Coyotes travel to Youngstown State who is 4-3 and 2-2 in the conference after a win over Western Illinois 28-27 last weekend.

We enter this week at 2-5...1-3 in the Valley. The real question in my mind, and I'm sure I'm not the only one...if we run the table the rest of the way do we get into the post-season? Or is it too little, too late? If Bouman stays at Qb and we see a resurgence, with our SOS, 6-5 should be enough to open some eyes on the committee and sneak in. 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference is a decent accomplishment in the grand scheme of things when you look at that schedule and how we started. However, none of that matters if we don't take care on business in Ohio this weekend.
I'm probably getting way too far ahead with that type of thinking, but Saturday gave me hope again.
Like YF always says, 1 game at a time. Let's go 1-0 this week and see what happens.

We've never won in Youngstown though. Let's do that first.

This game Saturday is a playoff game. YOTES is correct. Youngstown there has been an issue. It’s certainly winnable. IF we win that game, and that’s a big if, then we come home to Missouri State. The following week North Dakota. Then finish with UNI.
One game at a time, but at minimum they took us off the ventilator. There’s life and hope.

To expand just a little, this is the team I expected to see all year. I’ve said before and don’t want to be Captain Obvious, but the mental aspect of the game is huge. If you believe you can win, you can win. If you don’t, you won’t. Sometimes you just have to go through the depths of sports hell before you rebound. We were in the deep end. But now we have a life jacket.
Winning breeds winning. A win Saturday with no major injuries and then every game after is in a Dome. That’s big. The bounce in the step of our players yesterday was incredible. They’re back with a lunch bucket mentality. Now, I’ll say this. Saying it and doing it are two different things. But at least they’re saying it.
Lastly, I’m guessing most people wouldn’t know this, but several Iowa State players were at the game to give a show of support to Aiden. That was really cool. Three O-line guys. They are massive. But just a really cool thing.

Off to the Ice Castle!! I hope they can finally win there. Take this for whatever it’s worth but I had a pretty good chat with someone who routinely speaks with donors and alumni. I was told some feel this staff has ruined a QB in 6 games. And the concern is instantly that another one is gonna go down soon enough. The O line coach is a huge problem and they wondered how Camp was sacked 70 times in 23 or 24 games. It’s true I looked it up. Hanging on to the ball too long? Coverage sacks? Probably both. But there’s no stat line that tells you that. I did see a play on Saturday where Bouman instantly threw it at the RB’s feet when the edge rushers got through. Smart play. Camp would have ran around to buy time and not give up on the play. Probably ill advised alot of the time, but that’s his mindset apparently. Good or bad. Was also told the OC fiasco really caused some major locker room problems and put a few players right in the middle of it. I’m guessing that involved the QB’s too. Sounds like Bob has been too hands off for too long. Hopefully, these last few games can right the ship going forward, but I’m going with guarded optimism.

I also noticed that play where Bouman basically spiked the ball at a RB or shallow receiver. It's something I felt I haven't seen a USD QB do in a long time. The past several years that play usually has our guy trying to scramble a play into existence instead. I think that's a good thing unless you've got someone like Streveler or Mahomes at QB.

The past several years that play usually has our guy trying to scramble a play into existence instead. I think that's a good thing unless you've got someone like Streveler or Mahomes at QB. I noticed the play, too. The called play appeared to be a screen, where the OL purposefully let the DL/LB rush upfield and then release to block downfield. In that situation, it's nonsensical for the QB to hold onto the ball and try to make a play. Nobody is blocking for him, yet he can't throw the ball away downfield because we'd have OL illegally downfield. The only play is to throw it at the RB's feet. It shows how lost our QBs have been in the last 7 years that we've always tried to "make something out of nothing" on a play like that. Throw it at his feet and live to pay the next down. A breath of fresh air to see that type of thinking from Bouman.

That play highlights why Bouman is the QB we need right now. Processes the game quickly and makes a decision. Gets the ball out on time and allows the receiver to make a play. Quick decisions that make our O-line look better. The O-line's confidence started to increase when they tasted success, all the sudden the run blocking started to get better then the pass blocking. If the play is not there, kill it and move on to the next one with minimal damage. He's just processing and managing the game at a higher level right now.
The QB making quick and solid decisions is game changing for this offense. Now, those decisions may not always be the right decisions going forward but I am fine with that. Just make a decision to make a play and let's go.

I don’t think running the table would be enough to make the playoffs, but could be enough to save Bob’s job. Easier schedule next season, find a new OC, and hopefully this was a 1 year blip blamed on the schedule. But first they must break the losing streak at YSU. And cannot expect a similar comeback on the road. Gotta play a full 60 minutes.

Most yote fans I talk to are ready to move on. I don't know of too many coaches who have been mediocre (at best) for seven seasons then find their stride in year 8 at age 64. I think this is a good time to get a fresh start regardless of how the rest of the season plays out. Just my thoughts.

If we run the table and end up 6-5, possibly with a postseason berth, it would be pretty difficult to cut ties with the head coach. We obviously have to wait and see how things play out, but if this season gets turned around and we finish strong, I would be in full support of this staff returning. We would need to hire a new OC and shake some things up offensively but I feel like the program is on solid footing right now. The OC debacle with Ted left us dead in the water, if we can salvage this year and end up over .500 overall and in the league, that's one hell of a job by the men running this program. All that said, we need to win this week for any of it to matter.

Even if, and that's a big if, we manage to win out, I don't think the committee is going to look past the flat out embarrassing performances to start the season. It's not like we lost close ones. We didn't belong on the same field. It's time to move on. I commend Bob on what he's done and thank him for his efforts, but we need a fresh start. Like YF said above, winning breeds winning and right now we unfortunately have a culture of mediocrity. We are perceived as second tier in the conference and in our own back yard. The program needs a hungry up and comer that will win ball games. Even if it's a stepping stone job for him, a few winning seasons strung together would go along way towards building a culture of winning - on the field and in recruiting battles.

I think it's just time right now to focus on football.
The end of season analysis for coaches will take place as always. I trust H to make good determinations.
Right now---BBQ the penguins!! Go Yotes!!!

I really wish that you guys wouldn't revive my hope like you are. We'll probably blow a close game, because of Bob taking 30 seconds to decide between zone power left or screen pass right on a crucial 3rd and short. (reverse jinx)
