Who will longsnap this Saturday against Illinois.Someone new or the same player who did it last week. Not sure, don't think a change was mentioned in the coaches show last night. It'll still be a few days before the depth chart for this week comes out.

My two biggest concerns going into the game are special teams play and pass protection.
ISU runs a pressure type defense using twists and stunts on the DL frequently. They are the type of team that schemes hard to get to the QB in the attempt to either get a sack or cause a bad decision by the QB. If the USD OL can step up and give Earl the same time they gave him against UNI, I think USD rolls.
Special teams - well, we all are nervous about that. I would like to think that the long snappers are getting a few hundred practice snaps a day - eventually we should see an improvement.

. Win this one though and we're all set up for our run to the playoffs in the Dome! you guys are having a great season but I doubt you will earn a seed and get home field, unless you win out.

Not speaking for him but I think he means we have three straight home games (ysu. Montana. Sdsu) and if USD pulls out victories it should put USD in the playoffs.

Today in the coaches call Joe Glenn chuckled and said that the Dome is closed today while the team works on their new punt formation. I wonder what he is going to try to shore that situation up. It would be lovely if we could count on being able to get punts off cleanly every time, but I doubt that they can fix it if it hasn't been fixed through 7 games.
Line I see for this game is set at us being 5 1/2 point underdogs. Much better than the 27 point underdogs we were when the line came out last week.

Watched Coyote Corner last night; really like what Jay Elsen, Andre Fields, and Midco have put together there. Quality show.
One thing I rewound and watched about 4 times on the DVR from the UNI highlights were the long snaps. Once again, they were not great, but for crying out loud, when the snap hits our punter IN THE HANDS (even on a bounced snap) he's gotta catch the football and make the play. On the missed field goals, the kid didn't miss by much and he's got a huge leg. That has been evident in all of his misses so far this year. I hope he gets himself calmed down and in the zone for the rest of the season because we can't afford to be leaving 2 field goals a game off the board. FWIW, the field goal protection looks to be vastly improved up front from several weeks ago.
As for the Redbirds, I honestly feel like USD has a bit of a trap game against Illinois State this weekend. I can't believe I actually typed that, but coming off the D-Days victory folks felt that was the case against Indiana State and the Yotes rallied. I hope that happens this weekend coming off the UNI victory. In my mind, this game is the BIGGEST contest of the season so far and has the ability to be a defining moment that will dictate the tone for the remaining games on the calendar. Win and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Lose and that light becomes a full speed locomotive headed our way.
USD has yet to put together a full game, let alone a full half, of mistake free football. If they manage to do either this weekend, the Redbirds are in deep trouble. If the Yotes continue to shoot themselves in the foot, their luck could finally run out. Heart and guts have defined the last three victories. I'm hoping this weekend shows off a different side of this Coyote team.

It's Thursday afternoon and at least for me it's time to start getting fired up for this game. I just made my prediction on the ArgusLeader chat. Isn't it interesting that The Yotes are starting to show up a little bit more than usual now that The Good Guys are starting to really put things together?
Speaking of putting things together I'm seeing the Yotes taking down The Redbirds to the tune of 24 to 17, with them getting a late meaningless TD. The Thermonuclear Offense sputters a little and leaves some points on the field but The Red Missile Defense continues its stellar play. A 2nd Q. interception is turned into an easy TD and the Yotes lead 14 to 3 at the half.
So a mushroom cloud forms over the home of the 'birds' to be seen in the likes of Youngstown, Missoula, Brooksville and maybe even Fargo. I'm sure the upcoming visits to The Danger Dome will be especially unpleasant for the visitors with The Coyotes on a four game winning streak.
It will be great to see The Argus having no choice but to give The University of South Dakota its top sports coverage billing for the rest of the season. That will be pretty easy after the jackies lose at home to the 'oh so wounded' Panthers.
So Here We Go Coyotes, Here We Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe we could create a new machine called the mushroom cloud maker and name it after SD4ever.

Maybe we could create a new machine called the mushroom cloud maker and name it after SD4ever. That's an excellent idea Mr. CF. I understand from reliable sources that 'the cloud' is still hanging pretty badly over Cedar Falls. It's having a major effect on the also ran PantherNation. It will be interesting to see how they all deal with playing second fiddle to the Dakota teams from here on out. One of which will be the Yotes, in a major way. I don't see them getting much enjoyment out of The Danger Dome any time soon. Hopefully, they will have to pay a visit there next season but I don't know how the schedules work out. I guess they will have to enjoy eking out a victory over probably the most overrated FCS team in the country on Saturday. Of course, they will be back on track toward a national championship after that no matter how much they are banged up. I think I have spent too much time listening to their drivel on Pantherland since their fans had to make their zombie like exit from the unibrow dome on Saturday. LOL! On second thought we all can leave the cloud making to The Good Guys. I can't wait to watch. Go Yotes!!!!! Forever of course.

Sd4ever comes back to the board and the Yotes start winning. Coincidence? I think not. Red missile thermonuclear cloud milkshakes all around. Keep it going.

Ok it is gameday! Time to go get the birds.
Today's game will come down to which team does a better job protecting their QB on offense and pressuring the opposing QB on defense.
Colton Underwood is a Tyler Star like player. (Perhaps a step slower, but stronger). The Yotes have practiced against Starr for so long they should be ready.
Coach Spack is a fantastic coach and will use stunts, twists and blitzes to keep the Yote O-line guessing.
The Yotes cannot afford to have penalties kill drives - it was a problem during the first half last week.
Special teams - ISU has some returners with speed - need to be more disciplined running down the field in their lanes or those speedsters have potential to take it back for 6.
The kicker needs to snap out of his mental slump and the Long Snapping needs to be improved. The rumor is the short- snapper (O'Neil) will be the punt snapper. If he can get the snaps back there, I am for it. I am generally opposed to having a starting OL be a punt snapper. Two reasons: he will be a non-factor in trying to tackle the Punt returner and since he is a starting OL he will be asked to long snap immediately after an offensive series. While some may think that is no big deal, imagine a 240 pound linebacker running 8 yards and delivering a helmet to helmet hit on you right before you are asked to throw an upside-down pass between your legs with sweat-soaked hands. Harder than most think. We need a snapping specialist.

You got it all right Mr. OBC. I hope the ThermoNuclear Offense doesn't leave ANY points on the field and I hope The Red Missile Defense strikes hard and fast on the 'bird' O. A pick 6 in the 1st Q would be great. I could see a long bomb to either Terry or Donavon mixed in there too.
Bottom line, it's a big game for the Yotes. Get a win and the next 3 weeks in the Dome will be very interesting. Welcome, to The Danger Dome.
I think I'm gonna go crazy today.
Go South Dakota! Go Coyotes! Time to get on The Yote Train. I wonder where SDGuy6872, and YoteWoman are? It's time for everyone to start showing up on here.
