I'm shocked this game is going to happen. We've had a hard time getting quality teams coming to the Dome. We're a transitional team and the Dome is a snakepit. Teams know that when they come here there's a good chance they're leaving with an L. Probably the best team to ever come here was UNI last year and they narrowly escaped with a W, that's after drilling us by about 60 at UNI the year before.
I'm thrilled EWU is coming to town and can't wait for this game to kickoff. I hope many of your fans make the trip, we'll be glad to have you.

I see that lakes, the migratory message board mental midget has made his way over here. He's got a thing for EWU.
What kind of offense and defense do the Yotes run? Looking forward to this game, and hope we get out with a W and no injuries before the showdowns with the Montanas.

I would anticipate a very high scoring game. The Coyotes can be very explosive. The thing that makes them dangerous is that they are not one dimensional. We have a brutal offensive line, 2 very quick and fast running backs, an elusive quarterback that can throw from both the pocket and on the run.
Defensively we are at risk. I do think we will have improved, but I am not as confident as some here on the board are. If we do improve defensively, and we play our game offensively, I see a 42-38 game either way.
We are very much looking forward to hosting you.

I would expect a little lower scoring game than some - both teams under 30.
USD lacked depth defensively last year, and also lacked consistent play from the defensive front. This year expect a deeper defensive squad with the addition of some key DL/DE players not on the field last year.
Early in the season against some really solid competition USD looked much better than later in the year. UNI was on the ropes until the 4th quarter last year when they finally wore the Yotes out.
Expect Ed to slow things down and try and control the clock. I think he is serious when he says he is going to establish the run this year. Big experienced OL + a mobile QB + Ganious/Sims + deep and experienced WR corps should open things up quite a bit. The ability to put pressure on the opponent's QB with a solid DB/LB unit should create some turnover opportunities as well.
This should be a hell of a game! USD 27 EWU 24

I'll agree with the OBC's assessment, especially like his prediction. I feel very comfortable with this offense if this turns into a high scoring affair, though. I think the O this year has the ability to put up some serious points on any team they play this season, except Wisconsin, but including Air Force. I think they can score on Air Force.
I think there is some serious excitement for this EWU game, as there should be.

Unless USD can find a way to get to the quarterback, Eastern Washington's Bo Levi Mitchell could tear apart the Coyote 'D.'
Speaking of EWU, anyone like them to give Washington a run for its money in the season opener?

I hope EWU beats UW, comes in sky high expecting to roll the Yotes and having no idea the game they are in for. Plus it would look real good on our resume to beat the defending champs who just beat a Pac 12 team. That said, I predict UW beats them handily.

So no one actually answered my question. Do you guys run a spread, option, pro-set? On defense, a 3-4, 4-2-5?
If your secondary is suspect, we will put up more than 30. We have a lot of big targets and can strike quick. I see it being a 45-31 type game, in favor of EWU.

USD uses a 3-4 defense, had trouble last year getting any pressure on the quarterback. But the Coyotes return 10 of 11 starters, including everyone in the secondary (including a Minnesota transfer who played only 2 snaps last year).
Offense is mostly power-ISO, with a lot of options. At times they like to spread it out with the receiving threats, and run a lot of draws, and they'll use the QB in the run game more this season

Actually, I think we'll see more of a power running game behind 2 very capable backs. No reason for the QB to carry as much of the load this season.

Nah, you can pretty much bet Dante Warren will be used more in the run game this fall. Ed Meierkort even said as much the other day.

Well, I guess I wouldn't run him that much seeing as how our schedule is AF, EWU, and Wisky in the first four games. One shot and he's done for the year. We saw how capable our backup was last year in that Lamar game. Just saying, since we have two good backs Dante shouldn't be exposed like that.

No, he isn't. He has moved to defensive back.
Let's be honest, there wasn't much about the running game that I was happy with last year. There was too much dancing at the line and not enough hitting the hole. Sims is the one who actually did that, so if he starts I give it more chance of success.
The offense has a chance to be dynamic, if it is consistent and if there are adjustments made in game, which have been lacking for the last couple of years. Looking at the end of last year, from the UND game on, USD had trouble putting points on the board.
If the offense can not play consistently, and leaning on either an inconsistent QB and an inconsistent running back last year, then EWU will take it too them.
I do have confidence the year under the belt will help this team, though, but I am still going EWU.
