But I think it is a noteworthy comment from a quality source. BTW, as reported earlier, McNeese lost the Southland conference championship to ORU in front of 933 fans. I don't know if I'm reading your sentence right but we lost in the semifinal game to ORU (who eventually won the tournament title), not in the tournament finals. Doc

Please Coyote Admin can we go in another direction at broadcaster next year. I can only take so many "foooooey's" in one broadcast. Are we listening to an actual D1 team here or a broadcast of a 5th grade elementary school game. USD deserves much better. It's a good thing the team is performing much better than the radio call tonight so far. Yotes lead 43-33 with 13:26 to go in the game. Seriously, give it up coyote fan! You are in a very small minority on this. It gets old having you come on here and whine and complain about it. If you don't like his announcing, I have a simple solution. Don't listen and actually COME to a game for once. No excuses. This one was at home. You say you want someone that bleeds coyote red, he is the man for that. He is a die hard. You say he is too much of a homer? Check out the highlights on ESPN when they show top plays and have the audio of the teams radio announcers. This is college and pro teams. They are going nuts. For as much time as they spend on the road with them, they end up getting pretty close and attached. That is part of the game. RJ does a great job and I already can't wait for football season. Heck of a season for the Lady Coyotes. They were a fun team to watch.[/quo Iceman, there is no doubt our womens announcer bleeds red. There is no doubt our womens announcer truly loves the U. There is no doubt that our womens announcer is a homer. And there is no doubt our womens announcer does not represent the kind of professionalism a Division 1 womens basketball team demands. Its about the impression one gets from listening to someone like this. Listen to the competition from our counterparts up north, and there is a million light years difference. If we want to strive to be a first class D 1 womens basketball program, ALLthe pieces must fit. Sorry our current womens basketball announcer just doesn't fit.

Seems like we've discussed the announcers before, and I think that there are a lot of good announcers in the region. I don't think that there is only one model, nor is there one style that a first class D1 program demands. It comes down to effectiveness, not personality. I don't have the numbers, but I'm sure the decision-makers are looking at how does the announcer fit into the goal of drawing fans, expanding the programs and bringing in the ad revenues. History has shown that many styles and personalities have done this effectively. To use an example from years past, Vin Scully vs. Harry Caray. They certainly weren't cut from the same mold, yet both HOFers and both got results. And no offense to Tyler Merriam, or anyone else up north, but I could care less what works at SDSU or NDSU, etc. We've heard enough about their programs, it's time for USD to build USD's program, the COYOTE way!
