Just starting the thread.
Thursday Jan 20 @7pm @ WIU - no TV or stream yet listed? I think WIU usually has a stream. Saturday Jan 22 @7pm @ UST - no TV or stream
Predictions: Yotes Lose to WIU 74-77 (+3) Massey Yotes Lose to WIU 75-80 (+5) WN Yotes Lose to WIU 76-78 (+2) ELO Yotes Lose to WIU -------(-6.8) Sagarin Yotes Lose to WIU 71-76.5 (-5.5) VegasInsider
Yotes Beat UST ....74-72 (-2) Massey Yotes Lose to UST 72-80 (+8) WN Yotes Beat UST ....80-72 (-8) ELO
If anyone has access to other predictions/ odds let me know. Sagarin and VegasInsider only show odds the day of the game. Looks like both of these games could go either way, but I like how the Yotes are playing recently.

I like the yotes in both of these games. They're playing tough defense and the shots are falling.

We obviously won't always shoot like we did against Omaha, but if the offense has truly turned a corner, I agree that winning both these games in very possible. I could be wrong, but I don't expect St. Thomas to take us by surprise. They've been off for a few weeks and everyone has film on them now. Just can't let them get hot from beyond the arc.

Looking briefly at Conference-only stats, Western Illinois is a fast-paced, high # possessions team. Only SDSU plays faster in the Summit. They shoot the lowest 3-Pt % in the league (27%), but still hit an average 7.2 per game due to volume shooting. We also shoot a little more efficiently from inside the arc, but the scoring margin is similar between the teams.
Western gets a lot of rebounds, but part of that is due to playing fast. USD wins the rebound margin comparison (+3.3 / -1.5), so that's good. I'd even add to that due to Goodie's new emphasis on that part of his game.
Ball Control: Both teams have a similar Turnover margin, but Western is #1 in steals compared to #10 for USD. USD has a far better Assist/Turnover ratio due to Western's poor Assist numbers. I guess I'm not sure what to make of all that. USD gets a lot of turnovers without all the steals.

That's just great. Once again Western screws with USD. How many games have they cancelled on us now because of Covid? Would have been nice to know ahead of time so the team didn't have to spend the athletic department money, miss class and take the back roads to Macomb for no reason only to have to do it again sometime in the future. At some point I'd just tell them to suck eggs, but I suppose that would cause us to forfeit.

From the goyotes.com website:
Tonight's men's basketball game between South Dakota and Western Illinois to be played inside Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois, has been postponed out of an abundance of caution due to health and safety protocols within the Coyotes' program.

Heard this at the women's game so mea culpa on my part. Thanks for pointing this out. Nah. Screw western. They've done enough shady crap since this all started. I'm still pissed about them canceling the football game because they didn't want to practice in the cold. The state of Illinois should quit delaying the inevitable and just pull the plug on the university.

Is this line of thinking any better than the (numerous) state fans who claim we were afraid to play them last year and backed out of the football game? There was a covid issue on the team. I still don't think we should have canceled because it's a cold. But we followed suit with what the rest of the world was doing at the time. Western didn't practice because it was cold outside and had a convenient excuse to cancel.

Pretty easy to fall below the threshold when you don't have many players available to begin with.
I watched some of the St. Thomas/SDSU game - that isn't a great matchup for the Yotes. Tommies like to get in an up-and-down, shoot a quick 3, and cheat on D to get a run-out style. Yotes will need to control the tempo (if there is a game).

I hope everyone recovers quickly. This was mentioned last night at the end of the Jackrabbits broadcast.
