Note: Ruthie Loomis-C was one of over a hundred likes on Grace's tweet that she is staying, (including Coach Gravina at WIU). And it's only been up for less than an hour and a half!
Also, Gabby Wilke liked several of the other tweets.
Also Hannah Coons has liked some recent USD tweets, including the signing of Viki today.
... I think we might be in good shape in terms of keeping things relatively together? (knock on wood)

Some highlights for Viki. Looks like she can hit from outside, and is pretty aggressive and crafty when driving.

I almost see that as a dig at Idaho, TBH

So some players are now tweeting out that they are staying at USD, in a similar way that the Idaho transfers were tweeting that they were still planning to come there. (they are official tweets from USD) Players committing to stay so far (in no particular order): ... .... .... .... ALL OF THEM

On the chart, you have our new signee, Matulevicius, listed at 5’8”. However, according to FIBA, she is 5’11. I thought she looked taller than 5’8 in her social media posts….. I tend to go by what USD lists when in doubt. In their recent announcement, they are calling her a 5-8 Guard. PrepGirlsHoops also says 5-8, and I usually go by them if there is nothing official from the school yet. Not sure why FIBA was so far off the mark.

Viki Signed: interesting that Gabby Johnson is the only Coyote staff member following her on twitter. I realize that's not very official, or anything. But Coach E and Devin E follow a TON of recruits that we also follow. That level of overlap is really a good thing, I think. She is dialed into the top recruits in the region. Also, I'll say that I recently saw a like of one of USD's tweets about Coach E from Gabby Wilke. Maybe that's a good sign.

Aren’t there three freshmen coming in? I thought so dak kid, Wisconsin kid and one from St. Louis area. Yes, you can find the spreadsheet I keep updated on the first post of this thread. I’ve got all the players on the roster, signed or verbal commits, kids with offers, and I make an attempt to show kids we are interested in, but that’s almost impossible to know perfectly. If you click on the year, it links to the recruiting thread for each class.

Looks like her husband, Devin, was her "recruiting coordinator" at Idaho.
Other Assistants at Idaho: 1. Associate HC Arthur Moreira - new on the staff, was previously a Recruiting coord at San Francisco for 7 years (west coast recruiting connections?) 2. Drew Muscatell had been with the Idaho program for 5 years prior. He is described as having "deep recruiting ties in the Pacific Northwest" - I could see Coach E keeping Mike on for similar reasons? 3. DBO Bailey Morris - was with Coach E at Kearney for 5 years as assistant. Guessing she comes to USD as DBO or assistant (was at DWU for a year) 4. GA Lily Gustafson - originally from Washington
So I'm going to guess that in addition to Devin, Bailey comes with her. Moreira and Muscatell seem to have more ties with the west coast and PNW areas. Muscatell may even be a candidate for the vacant Vandal position?
So that opens up a couple of AC spots, maybe she keeps Mike, and adds one new coach?

another update - removed Nat. I have a feeling that all of the recruiting threads are about to be needing massive revisions with different girls being looked at......
maybe I'll not do that today....
Looks like we have three open roster spots presently.

Hell, might as well do a transcript for this one, too... Coach P: "Coyote Nation, good to see you again! Just wanted to let you know, I've had a chance to get to know Coach Eighmey over the course of the past few years, both as a coach and as a recruiter. I think you are absolutely going to love getting to know her and her staff." "Now, Coach Eighmey: Something YOU need to be aware of: Coyote Nation is incredible. The fans have this energy and enthusiasm, they will support women's basketball at such a high level. What YOU need to be prepared for is the Sanford Coyote Sports Center to get loud. What a great atmosphere to be a part of for college women's basketball. Wishing you all the best."

Great KRVN (Nebraska radio station) interview with Eighmey about her becoming the new USD coach. Nice find! Here's an abbreviated transcript, for anyone that would rather read it: On the opportunity that USD represents:CE: "Obviously, the timing was a bit surprising for us, as we've only been out at Idaho for a year, but... like you said, it's one of those opportunities that we've wanted for a long time. Having been in the Midwest, and at Kearney for so many years, we've kind of had a front-row seat to the (USD) program, and just had a ton of respect for the success there, and the environment, and the support they have for women's basketball. So we're super excited about the opportunity! Obviously, moving back home to the Midwest is also something we're really really excited about." On being a candidate for the same job two years ago:"Obviously, the administration is different than was there last time, so that was a little bit new, but the familiarity with South Dakota, their campus... all the details that you need to be familiar with when you go into an interview, ... I felt like I was way more prepared this time around..." On what she learned at Idaho that will help in Vermillion:"Yeah, obviously it was a very quick experience, but I feel like I learned so much about running a Division 1 program. I feel like on the coaching part... basketball is basketball, and coaching is coaching. I felt like I was pretty comfortable in that regard. But really, for us, you are growing a staff from three to six people, and learning how to utilize all of those staff members, so you are maximizing their talents, and being able to maximize what you can do with your team and your program. so, I just learned a ton about managing a bigger staff, and managing lots more resources, and lots more people involved in your program... learning how to delegate, and making sure on a day-to-day basis you are putting your program in the best position to be successful." On moving back to the Midwest:"It's fantastic. We couldn't have picked a better place or a better opportunity. South Dakota is a job I've wanted for a really long time. It's truly an honor and a privilege to get this opportunity. We're super excited to get to work, and get back to South Dakota..." On hearing from family and friends in Nebraska:"It's just really special to hear from so many people. They're really excited to have us closer. Especially with my parents. For most of my career, they've been just down the road. So this is really exciting for our family.... my phone has been very busy for the last couple of days... I'm super grateful. The Midwest is a special place, as well, in the basketball world. It's a pretty small world. We've definitely felt the love..."

OK, tried to update our recruiting/roster matrix. I removed portal kids, and added portal kids, and moved Eberwein and Hayes down a class (redshirted)....
I have both Forte and Bullock as Juniors next season, since they both played as freshmen in that 2020-21 season that the NCAA isn't counting toward eligibility, and would be entitled to play an extra year. I have no idea if that is where Coach Pete will put them or not.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Still have an open scholarship with Kramer jumping in the portal. Wonder if they will award the schollie to Burchill rather than going portal shopping again?
I think someone mentioned either Kokal or Anderson in the Freshman class might be a walk-on? Or both? Kokal was added last, so I'd guess that's him.

Bummer. Well, at least we now have a coach, so we will see if Coach E tries to get her back in the fold, or prefers to get her own players in. At the end of the day it’s now her team, and her vision.
If Nat is part of that vision, Coach will let her know. I’m at peace with whatever happens.

Four of the seven Idaho transfers have tweeted out a graphic saying "still a Vandal." Aadland, Nelson, Schweizer, and Hassman. Well, that leaves: 6-3 Soph Forward Ruthie Lomis (CU) 5-10 Jr Guard Anja Bukvic (LA Tech) 6-0 Sr Guard Tyler McCliment (SFA) And for the record, I have zero problem with sniping transfers from Idaho. Their AD has mishandled a situation in Women’s Volleyball with a terrible abusive coach who she failed to protect the players from. More interested in protecting the Vandals admin than the players. Screw them.

I think this was a position of need, so we will have two setters on the roster each year. AVH is a stud, but players get injured sometimes. Looks like her blocking and serving are good, too. That bodes well for playing time, even when not setting. JMO. Tall Setters are a luxury for a mid-major team, at any rate. Great get
