The issue is that Bob's floor and ceiling are right next to each other. It's like Todd Lee is coaching our football team. Good enough to beat bad teams but not good enough to beat good ones. Generally competent but not good. It's maddening. Maybe Herbie will take a cue from his men's basketball move. I don’t think it was Herbie who fired Todd Lee. Came from the top. Gestring only attended 1 MBB game all last season, on Native American heritage day. Anyone else remember Todd graveling for his job during preseason presser? But I also have a hard time seeing how they run this back next season. My biggest issue is, if a guy who has won literally everywhere else comes here and has marginal success, how do we not have a perception of a coaching graveyard. Maybe half step above WIU. Sure we have better facilities, but less population and in backyard of two top 5 FCS teams.

Maybe he has done as much at the FCS level as he can. Maybe we don't have the wherewithal to pay for good enough assistants. Maybe it is Vermillion or the facilities. Maybe we can't win recruiting battles in our own backyard. It is likely some combination of all of those. There is no good answer. I'll support whatever decision they make but I'll reserve the right to raise fair questions.

Everyone's disappointed I get that but our scedule has been a nightmare. We need to reload and play the schedule out.
When you're playing top tier teams basically week after week it's hard to get in a rhythm and you throw in some turnovers, penalties, injuries etc ....
Buckle up Coyotes the season isn't over! Yote fans show up and help OUR team wherever they're playing!!!

Being 1-4 isn’t the big issue. It’s looking incompetent on offense and not even competitive. How is it we STILL have OL issues? How can we not even complete a pass? We haven’t hardly been competitive. Didn’t ISUr beat UNI today? SIU beat Northwestern and is 3-0 in MVFC. YSU looks competitive. MOST is crumbling, but UND had a tough road win today. There’s no gimmie on that schedule the way we look.

The offensive incompetence is what does it for me. We appear to be completely lost there. We had two weeks to prep for state and our plan was to pound the rock against the best d-line in the FCS. Is Camp the problem? Our Oline? Both? We've been hearing big things about both for a couple years, but we still get dominated by solid d-lines.
I'm willing to let the season play out, but I don't see us finishing with a winning record in year 7. Herbster has shown a recent propensity to bring in up and coming coaches. Why not in football?

I agree the O especially needs to get better! Also agree we're not a top 10 team right now but the cupboard is NOT bare by any means. We led the #1 team by 7 at half, the #2 team 3-0 end of first Q (Iowa scored 3 offensive points all game against state and so did we and neither of us were happy!), played at KSU, at MT..... No need to panic but improvement needs to be made each week or coaches need to try some new options!
There needs to be some more creative play calling at times, minimize mistakes, etc. Play with more fire and emotion and not just occasionally!!!
Go Yotes!!

Yes, the schedule has been absolutely brutal and our defense typically has done a really nice job in these games until they get worn out. As we saw yesterday, our zone pass coverage struggles, so that is something we need to work on for sure, but overall there has been improvement in our defense against some very good offenses. There are some really nice players on our defense! They need help though from a competent offense.
The struggles on offense are self inflicted the majority of time. Poor clock management, how many timeouts have we burned because the play didn’t get in fast enough. Yes, the OL will get beat at times, but poor pass protection technique and lack of ability to pick up blitzes is extremely evident. In the run game we are actually pretty good at times except for formation creativity in putting hats on the outside LB and safeties to help spring our RBs for bigger runs (watch how SDSU was using their formations). The passing game is extremely inept!! I liken it to small town high school football. No creativity nor the willingness to use motions, formations to create any type of leverage. I truly wonder what we are watching when we breakdown our opponents defense or what they may do on down and distance situations. It has to be extremely frustrating for our offensive skill players to play in this offense. Plus on top of it, have to watch a QB that doesn’t understand how to throw WRs and TEs open and plays scared in the pocket.

It is time to pull the plug on Nielson. The only thing going on with the program is sustained mediocrity.

As unfavorable (to say the least) as this season's schedule is, next year's shapes up to be very favorable so I would expect to make the playoffs. Whether that's with or without Nielson at the helm remains to be seen and no one's asking for my opinion. Anybody fill me in on his contract status for next season?

I don't know his contract or buyout status, but I do have to wonder whether we would be quick to add a 2nd buyout to our plate (Todd Lee). But again, season is so very far from over. Team has not met anyone's expectations on the field but we need to stick with it. A win Saturday could quickly change our outlook for the rest of the season.

I'm not a USD fan. That said, this is not a bad team. There is good talent there and the team was obviously prepared Saturday. The running game showed threats of being dangerous. With just another second or two of time, the passing game would be effective; opening up the running game. The defense did a good job of bottling up Davis for nearly two quarters. Looking at the schedule USD would be favored in three of the upcoming games. And, a win in two more would be only minor upsets. I would think the team would be up for the nickel and make that competitive also.

See Ted is no longer listed on the coaching staff. I personally feel like all the drama or whatever surrounding that is a big part of the offensive woes thus far. I wonder what the locker room is like?
Going forward, are we going to be favored in any remaining games? Mo St? UNI?
