interesting exercise to see how many players are still around that didn't graduate out - I'm guessing a handful of players who were not thought to be on the same talent level (and since transferred down to D2) were able to keep their scholarship instead of giving it to Friedel. Is that what made him so angry with USD?

At the time TJ left and Grill de-committed wasn’t Noah already signed with Nagy at Wright State? Obviously Grill leaving opened a scholarship but how was Noah able to leave Wright when he’d already signed?

Obviously Grill leaving opened a scholarship but how was Noah able to leave Wright when he’d already signed? Here's what Noah told the Argus in the April 11, 2019 article: LINKLike I said, this was Noah's explanation. Although I somehow doubt he would have played for Dakota Wesleyan, I suppose it's possible. A.J. Plitzuweit spurned D-1 schools in favor of Augie, after all. For reference TJ's move from SDSU to UNLV was announced March 27, 2019 (approximately two weeks before Freidel announced his decommitment). OTOH, Noah's trash-talking about dropping 30/40/50 (who remembers?) on USD his freshman season was also a quote, not speculation. He clearly has a beef for some reason.

Although I'd love to hear what really happened in the recruiting process between USD and Freidel, I'm glad Lee has chosen to not comment on it. It would be pretty low class for a coach to throw a recruit under the bus, regardless of what happened IMHO.
Of course, that doesn't apply to us fans, so any actual knowledge on it (not just speculation) here is just fine...

Would have been fine playing NAIA when you are a D1 player? I call BS on that entire statement. Anybody who has spent any time around kids this age who are aspiring to reach this level of athletics knows when a kid is a D1 player they aren't just going to settle for a lower level, much less a couple of levels down. The move to SDSU was orchestrated but the kid is smart enough not to come out and say it because it's an admission of tampering. But I guess if Nagy and Wright State was fine with it then it doesn't matter. Just don't try to sell me a frozen turd and call it a popsicle. It's been a couple of years now, so who cares?

Nagy wasn't OK with it, but he chose to take the high road.

Not to further de-rail a game thread, but I thought this might be a good place for a link to Gaskins and Zim's new podcast episode entitled "The Crotch Shot Heard Round the State".... anchor.fm/nla

glad to see the interest in midco app but anyone interested in talking about the product on the floor? Only 6 teams makes the summit tourney this year. Hope we can sneak in. Okay hold up, only 6? I missed that memo.... they need a win here fast to gain some confidence and momentum otherwise I don’t think they’ll make top 6. Sorry to bump this thread, but is it true that only 6 teams make the conference tournament this year? Could someone please provide a link to a source for this information? Thanks in advance.

The Summit League website initially said 6 teams make the tournament. It has since been corrected and 8 teams will make the tournament.

I feel I need to clarify the recruiting of Noah Freidel with some accurate information; Neither Noah or his high school team mate Justin Hohn were recruited by USD or SD State, even though they were probably the two best high school basketball players in the State. During the Summer before their Senior year, Noah and Justin were playing in a tournament in Las Vegas. Wright State offered Noah after that tournament. Cal State Irvine, the Anteaters, offered Justin Hohn, based on his play, at the same Tournament.

Noah is a great kid who made an unfortunate mistake. He has owned up to that mistake and his coach has handled everything as he should have since the incident. One mistake should not define who he is. Everyone makes mistakes and hopefully we all learn from them. Unfortunately for Noah, his was during the heat of competition and also on video for the world to see. This is not an excuse for Noah. He knows what he did was unacceptable and he knows he will be held accountable for his actions. He does however deserve a second chance, just as we all do.

How is he held accountable? What penalties? How many games suspended?
Same penalties as Stig? Lol
