Well this is interesting news. Little QB competition in fall camp. I like it! Our last B1G transfer QB worked out pretty well..... I'll take the same stance I had with whoever transferred from Iowa State that everyone liked. Can't get excited until they're on the field. Honestly, I'm just happy to see the staff make a bold move in the portal. I made a long post a couple months back when somebody asked me exactly what I'd do to move this program in the right direction if I were in charge. One thing I made clear was we needed to get more talent on the field now by bringing in some veteran guys through the transfer portal. After the spring season, it was clear that we were out-matched by just about everyone in the league at the most basic level - talent. I know the old-timers like to talk about effort and heart and all that good stuff - and, don't get me wrong, those are two very important things - but when you just plain don't have the talent or ability to match up, it's not gonna go well. When the talent isn't on the roster, you have to get it from a different roster - pretty simple.

If the talent isn't on the roster? Whose fault is that?

If the talent isn't on the roster? Whose fault is that? My opinion, it falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. If there's a lack of talent, they either A) didn't bring in the right recruits, B) failed to develop their players properly, or C) did not put them in the position to succeed. Bringing in transfer guys is an effective way to improve your roster quickly. I like the addition of the QB. Whether he wins the job or not, he definitely adds a lot of talent to the roster.

Does anyone know when fall camp starts and if so what the schedule looks like?

Question for the FB experts on here: After reading the AL's position write-ups, it seems like a summary could be "everyone is back, so we expect huge improvement". However, the same thing could be said of all MVFC teams. So, I'm wondering - is it fair to say this season is a rare experiment where everyone will be able to accurately measure a coaching staff's ability to develop players? Since it is the same players, we should be able to see obvious improvements from spring to fall (if a staff is good at developing players) or see other teams/units make a leap (if staff isn't very good at it). Is it that simple?

Is it that simple? Some valid points…I guess I wouldn’t expect them to turn the world on fire with 42 freshman. Not sure if other schools are in similar situations as far as youth on their roster but I do believe that the last few recruiting classes were solid ( specifically the 21 class). I see them being pretty good in a few years but I get this is a “right now” business.

One way of looking at it is that we have the most room paired with potential for improvement from the spring. A winning conference record would be a good season in my opinion.
One thing to think about, however, is that I will never forget how we didn't have a single pre-season all conference player coming into the best season we had with Streveler. The emergence of some dynamic playmakers could make a huge difference.
