Wow! that is a ton of Freshman. I hope they give Bob a chance to see these freshmen through. The disparity in classes would be a disaster if they decided to make a coaching change in the next few years. I guess we will see I mean, he's had plenty of time to move players through the program. If the administration decides to keep Bob around for a few more years, which they very well could, I hope it's not to "see these freshmen through". There are plenty of reasons why we should go in a different direction and plenty of reasons we shouldn't, but the excuse for letting Bob bring in his own guys and develop them has expired at this point. He's had time to do all of that by now.

My point is with limited upperclassman and the majority of your roster are freshman I think it would be harder on the program than one would think if a coaching change was made. Too many players in one class is not ideal. Additionally with the covid year and transfer portals doesn’t necessarily bode well for teams trying to build programs. It seems now that teams are trying to piece together a roster instead of developing a program. Not sure that all lands on the coach. Certainly it has impeded his path to build. I think Bob is a good coach and a change sometimes is good but sometimes sticking with what you got in an experienced coach may trump a change especially in this situation. Just my opinion

Just my opinion O I agree Bob is a good coach. I just have a hard time accepting the excuse that he needs more time for program development. That's a 2 or 3 year excuse at the most.

Looking at the defections from the roster, typically it will happen between redshirt freshman to sophomore year because reality kicks in that the path to getting on the field is too tough or the guy in front of “me” is in my same class. Or some of them were walk-ons and didn’t get offered $$ by that time so they leave for greener pastures. Seriously, the only two players on that list that hurt are Kia Henry and #13 the safety (who had a chance of developing into a decent player). Nothing to be alarmed with, just typical attrition on a college roster. At this level, if there are 10 players that are major contributors in each class that is what you would be looking for in the end.

Kai Henry is still on the transfer portal. To me that’s very sad. Had he stayed, he plays and graduates. If no one signs him, at any level, he doesn’t play and doesn’t graduate.
I wished there was some way that the good Lord could let some of these kids look into a crystal ball into the future so they could assess what a college degree would mean to them.
This is one of the huge drawbacks to transfer portal. One of many

Can't he come back to USD? Stanley Umude entered the portal last year and decided to come back. If Kai didn't burn any bridges and we have scholarship room I think we can ask him back.
I probably just answered my own question.

Transferring has been a big thing since Russell Wilson went to Wisconsin but it seems like only recently people have been referring to a portal. I can't even tell if the portal is a new (or real) thing. Did Streveler go through a portal? Transferring in your last year of eligibility without a degree in hand is a bad idea no matter how you slice it though. Even if a fantastic program picked up Henry he is going to get one year on the team and at least 2 years in the classroom to get that bachelor's degree given that any decent school will require 60 credits at their institution.

Greg Schiano is back at Rutgers and is probably turning things over to get his guys in the program. Stands to reason returning players might see their futures change there and they look elsewhere for opportunities.
Welcome to USD, JLew.

Well this is interesting news. Little QB competition in fall camp. I like it! Our last B1G transfer QB worked out pretty well.....

But apparently the coaching staff was openly recruiting this particular QB, right? I was just surprised by that.
