Apparently, Zimmer from the Argus just released his picks ahead of the Summit League release. I don't have a subscription, and clearing my computer's cache still doesn't give me access, so maybe someone else can fill in the banks.....

Hard to argue much of that. I am assuming those are Zimmer's picks because if USD isn't heads and shoulders above the Jacks, SDSU will be voted ahead of them. Remember last year SDSU won the league mostly because of having 2 home games against the Coyotes. The Yotes dominated the post season tourney when the Jacks didn't have a crowd advantage or any crowd at all for that matter. I would probably move Oral Roberts up and Omaha down. I think the Mavs have to prove more than just having a 2 game run at the Summit tourney.
I know Selland is good but it is hard for me to imagine any player being more important to their team than Sjerven. She absolutely controls the paint in any Summit game.

I think that picks for the top 3 are probably right for the beginning of the season but the teams after that i think were not going to know how they stand because all of them have had significant changes in personnel since last season. Here at North Dakota on paper this team should be improved with number of transfers and new freshman coming in for this year and there recruiting class for next year already looks to be upgrade in talent. I think some of these teams may be much better than anyone thinks if they gel with their new additions. I believe we will be much better than last year with additions made and getting people healthy this season here at North Dakota. A change from last season is they will have back several guards that should be healthy and they have added brought in couple of transfer to improve there depth at guard and they will also be much taller than they were last year. I think the teams below the top 3 made changes to better compete in the conference and everyone may be surprised that some of these teams may have closed the gap more than anyone has realized. I just think we have seen when one better players like Selland was injured how it changed the level of play for the Jacks and I think we may see how addition of couple of players to team may improve a team in other direction plus any team must stay healthy with its top players because midmajor teams do not have luxury of deep benches to fall back on to replace star players. I will be interested in how correct this prediction is when we get to end of this season.

Ndfan,
Come back and talk more summit women's basketball in the future. Thanks for your insight. We can never talk too much about coyote women's basketball. It will be nice to get back to having more consistent schedules and crowds this year.

Pretty hard to argue with anything in there. I suppose a #NotMyMVP case could be made for Hannah, but that type of award usually goes to someone who has the ball in their hands a lot - especially pre-season when defense isn't easy to consider. I may have put KC #3, and UST #7, but who knows...
The thing that is a huge wildcard to me is the changed 3pt line. Will it open up space underneath so people like Hanna have more room? Or will the shooting be so bad that guarding the 3pt line won't be as big of an issue, so it will be even more clogged up for her (and other back-to-the-hoop posts).

Here's an article from last year talking about how the new 3-point line affected the men's game: LINK1. 3PT % went down slightly 2. 3PT attempts stayed the same 3. an "opening up" of the paint wasn't noticeable.

To my recollection this is only the second time the coyotes have been picked to win the league. The first time I believe they ended up undefeated in the league and won the summit tourney. That is a very tough act to follow. Last time they hosted the Jacks was that same year and I believe they won by 30 or 40.

From the Argus story: It’s the third year in a row USD has been picked to win the league in the preseason poll. The Coyotes have gone to three straight NCAA tournaments and won four of the last seven regular season conference crowns.

Looks like I need to have my memory checked. I thought the Jacks were picked to win it last year but I was wrong. There is obviously a big asterix attached to their perfect Summit finish since they did not have to play in Vermillion. Hopefully the Yotes can back up their pre season pick.

You know the program is in a good spot when the preseason rankings come out and are scratching your head how the voters don't have USD ranked. Though they are generally not kind to mid-majors, and generally just give them token vote at #24 or #25. But still...
