...but it's much more fun to call for the coach's head (eye roll).
I really hope we get a shot at NDSU in the tourney.

Hey now I’m not calling for his head (my comment was more smack at ND for wanting there’s fired). I’m just saying we have the talent to compete but the coaching hasn’t been there to win the games we should be. I’d like to say that’s generally fair criticism, he’s been dealt a lot of bad hands but at some point we are allowed to acknowledge some of his coaching calls. He can’t have a free pass forever.

It would take a road win at this point to change that. The only time the team has looked acceptable in 4 years has been when Lee convinced a predecessor's recruit to stick around to play with a Vermillion recruit that Lee let go to Augustana first (I have to imagine Lee would be gone by now if AJ went to Brookings instead). I have no faith in Lee. He has brought minimal talent to campus. We can wait and see how this turns out, but it has seemed obvious for years that he is way out of his depth as a D1 head coach. This is a very weak conference. It is embarrassing to be sitting below .500 right now. A rare miss by Herbster, but it needs to be corrected.

Convincing a predecessor's recruit to stick around is a bad thing? He wasn't hired until April and all three of the signed recruits bolted before he was hired (Smith poached two of them the other was Greisel at NDSU) so he was completely handcuffed in his first recruiting class creating a big hole. Those recruiting class are seniors at other schools and some will be super seniors next season. He's been dealt a tough hand and has gotten the most out of his talent. No one was expecting anything this season and he has them playing competitive basketball. This is a young and inexperienced team as well. Everyone will be back next season. Add 2/10 of a second to one game and Fuller, who I think is our best player, to the entire league season and you might be singing a different tune. You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, but I totally disagree that he's way out of his league. And yes, I'm pissed about Thursday too.

Yotes is right on. We can sit here all we want and make excuses but this is a mediocre program. It is surprising what good shape the program was in and the facility advantage that exists. Lee has pissed that away and I no longer blame Lee for this because he is what he is. This one is now on herbster and allowing someone else convince him to hire Lee. It may have been on Lee for 3 years but we are beyond that. It would be nice if herbster would just right his wrong this off season but I doubt it will happen. Maybe it is time to extend him for 5 more years because of the great job he has done this year. I outlined already our great record in the Summit tourney and many people believe a coach should be judged on that.

Great shape? I'm trying to remember all the NCAA tourney appearances before Lee came. Read your last line. The last Summit League tourney game under Smith and the first game of whatever invite tourney game against North Texas might have been the two most pathetic efforts I've witnessed by any Coyote team. With that said I know I'm going to be kicking myself for breaking Mark Twain's rule about arguing.

People are so bitter smith left that they can't rationalize the fact that there is no comparison between these 2 coaches. Lee is not even close to the level of Smith. To say otherwise is ignorant or just simply in denial. Some people would probably keep Lee if having the choice of Smith coming back.
Usually the initial reaction is correct. Remember how many people said "huh" when he was hired.

Sure the Yotes didn't make the tourney under Smith but they were a heck of alot closer. I miss the days of Matt Mooney and the positivity of Coyotes Basketball. Lee is like the grumpy old grandpa era of Yotes hoops.

I certainly wish that Craig Smith could have stayed here forever and prefer I'm over Lee. I also think that if an opportunity to hire a guaranteed upgrade over Lee comes around, we should take it. With that said, I think Lee is better than some are giving him credit for. We were not at all mediocre with a healthy AJ last year. Despite the tough losses, we seem to be gearing up to peak at the right time this year. Next year, I expect that we'll be back in the upper tier of the conference. What could ultimately sink Lee's battleship is of he fails to obtain the talent needed to be on even ground with State within the next couple years. We don't have a lot of open scholarships for the incoming freshman class, but I believe our one recruit is a certified stud. The 2023 class needs to be flush with talented high school recruits and collegiate transfers as well. If that happens, we'll be set for a while and Lee's critics will be eating crow.

I'm still kind of in the camp that Lee has this team over achieving given the talent on the roster. We don't have an impressive team, let's call it like it is. Outside of Kruz and Tasos, there's not much fire power out there with AJ on the bench. Hell we really only have 7 or 8 players at this point. I know nothing about basketball recruiting or how that works. If he's failed to address the personnel, that's on him. But as far as product on the court goes, we could be a lot worse off considering what we have in the cupboard.

For me the reason is irrelevant because in college the coach is the GM as well. He has final say in everything. The SCSC has 2 worthy tenants and one not so worthy Tennant. I don't want to hear how the team plays so hard. It didn't looked like they were very locked in on D against the Jacks.
