Well, the Yotes just got a confidence-boosting win against KC to start league play, and now we face a new challenge: the "riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma" that is ORU Women's Basketball... They have a brand-new coach, new players and a very daunting non-conference schedule, against which they lost a lot of games.... ... and then they nearly just knocked off the Jacks at Frost...

Yotes win 76-68 (-8) Warren Nolan Yotes win 76-63 (-13) Massey We over-performed the predictions against KC, but I think in this case the "stats" are under-estimating the G-Eagles. I'm thinking we will get a tough battle from them, maybe a loss. |

I watched a little bit of the SDSU/ORU game and while SDSU is still good they’re not the high and mighty team they all claim to be. ORU was able to essentially go toe for toe with the mighty jacks (even with Paige Meyer back).
I’m any case it’s going to be a great battle. The issue that Ended up plaguing ORU late in the game was foul trouble, a similar situation for us. If we can limit our fouls while still forcing them into committing them I like our chances.

Here are some post-game notes from the ORU article:  Hannah Cooper, the reigning Summit League Peak Performer of the Week, poured in a game-best 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting, hauled in six rebounds and dished out four assists to lead the Golden Eagles on the night.  Off the bench, Sara Rodrigues followed with 15 points after finishing 6-of-11 from the field. Ariel Walker and Delaney Nix rounded out the double-figure scorers for ORU with 11 and 10, respectively.  In her first start as a Golden Eagle, Makenna Winans contributed with six points and a team-best nine rebounds. |

I watched the second half of that ORU-SDSU game and the Yotes better come out of every quarter break ready to play tomorrow night.
That squad coming in is no joke.

Looks like ORU likes a fast-paced game, similar to Drake or Oklahoma. In fact, they are Currently the 2nd-"fastest" team in the country, averaging 82 possessions a game.
I'm assuming that influenced the high total score of the ORU/SDSU game. Not sure if that plays to our strengths (likely not), but it's something notable.

They're going to trap the shit out of Larkins I'd imagine and look to get the game into more of a free-flowing affair for sure. The 6-3 girl could give the Yotes fits. But they've got some salty guards too. It's going to be a real test I would think.

I was going to do a stats comparison, but when a team averages that many possessions, it skews all the "totals" stats. Also, the fact that they have played a very tough non-conference schedule skews all the stats. So just watching the team will give way more information than stats will at this point. I personally thought NDSU would be the team to give the jacks a run and be the team to beat to take 2nd/3rd. If ORU has all their players back for the jacks rematch in Tulsa the outcome could be much different. We need to secure home court and just find a way to win this one. Solid defense will be critical in this game as I don’t think we can afford to turn this into a shootout.

I'd just want a solid effort again. Last time a team rolled down from Brookings after playing the Jacks they went from losing by 40 at Frost to winning in the SCSC. I'm happy everybody's back on the optimism train after beating a dreadful KC team but I just want to see a competitive effort in this one. The difference in competition so far this season between ORU and USD is WIDE.

The difference in competition so far this season between ORU and USD is WIDE. I’d say we’re cautiously optimistic. But some pieces are getting put together. The 4th quarter still presented many areas that need to be cleaned up. You are correct ORU is a different beast compared to KC and they’ll take advantage of our mistakes. |

There were calls that made no sense whatsoever, with every single touch (real or imagined) being called on one end of the floor, and nothing being called on the other. Look at the foul discrepancy, look at the free-throw discrepancy. Both teams were playing equally physically and aggressively.
