Appreciate the genuine insight siouxfan512. That was a pretty accurate recap. You have to be pleased with your team's play so far. Thanks for humbling sdsu. Now please go knock the snot out of the Bison in two weeks.

That was an extremely well coached UND team. Maybe not the most physically gifted team, but very diverse offensively (very hard to defend), attacked all parts of the field, QB didn’t get touched not because of their great OL but because they threw tons of WR and RB screens, play action, and moved their QB with naked and sprint outs. Plus they were gashing us with their boundary run game and we never adjusted at all. If you don’t take away something, you take away nothing. We are not changing the offense!! You are, who you are. Can’t change a tiger’s strips. BUT we could protect our QB and OL with screens and vary the launch point for the QB with some movement throws. And most important, run the ball a variety of ways. Also, make sure your best players are on the field and touch the ball a lot. Vander Esch and Bell are statistically the best WRs (until Case comes back) and are always open, so why are they ever off the field? There were some nice run game adjustments made because of UNDs line stunts but they were too late. This is what is so maddening about the defense. A bubble/smoke screen will get 8 or 10 yards every time so it's always second and 2 or the third down conversion rate is ridiculously high. Reminded me of the Houston Baptist fiasco last season. To me that is the key takeaway from this game and the reason UND won: third down conversion %. The offense isn't giving the O line much of a chance to succeed either. There has been no "read" in the zone read and consequently it's just a handoff that takes too long to develop. Fourth quarter the offense made some adjustments in the run game and got to the point of attack much quicker and it resulted in a nice drive, but by that point it was too late. Also, when it's third and long consistently and the other team is bringing the house it's impossible for five or six to block seven. This was countered by the passes to Henry out of the backfield, but, again, too little to late. Seemed pretty obvious that they saw something and made some adjustments at halftime that we failed to counter because they just torched us in third quarter. First play from scrimmage 40+ yard run. That's not a coincidence. We were outcoached this game, but then again, there wasn't much time to prepare either.

No one knows how this will play out the next 6 weeks, but my guess is UND could be the best team in the league. If so, then we will look back and say the results aren’t what we wanted but the effort was there. We all can complain about our defense but last night we gave up 21 points. Period. If we limit our opponents to 21 points the next 6 weeks on average, I’m gonna say we will win all 6 games, or 5 at minimum.
Yards given up is only one stat. Thee most important number is points allowed. Yes, our O line is struggling but they weren’t as bad as some of you think they were. They are not only young, but super young. There’s a learning curve and we’re in it. We have a freshman QiB, that’s being asked to do a lot. We’ve been on the road twice and now the worst is over.
There isn’t one game remaining we can’t win. Naturally I thought deep down Ndsu might be an L, now we know they’re human. SDSU isn’t as good as they’ve been. Western Illinois isn’t that good. Youngstown is winnable. Mizzou State is Mizzou State and Southern Illinois is better. But we have them at home. I’m not down at all. I even said we might not win this game in earlier posts.
Lastly, not to be disrespectful to any poster, but in my opinion last night wasn’t a case of being out coached. Right now UND is better than we are. If this plays out like I think it can, I guaranty they wouldn’t want to see us in the playoffs. Some teams get better quicker than others. I think that’s us.
In closing someone said this season doesn’t count. Only a warmup for fall. I respectfully disagree. Maybe no non conference games but you can bet your bottom dollar this spring season isn’t meaningless to the players. Let’s get home and start the winning process next Saturday. I like our team.

Great game, not a fan of the short week. The brought up road trips on your end have merit. Your effort was definitely there and you sure are capable of winning the remaining games. siouxfan512 gave you deserved compliments. I do hope to see you again this season = you as well as us therefore beat some of the past upper tier teams. Wish you the best, glad to be back in the I29 crowd.

This comment has nothing to do with last night per se but I wanted to mention how good it is to have UND in the same conference again. I miss the NCC days, what can I say?

what a pathetic performance. This is not the place to comment on NDSU's performance against Southern Illinois.
