RedbirdTV is a joke. Yotes need to get points on the first poss. of 2nd half. If The Good Guys get down 17 or 21 I'll be pretty worried. "D" needs to hold 'em to 3 or less.

Yea, I want my money back from this RedbirdTV bunch. Not only am I pretty aggravated with the loss but the tv coverage drove me crazy.
Well, the offense pretty much fizzled and the red missile sure missed a few marks.
I'll have more thoughts and am looking forward to the aftermath on this.
Go Yotes in The Danger Dome!

The mistakes killed the Yotes today but I am not sure even playing a cleaner game would have resulted in a win. The personal fouls were ridiculous. These outdoor windy games don't bode well for the Yotes. The only way the playoffs happen now is if the Yotes run the table which would be a 1 in 500 shot. The next 3 games should be thrilling for the home fans. I do believe there is still plenty to play for. Trying for a .500 or better Valley record. Trying to knock off SDSU and Montana will be fun and certainly well worth being in attendance for. At about this time last year the Yotes were getting their tails handed to them against NDSU so they are in a much better position than they were a year ago.

Listened on the radio and then turned to the stat tracker midway through the second half...too frustrating to listen to. Seemed like the turning point in the game was Huffer's 15 yard personal foul (he's had a few of those this season----dumb, dumb, & dumb). Bergner missed another field goal. I think it was announced that he is now 6 of 14 on the year. Our #1 pass defense got burned on more than a few deep balls today. Big games from Iddings, Auston Johnson, Bredl, Guziec, and as usual Starr on defense, but frustrating day for Coyote fans. Earl moved the ball well in 2 minute drill situation, but threw late INT. Helped his numbers a bit to get him to 256 yards on 22 of 47 passing, but this one has to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Watching State battle UNI and its 28-21, UNI right now late in the 3rd.

Gee, things are pretty quiet right now. Can't say that I blame anyone. I don't feel like saying much either. Oh well, we've got all week and will need to get focused on Youngstown State.
In the mean time--
Go Coyotes!

Shouldn't the SDST/UNI score be posted somewhere else? This is a thread devoted to the ISU - Coyote game, not Bunnies and Panthers.
I'm backed to being irked. Not too many teams are going to win attempting 47 passes. I realize, of course that the Yotes were playing catch up.
Get to work Coyotes and show us this game was a fluke.

Several reasons the Redbirds beat the Coyotes Saturday.
Field Position caused by poor special teams play, bad personal foul penalties, USD OL lost their battle against the ISU Defense, USD got some pressure on their QB but not enough to prevent the long TD throws.
There were many things to walk away positive from after watching the game. USD is currently too flawed of a team to have run the table and make the playoffs even though it was fun to dream about. Hopefully the team will come back hungry to correct mistakes and get better. They have three home games left to get it done and a finale against the undisputed #1 team in FCS to show their progress. Lets hope the team stays together and improves in spite of knowing the playoff dream is dead. We will have a chance to see the character of the team on display the final weeks.
The defense had many players stepping up making big plays. Defense: Two INTs, solid LB play, Iddings is playing better all the time - I think he is an All-conference type player right now. The Interior DL are playing really well - Jacobs, Praska and Greer. Greer has really come on the last two games and using that 320 lbs to his advantage. Knox had a personal foul hit out of bounds that extended the ISU drive. They ended up punting on that drive so it wasn't a killer on the scoreboard initially, but it did give USD poor field position (started on the 8 yd line) and on that drive Meyer fumbled at the 27 setting up a TD for ISU.
On offense it starts with the OL. The twists and stunts of the redbird Defensive front caused some problems for our blockers. With more pressure Earl was unable to be as relaxed as last week and the results were mixed. He hit some fantastic throws and missed on some wide-open receivers. He did make great decisions for the most part. His scrambles were very effective at moving the chains. You can see he is going to be a good one for USD. Riley Donovan came up big again for the Yotes. He is a smaller guy and not very muscular - I am worried about his health. He was helped off the field again this game after a big hit from a ISU defender. That is two weeks in a row. Donovan did return to the game to make some big catches, but you worry when someone has a concussion and comes back.
They Yotes ended up passing so much because the run was getting shut down (OL getting beat at the point of attack). They needed to connect on more passes and that potentially would have opened up some running lanes. By the 4th Q time was running out and the only chance the Yotes had was to throw. Wilhelm at TE is a great target and is really playing well this year. His only catches came in the second half. I would want to see him getting balls thrown his way earlier. When you get TEs into the mix it forces the defense to cover the entire field and also slows down the LBers filling on the run plays since they have to make sure the LB isn't going to slip by them into a pass route. With all the man coverage the Birds were running I think it would have been there.
Roberts did a fine job filling in for Bouma this week. I have not heard how injured he is and what the injury is. Does anyone know?
The personal fouls by our left tackle need to be stopped. Glenn said after the game that if he sees that guy commit another one he will sit for a game. That player comes across as a dirty player and I don't want that on the Yote team. He needs to get control of himself and play between the whistles. Those penalties were drive stoppers
Special Teams The kicker/punter is really in a slump. Mental slumps are hard to break. Cody O'Neil stepped up and fired the punt snaps back there great. Protection on punts were good. We had another illegal procedure penalty on the punt team. The unit has problems and I hope Glenn can get it fixed. Special teams were not the single deciding factor in the game, but a meaningful factor.
Bottom line is that USD was not as good as the Redbirds Saturday.
We should feel good going into YSU. They will throw multiple balls over our heads and see if our D backs can make plays. My guess is our D backs will want to come back strong and show they are the top notch pass defense they have been billed as. The Yote defense will need to get pressure on their QB and contain a very good RB.
Offense is up to the OL in my opinion. If they control the line of scrimmage, everything else will roll for the team.
Special teams - I feel a lot better knowing that we have a long snapper. Time for the kicker to be the guy he was recruited to be.
Will be an awesome game - get your friends there to support the Yotes. A good environment will help.
Go Yotes!

I think OBC's analysis is pretty accurate. I would probably respectively disagree with him on the statement that we just aren't as good as ISU yet. Two things buried any chance of winning the game yesterday. Once again, special teams wreaked havoc with the results of the game. Our kicker is in a slump, but quite frankly, he has been somewhat lucky on his punts when he did get them off, because the were low missile like punts that hit the ground and rolled and rolled. He missed a reasonable field goal yesterday, and there were no excuses this time. The snap was perfect. To be fair, the wind was swirling some, and there was a pretty good wind speed, but if you are going to be successful, you need to make those kicks.
When it comes time to do anything special teams, any fan that knows football just has to hold their breath and pray like hell we don't screw up. Field position was a killer yesterday, and again, that was due to lack of special teams performance. Like OBC said, he just needs to get his confidence and I think he will be ok.
Roberts did a good job yesterday. He isn't Bouma, but he wasn't bad. Bouma had a possible concussion Wednesday night in practice when Tyler hit him during drills. I Lso noticed from the stands that we winced a lot yesterday like he had back issues, or a pinched nerve, or something like that. He was constantly doing different stretches like he was uncomfortable. I thought Earl did a respectable job yesterday. He threw into coverage a few times, but I think he was just trying to make a play. Terry dropped a couple of balls that would have over the chains as well.
It the biggest problem, other than special teams, is the lack of discipline on our team. We make the absolute stupidest penalties that constantly kill our team,- and Gus by chance to win the game. #70 had 2 personal foul penalties yesterday that killed us. Then in the 4th quarter, when we we making a run at them, down 28-14, Earl scrambled to the ISU 25 with 8 plus minutes to play, holding was called on 72. To me, that was the back breaker. Had we scored, we had all the momentum, and were in a position to finish much like the UNI game. That call was huge.
At the end the day, if you're reasonable, you have to be disappointed we lost to them, because it was a winnable game. Just like Western Illinois, this was a game on the road that now we know we should have won, but we didn't. Are we a playoff team yet? I don't think so. Are we close? Closer than last year, but probably a couple of years out. But we are no longer the doormat, a severe team that plays us knows they have been in a dogfight. The ISU coach tipped his hat to our defense yesterday. A break here and there, and we come home winners. I think they have the moxie to keep fighting, and I think they are still holding onto the playoff hope should they win out, and frankly I would agree. But I don't think we are ready to compete with NDSU yet. That would be a fluke, but one never knows, stranger things have happened.
My view in walking out of there is we were on equal footing. We execute better overall, but special teams and lack of discipline brings us down. We got away with it the prior 3 weeks, but not yesterday. I think we an beat Youngstown if we play pretty much error free ball.
Go Yotes
