That was an impressive performance. Perhaps ORU played over their skis a bit in Brookings based on their earlier scores (albeit against a tough schedule). But I still think ORU is a top-5 team in the Summit. To play that well and just destroy them in the 4Q (34-9) is just impressive, caveats or not.

I enjoyed watching this game - gosh, I love the free stream option when you live out of state. I would have to imagine that the rest of the Summit teams are thinking... Here we go again.... Nice win, and excited to see the progress; ball handling was great, along with the overall teamwork. Continue to believe in yourself, girls; you are building something special!

I really hope Hempe and Hansen can build on that performance. They need to be that offensively assertive every night.

That was a very impressive performance. Karius has been saying this team is growing and improving even if we can't always see the results. Looks like we are starting to see it.
There will undoubtedly be some bumps in the road at times this year. But this kind of start gets you pretty pumped for what it to come in terms of the conference season. State is certainly still the prohibitive favorite but with continued improvement the Yotes could at least be dangerous.
The rebounding edge was massive today. You have to love the mental toughness of this team to weather a pretty rough non-conference season and keep grinding.

.. State is certainly still the prohibitive favorite but with continued improvement the Yotes could at least be dangerous... Oh yeah. At the end of the non-con I was wondering if we would finish in the top half. Now I'm thinking we should finish somewhere 2-4, with a puncher's chance to return to the championship game. Hell, if they keep playing like they did today, ... "more is possible" This should at minimum put to bed any talk that this team lacks talent. Coach P didn't recruit all of these girls to be permanent scout team. They are the present and future of the program. Well done.

Overall great team win as everyone has said!!
First Q D was fantastic! OR wanted to dribble drive and the Lady Yotes as remember didn't let one by for an easy lay up and without fouling. In the 2nd a couple got by but hard to maintain perfection indefinitely. Saw a couple of FT shooters with better arch and they made almost every shot. Couple other FT shooters need a little softer touch for more success.
More work on breaking the trap won't hurt although it got better as time went on.
O was lights out in all areas, made 3s, inside game, ball rotation, assists, etc.
Also were beasts on rebounding!!
Keep it going ladies!!!

I really hope Hempe and Hansen can build on that performance. They need to be that offensively assertive every night. Hempe is very patient when attacking, and she has some subtle movements which allow her to get shots up in the lane. She can convert those shots because she keeps her balance. Maybe it's just an instinct she's developed to cover up a lack of speed and quickness. I also think she is figuring out that her size can really work for her. Today she put up a shot in traffic, missed, but pulled down the rebound in traffic and converted the putback. The Yotes do lack size in the post, but when they have Hempe, Hansen, and Carson on the floor they have pretty good size and length on the wing.

One thing that has been a positive all year is the depth of the team. It certainly seemed like it was an 'uninspiring group' at times during the Non-con. However, if they can build on a performance like this, that depth could cause some real trouble for some teams in the league.
There's still a lot of work to do, like reducing the TOs, keeping the defensive effort at a high level, but good progress today!

Another noteworthy accomplishment...they won the opening tip! I believe that's a first this season. 😄

Maybe, just maybe, it's possible that reports of our demise were premature.

After Monday's game, I thought they had a real chance to win against Oral Roberts if they played well. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect them to dominate and win by 40+.
Has to feel really damn good for these women to see their hard work paying off.
