#1 Coyote fan just another question. Is it more important for you how Ed carries himself off the field or is it more important to you how he handles the football team and how successfull his program is. Personally I care about the football team and how they do on the field. Wins or losses, BAAABBBYYYY. Ed is a good guy and I stand by that.

I am more concerned about Ed's attitude. A lot of players look up to Ed and what he says and does and more than a few of them follow his lead, which is good sometimes. However, since the Minnesota game, Ed has been a complete diva and let the win get to his head, and I am hoping that isn't rubbing off on the players. That's my biggest concern. Remember, the coach from kansas was a very smart guy who rebuilt his program, but a few too many ego boosts from too many Big Macs pushed him out. I just don't want the same thing to happen to Ed. #1, what was Ed supposed to do? Of course you are going to have everyone and their dogs calling you for interviews after an upset like that. If he doesn't answer to all of them or do interviews, he will likely not get called again for anything by that station, no matter how big the win. He is just trying to promote the program which is what he should do. I really don't think they gave up in the second half. I think they more played not to lose. I really think the lines got worn down. Our defensive line is not real big and pretty young and inexperienced and got wore down I think. That is just part of it though. I think we played not to lose is the main thing. Also, way too many penalties that showed poor discipline. I would bet that won't happen this week! Ed is the CEO of the team. He is the Head Coach. He is also and X's and O's guy as well. During games, the coordinators call the plays and the defenses. But, I know for a fact that all week in preperation for each game, coaches watch a ton of film and have meetings to game plan for the upcoming game. I'm sure Ed goes through in meetings with the coaching staff what he wants run in what situations. Obviously, he will have input during games as well. I don't really think Ed having his kid on the coaching staff is that big of a deal. He is a student coach. It's not like he gave him the job because he is his son and is paying him a ton of money. Student coaches don't get paid anything, it is a good option for athletes that get hurt and cannot play anymore or choose not to play anymore. I did play college football, not at USD. Being a part of a team in college is something special. Something that unless you experience it first hand, you don't understand.

I think it goes one in the same and the recent history of coaches getting canned shows this. You have to get the wins plus you have to be able to conduct yourself off the field. There were what, three coaches who got canned last year because of conduct even though they were winning.
There are a ton of coaches who conduct themselves well and get the W's and that's something that USD can get as well. Ed can also be that guy as well, but he has to start cleaning up his act or it could catch up to him.
Iceman, I thought Ed did well in his national and local interviews, but it's when he was talking to people that he threw everything else under the bus and started throwing hissy fits around town if people didn't know him or if they didn't give him everything he wanted.
Trust me, I understand the college football atmosphere. I know a little bit more about it then you think Iceman.

There are a lot of reasons why having Reid as an assistant coach right now is a major red flag. I won't go into details (trust me, I have quite a few), but Reid has a lot of off-the-field baggage that has been swept under the rug pretty well. He needs to get stuff in his life straighten out first before he tries coaching kids his same age.
On Ed as a diva thing, there have been a couple times before the NW Okie St. game, even on Saturday, that Ed was frustrated because people didn't know who he was and that he couldn't throw his name around to get extra clout around town. Just saying...
Like I said before, I think Ed is a good coach, but he does have to watch himself a bit so he doesn't go overboard. He is getting a bit on his high horse and I don't want to see him let go because of that.

I have no problem with Reid learning the trade that his father does, and if he has no contact coaching the players, then that's definitely a good thing, not just because of Reid, but because student assistants really shouldn't have that much coaching say in football. Granted if USD isn't able to hire more assistant coaches soon......then yeah.
I have my info on Reid, and I am not willing to discuss it on a message board okay? For the sake of Reid basically... Also, I do think Reid has gotten better in this past year. Sorry if it came across that I think Reid is a bad person. I really don't. Everyone makes mistakes and learns from them and I hope Reid was able to.

Well, I hope he does get to do more than odd jobs honestly. Refer to my above post about student assistants in football. I think this is a topic that should be let alone basically. I am sorry I brought it up, but I am not moving away from anything I said before, except for the fact that I don't want to make him out to be a bad kid.

Sounds good.
I apologize if there is any disrespect to Reid or the Meierkort family. Sorry if I went too far and such, and I only wish the best in the future to Reid and them.
Let's just move on from this topic and onto UND.

I think that's a good idea. This thread is beginning to drift towards areas we don't need to go.
For what it's worth a student assistant coach is like a pack mules job. It is not fun. There are long hours doing crap work. The kid is definitely paying his dues. My old roomate was a grad assistant years ago. I got to know some of the other grad assistants. They were worked like mules and they had it better than a student assistant.
Let's move forward and talk about beating the Sioux. I can guarantee the team has put this loss in the rear view mirror and is concentrating on this Saturday.
