BALL DON'T LIE! NDSU does not get away with having too many players on the field after all!

Run the ball, RPO, Screens, Run the ball, Run the ball, RPO, Screens. Every completion off RPO or Screens. Great defense! Stay out of 3rd and Long. Love it. Keep it up!

What a joke of a 2nd half. Gifted a 7 point halftime lead and we didn’t think that NDSU would make adjustments?

Happy for several reasons to have a bye week before going to Brookings.

Defense was on the field for forty minutes of the game. 'Yotes converted 1 of 9 third down opportunities. End of story.

It's pretty apparent where our shortcomings are whenever we play the Bison. It's on both sides of the line, especially on defense. We can line up and play with everyone in the valley except them. They just have better players and more depth. Our secondary is the best we've had in D1 but we just don't have the big guys to complement it. We have a chance if we win the turnover battle in these games but otherwise it's tough sledding. That being said, the talent gap has narrowed some. I'm just not sure if it's it's getting better or them coming back to the pack.

Honestly, that's about what I expected. My guess was about a 3 score loss and I was pretty close. I actually feel a little better about where we're at after that game. NDSU it's the perennial best team in the country and we were a couple of stupid turnovers away from having a game in the fourth quarter.

I did not expect a game. Wouldnt have had one if NDSU just pounded it up the middle all day. Thanks for giving me prolonged hope, I guess.
I'll be in Brookings expecting a win.

NDSU it's the perennial best team in the country and we were a couple of stupid turnovers away from having a game in the fourth quarter. Honest and sincere questions. The refrain of "well if you take away the 4 big plays they and and we make the 3 big plays we missed then it's a close game" feels like a broken record for these games IMO. I'm not trying to be negative or a glass empty kinda fan, but am I sincerely wondering, at what point is that not an acceptable excuse for a loss? And beyond that, what is the realistic expectation for a USD football team in the Valley? Are we trying to become a title contender? Are we trying to play NDSU at home and be favored to win? Or is the best we can hope for (realistically) 3rd or 4th year in and year out and be an at large in playoffs? I realize the schedule is daunting this year and we have the OC drama etc, so maybe Im being harsh. But I am still a bit confused as to what my expectations should be. This year. 5 years from now, 15 years from now. Opinions welcomed.

You can't expect regularly beat teams you're less talented than. Sure it happens, but week in and week out, the better team will win eventually.

Not really upset tonight. Maybe a bit that we're up by 7 at half and then NDSU imposed their will. But that game was won by their FB. That kid's a stud and every NFL team should be on him. Guaranteed 5 yards when you give him the ball and he moves the chains. If NDSU doesn't have him they lose.
So, on to Brookings.

Luepke is a machine. Can't try and tackle him high (which our DBs tried to do too much). He has good vision and quick cutbacks and you couple that with at least a mid FBS range O line and everyone has trouble slowing their run game down. Glad he's a senior and best of luck to him at the next level. Old timers will remember a full back we had in the late 60s/early 70s named Steve Pelot. He had a similar body type and was also a weapon!
Our schedule is as tough as advertised so the team just needs to keep improving not get down and keep chopping wood!! They certainly played with a lot of heart and effort!!

I'm just not sure if it's it's getting better or them coming back to the pack. Here's the NDSU starting offensive line from left to right: SR, SR, SR, SR, JR. Here's USD's: SR, FR, FR, JR, SO. Every season we seem to have a young team that's playing veteran teams and I can't figure why that is. Our starting offensive and defensive lineups listed two seniors today while NDSU had 12. The schedule next season will be way less daunting so maybe that bodes well for the future, and being realistic, this year's schedule is ridiculous, but I just can't figure out why we can never field a team that's senior/junior dominated like some of these other teams do. We always seem to be young.
