Love watching these girls! Michigan looks big but so was Baylor and so was Ole Miss. Team suffocating defense is our game. I expect nothing less vs Michigan. GO YOTES

ESPN article from Charlie Creme, re-seeding the Sweet 16: www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/33566988/women-ncaa-tournament-2022-reseeding-sweet-168. Michigan Wolverines Original seed: No. 3 Sweet 16 seed: No. 2 2022 tournament record: Defeated No. 14 American 74-39; defeated Villanova 64-49
Consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter as they pulled away from Villanova highlight the best of the Wolverines. First, they swung the ball around the perimeter and made two or three extra passes until freeing open sharpshooter Maddie Nolan for a 3-pointer. On the next trip down the floor, a crisp pass to the low post found star senior Naz Hillmon for a layup. That sequence pushed Michigan's lead into double figures on the way to the Wolverines' second straight Sweet 16 appearance after never having been there before. Hillmon dominated with her 50th career double-double (27 points, 11 rebounds), but Leigha Brown's 18 points were even more important. Michigan's second-leading scorer, Brown is healthy again, and she played in just her fourth game after missing a month with a leg injury. 12. South Dakota Coyotes Original seed: No. 10 Sweet 16 seed: No. 4 2022 tournament record: Defeated No. 7 Ole Miss 75-61; defeated Baylor 61-47
The Coyotes have played like a team that was underseeded by the committee. They might still be underseeded here. In 80 minutes against Power 5 teams Ole Miss and Baylor, South Dakota has yet to trail. Coach Dawn Plitzuweit's defense has completely shut down two prospective top-five WNBA draft picks in Shakira Austin and NaLyssa Smith. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise. The Yotes ranked ninth in the country this season in points allowed per game. They just hadn't been this good against the Power 5 teams they played in November and December, including South Carolina, Northwestern and Oklahoma. One more win and Chloe Lamb and Hannah Sjerven will become national stars. They have been conference stars nearly their entire careers in the Summit League, with Lamb this year's player of the year and Sjerven a two-time defensive player of the year.

I'll update the title when we know our opponent. For now we can use this as a thread for the Michigan/Villanova game, too... OFFICIAL BRACKET
Predictions: Yotes lose to Michigan 59-64 (+5) Massey Yotes beat Michigan....61-60 (-1) R-1 Yotes tie Michigan.......60-60 (0) ELO These odds look similar to the Ole Miss odds. Very close. That number 60 is critical. In the Plitzuwiet era, the Coyotes are 106-2 when holding an opponent below 60.

That number 60 is critical. In the Plitzuwiet era, the Coyotes are 106-2 when holding an opponent below 60. nice stat! Here's our defensive performances vs top-50 offenses this year: offense rank | team | PPG | vs Yotes | diff | 3 | Oklahoma | 83.2 | 73 | -10.2 | 16 | Baylor | 76.5 | 47 | -29.5 | 22 | Creighton | 74.8 | 71 | -3.8 | 24 | SDSU | 74.6 | 42 | -32.6 | 24 | SDSU | 74.6 | 75 | +0.4 | 24 | SDSU | 74.6 | 45 | -29.6 | 27 | Drake | 74.0 | 46 | -28.0 | 34 | Michigan | 73.1 | 55.6* | -17.5* | 50 | KC | 71.6 | 57 | -14.6 | 50 | KC | 71.6 | 49 | -22.6 | 50 | KC | 71.6
| 67 | -4.6 |
* this is a projection based on our average performance (-17.5) against top-50 offensive teams If you change the criteria to "Power-6 top-50 offenses" (OU, Baylor, Creighton), the average is -14.5 (58.6 points) I'll guess we allow somewhere between 55 and 58 points in regulation play. I'm not sure on our offense. Depends on how the ball is bouncing.

This will be a tough game just like the first two. What’s interesting is even after dismantling Ole Miss and Baylor many news articles I’ve seen still say “the road to the elite 8 is easy now for Michigan”. Honestly I feel very good about Saturday, it seems our journalist and Michigan friends haven’t received the memo yet to not look ahead.
I like our chances against the rest of the Wichita Regional and right now I think this team is playing with fire. Let’s go get the leagues first sweet 16 win and the leagues first elite 8 and final 4 appearances.

Had anyone heard if there is a fan bus or 2 headed to Wichita I would doubt it for a few reasons. 1. Not a lot of time to plan. 2. Who is organizing it? 3. With labor shortages, you sure you can get a bus & driver on short notice? 4. Lodging at various locations? Just makes sense to me people will make their own travel plans.

A fan bus would be sweet tho. Having a designated driver all the way there and not having to pay for gas. It's probably enough for me to set aside my hatred of coach busses for a couple days. After spending hundreds of hours on them going all over for road games in college, it would take a lot to get me on one again.

But I’ve still got a very good feeling about Saturday. I think it’ll come down to a few points but we will pull it off. This tournament just seems different for so many reasons and no matter what this team has accomplished more than anyone asked for.

Hillmon's obviously a great player but so were Smith and Austin.
Same formula ... quick start to halves to get that confidence going early and plant the seed of doubt in the "bigger" squad, stay strong and purposeful with the ball, keep Sjerven out of foul trouble and just keep executing what the staff is telling you to execute.
Then just go have fun. What an experience for the Yotes, their families and fans. Everybody just breathe as much of it in as you can.
