Demers didn't play at all in the second half. I missed the start of tbe game, but per the box score, she started, but only played 7 minutes. Did something happen that limited her minutes? Also noticed that Grange wasn't in uniform tonight. Any updates on her status?

ORU might not be more athletic than us by much but their coaching staff has them locked in to the game plan and they developed that raw or no apparent talent up. I really don’t see what our game plan is most days other than give the ball to grace and hope she carries us to a win.

Liked the first half intensity. As mentioned in a previous post our entry passes to the post are painful to watch. From an athletic stand point we appear to be subpar. I think we doomed ourselves with a particular lineup we went to in the 3rd/4th quarter. Just did not feel it was a good combination to have in together and made us defensively susceptible. And of course the turnovers.

Demers started the 2nd half and after ORU got a quick five points, Kayla called timeout and Hempe went to the scorer's table and that was it for Walker. Kayla said in the pregame that Grange got hit in practice and is in concussion protocol.

The supporting cast though still has to do their thing. You want the best player to have the ball but the rest still gotta make plays and lock down on protecting the ball.

They left Jones open to shoot threes all night. Same with the one who made four. ORU was playing tight defense. The Coyotes had to work a lot harder to get off good shots.
Against NDSU, we got outscored 19-2 down the stretch. Tonight it was 21-6. It has been like they hit a wall where they can’t make a shot and, especially tonight, can’t get stops. Both were home games. On the road, they have been owning the end of games.
They seemingly cannot handle prosperity. Every time they increased the lead and got a little separation, they would quickly give it away with turnovers or giving ORU wide open threes. They turned it over several times trying to force passes to players who were not open. There was one play tonight where we were taking the ball out on the side. Grace was standing there wide open near half court. Instead, the pass goes to someone who was being double teamed near the free throw line and is stolen. The inconsistency this far into the season is frustrating.

I think everyone is questioning why Demers isn’t playing, including opposing coaches. It has to be extremely frustrating for these post players, recruited by a very successful coach with a history of developing and effectively using the post. A good post is only as good as a guard capable of delivering a post bound pass.

A good post is only as good as a guard capable of delivering a post bound pass. I'm not questioning it. She's not very athletic, doesn't defend well, doesn't rebound well for her position, and isn't quick enough on her help assignments.

It's getting to be a familiar refrain. Defense, rebounding and turnovers. And I get it, it's much easier to blame the coaching staff than a bunch of 18-22 year-olds when things aren't going as you expect them to, but at the end of the day EVERY SINGLE basketball coach on planet Earth is preaching taking care of the ball, rebounding and not breaking down individually and as a team on defense. And as much as a coach can harp on those things and practice those things and diagram those things, it comes down to the players on the floor accomplishing it by physically and/or mentally beating their counterpart when bullets are flying. As I continue to say, I think there may be some overestimation in some fans' minds about just how much talent is on this team. And you need A LOT of talent if you continue to make the kinds of errors in execution that this team routinely makes.

And you need A LOT of talent if you continue to make the kinds of errors in execution that this team routinely makes. We have high d2, low mid major talent. We are probably 3 steps below where we were a few years ago, both at the top and bottom of the roster. Players we have to rely on as stalwarts are, outside of grace, roll players at best. It's just a culture shock for most who have been watching the last 10 years. We are probably 2 all conference level players from competing in any meaningful way. Depth pieces need upgrading as well. As captain obvious might say, recruiting is pretty important

The reality of it is we have what we have. Are we working with what we have to the best extent? What is the ceiling of some of these players and are they at their ceiling? Do we start looking at different combos? (However, we have played so many combos my head spins at times.) I just hope we can build and start developing something for the future. I can see that the “now” is going to be difficult. I really hate seeing us have to rely heavily on the transport portal. Too many new pieces every year that have not been developed here does not lend to a great team cohesiveness. And as a fan I like to cheer and watch these girls grow in the program.
