Funny - Several of these names are also being discussed on the Minnesota GopherHole message board. If offered by both schools, I wonder which one they would pick? ๐ Grothaus, Hakes, and Ranke (if healthy) would all be great gets. I think Cal Baptist had a coaching change. Also, Ellie Dague already committed to St. Thomas. I was curious about your thoughts on these names. Missed the Ellie Dague to St. Thomas news. I really believe that with the players returning and the recruits coming in, there is a lot of potential here already. Some of these kids will step up and be real factors next year. What there isn't a lot of is experience. The right transfers could help bridge that gap. I may be crazy, but I'm excited to see how it comes together!

I donโt know what her plans are, but Olivia Lane from North Dakota would not be a bad pick up. She definitely has experience and talent, she just needs to get her emotions under control. However, sometimes those emotions drive her and make her fierce. In addition, I have a feeling that she wants her sister as part of the package deal, and I donโt know how good her sister is.

Olivia Lane could be an interesting addition, but not particularly interested in a package deal. With such a glut of players in the portal, I wonder if the sister will even find a home.

Her folks went to USD. Her sister was an excellent trackster for State.

I missed a big one that kiyoat listed. Caitlyn Harper - Rs soph California Baptist. From Hatland WI. 17.8 points 5.9 rebounds 1.3 assists 1.3 steals 1.6 blocks last year. Has been at Cal Baptist for 4 years but still apparently has two to play as she had a medical redshirt (played in only 5 games one year) and of course the covid year. 2021-22 WAC player of the year. Has visited Purdue recently so there is lots of competition for her. Would be a huge addition. From Wisconsin so I imagine Kayla is familiar with her. Has signed with Purdue.

I have to think that we haven't heard portal news because our coaches are being choosy, and deliberating... trying to find "good fit" candidates. Something like that. Also, it's hard to both put together a staff, shore up relationships with current and future committed players, work out and evaluate the current roster to determine need, establish new recruiting targets, put together a 2023 schedule, ... etc.
Tough job for a brand new head coach. I'm sure our Athletic Department is assisting her (and Coach Pete) well, but there are just a lot of balls in the air right now. I'm sure we will get some transfer news soon. The right fit is more important than the quick fix. I'm hoping for a 2 or 3-year type transfer player.
One of Coach P's new grad-transfer players will make WVU her 4th school... I'm sure she's a great player, but that's just insane from a culture standpoint. Welcome to the future, I guess.

The new coach at Syracuse who had been at Buffalo currently has 4 players from Buffalo transferring into Syracuse. 2 of the remaining 3 transfers are making Syracuse their 3rd school. This direction will make game programs necessary to keep up with the roster.

That is all well and good, the problem your staff faces is that they have 3 more days to sign any non-grad transfer players if they want them to be eligible for the one-time transfer rule exception for this upcoming season. Makes me wonder if your staff doesn't instead focus on 1-2 year window grad transfers instead. This would give them a chance to evaluate the players currently rostered and those with scholarship offers. Having the 1-2 year players means that even if you are wrong by making a hasty judgement you don't have to live long with the mistake and aren't doing it in place of younger players you are offering. It appears likely that they will have 1000+ to choose from next year if things don't work out the way they want only they will be able to look after having a better feel for the strengths/weaknesses and needs for the team. There have to be quality players who despite the loss of 5 starters and a HC would still covet coming to play for a team coming off a Sweet 16 appearance.
