Poor poor defense and no offensive plan. I wonder if they watched any film before this game. I wondered the exact same thing. Poor coaching

I wondered the exact same thing. Poor coaching Lol Believe what you want. We were outgunned for sure. But we looked clueless on both ends. That's coaching. Holmes might be worth a few points but we still lose by 25. It really was a sad effort. We were consistent all year in a few ways. 1) bad defense, with limited exceptions 2) not taking care of the ball 3)coaches not elevating the players. Some of it is fixable, some might not be. I will post an unpopular opinion in that the best coach on our team is not the current head coach. Kudos to Jewett for winning a couple NIT games. Let's hope we recruit well because I don't think we win 10 games if Grace isn't on this roster. We have work to do if we want to catch the jacks.

This was always going to be a tall task. We played the type of game we were able to play, which for right now is a middle of the pack summit league level. Is anyone thrilled about the score? No. But at the end of the day it’s still much needed post season experience and a chance to learn for next season. If next season we still are middle of the pack and have no sense of urgency or defense then go after the coaches with pitchforks all you want.

It's tough to not be disappointed with that result. I didn't expect them to win, but they are not 40 points worse than that team. Giving up 54 points in the paint is tough to believe. The game looked like some of the earlier efforts where they were overmatched in the interior and weren't connected to keep dribble drives from getting to the rim. They were so much better defensively the last month of the season that tonight was a step backward.
Honestly, I thought they raised the white flag a bit at the end of the first half when they allowed two simple dribble drives to get all the way to the rim without any help or resistance.
This team has been through a lot in the last three weeks, both physically and mentally. But we can recognize that and also say that the score tonight was disappointing.

I see Wyoming got a home game against Minnesota Monday night. Interesting.

Remember 2016? Gophers chose to host the Coyotes in round 2 of the WNIT. That did not turn out too well for the Gopher faithful, and they had Rachel Banham. One question for those in the know: How many W's did we get this season when we were the underdogs? Seems like not too many at first blush.

In quarterfinal action Monday night, Minnesota won at Wyoming 65-54, without Braun. Wyoming's center Fertig had another nice game with 20 and 11, but nobody else did much of anything.
Vermont plays Saint Louis in one semifinal while the Gophers go on the road again at Troy.

Interesting developments! Both Purdue and Wisconsin lost close games in front of half of their normal crowds. I can't help but wonder how they would have performed with a bigger crowd? Minnesota missed an opportunity to show if they would have had more fans come out for a quarterfinal, since they had to travel to Wyoming. Now they are having to Travel to Troy (Alabama). Here are the gym capacities and average attendance for the four remaining teams: team | ave attend | capacity | % | St Louis | 1376 | 10600 | 13 | Vermont | 1045 | 3228 | 32 | Minnesota | 4483 | 14625 | 31 | Troy | 2389 | 5200 | 46 |
I can see why Troy and Vermont were the selections to host (not knowing if the other teams were bidding competitively). Not only are they drawing at least their average attendance , but they also play in gyms where the smaller crowd still creates a great atmosphere. Minnesota's Super-16 crowd of 2367 only filled 16% of Williams Arena. I do hope that the Gophers win the WNIT, because I know that Coach P is a great coach, and I wish her well. I think within a few years she will have that team in the big dance consistently. As we have seen with Coach Williamson, winning in the Big Ten is not a cakewalk, but I do think Coach P will thrive eventually. Hopefully a WNIT final will bring out a big crowd in Minneapolis.

The Gophers were not able to host this week because The Barn was booked for a high school robotics event. They knew that going in, so they got as many games as they could at home.

I went to the first two games and thought the D looked pretty good, especially against NAU. What kept the first game from being a rout was the 20+ turnovers. We also did not shoot well, but got great play off the bench from Morgan and Tori. With the second game, it was poor shooting. After the first quarter, the D kicked in at a very high level. Offensively, we were aggressive, but couldn’t shoot. The free throws kept us in the game. Finally, some players other than Grace started making some shots and we tied it and then took off from there.
What we did not get was why the coach kept switching Mazurek out and in every minute or two. It would seem to make it hard to get into the flow of the game. And that is exactly what it looked like.
I didn’t see the Wyoming game, but was looking at the live stats. We did not have a ton of turnovers. Their center made nearly every shot. We could not shoot the entire game. We got out rebounded by a lot, but when shooting so much worse than the other team, that is to be expected. Without seeing it, was the defense that bad or was Wyoming just hot?

Was a combo WY hot as you mentioned their center couldn't miss for quite awhile and had several roll in. We had numerous shots (even layups) roll out and yes the D wasn't good at times.
So it was a perfect storm in their favor.

Gave up 54 points in the paint. Gave up a combined 44 points in the paint in the two previous games.
No chance with that number.
