It's good that the new AD is trying new things, but someone has to speak up when an idea doesn't work.

I like it. More modern look that I believe will appeal to younger people. I agree

I understand wanting to improve on the previous coyote but, this feels like a step in the wrong direction. I felt like a new logo would have some elements that pay homage to the past. Especially with the current focus on "Legacy." Looking at some of the most iconic US sports franchises and their branding, there are some timeless looks that don't need to be updated every 10-15 years. They can be simple, but still look sharp, and appeal to all generations (e.g. Packers, Steelers, Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Lakers, etc.) I do really like the SD paw and think that can be a mainstay for a long time. The return of throwback logos/unis have been a huge hit for college and professional teams. The modern "upgrades" tend to fall flat in my opinion (e.g. Miami Dolphins moving away from helmet dolphin for "sleek, athletic dolphin", Utah Jazz randomly going to yellow and black for a couple years before coming to their senses and deciding to bring back the purple mountains). I wish the secondary logo would have something that lets you know it is USD and not some generic logo as others have stated. When you search "angry coyote" or "coyote snarl" on Google, almost all the illustrations have mouth open and/or ears back. I agree that Arizona Coyotes or MN Timberwolves would be a better mold to build off of. The full row of teeth is strange. I am not a graphic designer, but, after 3 minutes of photo edit on my phone, I think this bumps it from a 6/10 to a 7/10?

Seeing this pains me. I love that account. They like promoting little guys. Even they felt the need to dunk on this logo.

I really like the new sub logo!
It really pops compared to the crouching Coyote which was ok!
And my four grandkids love it!!

I think it's fine! Good, in fact!
I liked the old secondary logo, too. But if you take a critical eye, what's the difference between the old logo and a wolf? What about it says "coyote"? Coyotes are different than wolves. They look different. the ears are a little bigger. They are more buff-grey colored.
But I can understand why (from a graphic art standpoint) they are emphasizing the grey rather than buff. Grey looks better with bright red, white and black, and is neutral. So it gives more potential combos with different colored apparel and alternate uniforms. Grey has somewhat become an unofficial part of the brand identity, anyway.
The colors used are similar, but they have added a second darker shade of grey to the mix. I really like that. It adds some depth and shading. And will look good with lighter backgrounds.
IDK, some people just automatically are against change. Like how much criticism the new "diverging diamond" intersection at 41st and I-29 has been getting in social media... even before anyone had used the finished product. I mean, there is data out there to show that the design results in less accidents, and improved traffic flow... but who cares what traffic engineers say, right? We don't need any of that big-city hippie bullshit intersection crap in Sioux Falls, right?
I'm a fan of the logo. And I have a feeling the student-athletes are, too.
Cry all you want, but I guarantee you will own some merch with it in the near future, and will probably forget you ever disliked it. Just like the people who learn to navigate the diverging diamond. Or you can wish we were still using the "U-dot" or "Wile-E-Coyote" logos. They are fine on retro stuff, but times change. Marketing matters.
And don't form your opinion based on negative comments from others. Hell, half of them blasting it are probably Jack-boys.
.... having said all that, I still think the Charlie Shuffle is terrible. No thanks.

I agree with kiyoat's comments on the new logo, but not his disparaging comments on the Charlie Shuffle.

Wait! I take it all back! Well, just the part about not including buff. They actually DID change the grey to pull it slightly in a buff direction. I'm a fan of that, too! Still fairly neutral, but with more character. Guessing we might see some alt uniforms in that grey/buff color? Would be fire. Could do a "desert sand" type of alt football uniform.

I like the red eye. Otherwise, the mouth is unnatural looking and the overall appearance is too similar to the AI generated images anyone can create in 10 minutes. It just looks incredibly cheap and amateurish. We’re clearly trying to counter SDSU’s bunny, which is a great idea, but with little investment or desire to develop it beyond the first draft.

One more thing, ... the new logo looks a lot like the coyote hand sign. That's a plus, to me.

My guess is that if you did a poll of the new sub logo vs the old with students, the new would win in a landslide!
And we are in a season of polls Lol.

And people also "vote" with their wallets. If you like the new logo, you will buy merch with it on. I'm sure our marketing department monitors stuff like that.

I’d be more interested in seeing it scored in a likert scale. A 2 beating a 1 is not necessarily something to celebrate.
