From what I know, we are lucky we only lost 3 to the portal/retirement. Jewett is the team's salvation, the players love and respect him! The toxicity of this forum doesn't help matters either. It is easy to hide behind an avatar, criticize and degrade a player or coach's decision. Said from behind an avatar without a shred of credibility or evidence to support the post.

This is true to some degree, but if it's one or even two posters who obviously have an agenda and constantly do nothing but criticize the program and every little decision made by the coaching staff...that's a problem. Even if it's not the player's fault it's a cancer that needs to be eliminated. A good friend who was a college coach once told me he called in a freshman player after the end of the season and told her that he thought she was going to be a good player, but that it was going to be at another school because he was done dealing with her dad. Take from that what you want. That's a different situation all together that would require some sort of direct interaction. If a coach is so soft that an online fan forum would make them do that, that's s different problem. Go read what the Bison fans post on their forums. It's 100 times worse than what happens here. I'd be willing to bet that if said person was chirping on here constantly that they'd also be in the coach's ear as well.

If a program/staff can’t build a culture inside that locker room to withstand some online forum discussion, I think we have a big problem. These ladies have been playing basketball their entire lives. They have had a multitude of coaches, heck some have even played for two coaches here at USD. I promise they know what’s what inside that locker room. They know if they are being developed, if they are being prepared, if they have a good game plan, or if they are being out coached. This forum gets a few posts a week during the season and if we all agreed about everything it would get almost none. Right or wrong we wouldn’t be breaking any news these kids didn’t already know or feel. What we say likely doesn’t matter within the walls of the SCSC. Keep it constructive, keep it civil, and don’t tear down 18-22 yr olds.

Holmes in the portal. With her father's passing this may well be situation where she is seeking a place closer to home, which would certainly be understandable.

I'd prefer to pass on the 1-year players to pick up someone with at least two seasons of eligibility, especially an undersized D2 player.

Sorry to hear the news on Holmes. It's understandable and we all wish her the best.
But for next year, this does open up a spot for a younger player like we've discussed. But if they go back to the portal maybe that's an indication they don't believe that one of the younger players can fill that role. I'm guessing they don't go to the portal again, and that Monahan was recruited with the Holmes news in mind. But we shall see.

Yeah, if we are needing a sniper SG on the roster to take pressure off of Grace, look no further than Klosterbuer. No idea what the rest of her game looks like, but she was a Class 2A POY in Iowa... so she is probably more than just a scoring threat. Really, all three of AK, O Kieffer and A Broughton were very high-scoring players in High School. If not for the injuries I'd bet we would have seen a good deal of all three this last season. OK played quite a bit as a back-up PG. Maybe we will see them save the extra scholarship for a future class, or use it in the portal to fill a different need, like depth at Post, or another "true" PG.

Unless we can get some sort of verified ready to go big I am for keeping those scholarships. I am not for the hodge podge roster style the portal creates. Let’s develop something we have and get some kind of identity. I get a portal player here or there. But let’s keep those scholarships for something long term here.

Scholly's for 1-year players make sense sometimes just to have another body on the roster that can contribute. It's not like the money carries over from year to year.
