Meeting with Jech in person twice in like two weeks? Smith must want him bad! That and they lost out on Miller who visited with Jech. Also, Jech recently stated in some form of social media that he would be committing to a "Dakota" school soon. We can't lose two 6'9" guys to NDSU. Just out of curiosity, are you sure it was Jech who said something? I saw this from Northstar Hoops Report's Alex Conover a couple of days ago: But I didn't realize Jech had said something as well. As I recently mentioned over on the NDSU forum, I could see why USD would be an appealing choice for Jech, particularly now that Miller has committed to NDSU. I would imagine his competition for minutes will look slightly different in Vermillion compared to Fargo, particularly with the Coyote roster featuring a couple of the 2-year JUCO kids Coach Smith is bringing in to get things moving right out of the gate for you guys. As it stands now, with those JUCO transfers graduating in two years, Jech would have a pretty good shot at being a starting big man for the Yotes by his sophomore year (depending on what talent Smith brings in before then, obviously). Are any of your young bigs good enough to be impact players by their junior/senior years? I don't know much about your roster, I'm just working off of the assumption that, based on the praise he's been getting online, Jech would come in and be a pretty solid player for the Yotes right out of the gate. But, for all I know, you guys might already have a couple of freshman/sophomore studs and I'm just not paying close enough attention.

It was passed on to me through an email. I suspect you are correct. I can't seem to find anything like that from Jech himself. Good catch.
Another thing to keep in mind, Jech did tell Jeremy Hoeck that he was looking for a good business school. That has got to play in the favor of USD.
Also, in my opinion, we are severely lacking for more big men on the roster.

If he is really looking hard for a good business school that is great for a couple reasons. 1) He is looking to be a student athlete, not just an athlete and 2) Who in the area has a better business school than USD? Both academics and facilities are top notch at the Beacom School of Business, an excellent choice for anyone who wants to study Business.

Looks like Craig Smith got a stellar recruit committed yesterday in 6 foot 8 Tyler Hagedorn from Norfolk. He is coached by a former Yote, Ben Ries, and says he had interest from 3 other Summit teams

Here is an article I found from Nebraska Preps about his commitment: nebraskahshoops.com/tyler-haredorn-south-dakota/ Claims offers from UNO, Denver, Lehigh, Marist and NDSU.

I just talked to a friend of mine with ties to Nebraska. He is familiar with Tyler. Although he admits some bias, he believes Tyler is an absolute steal for USD. He figures to be a 4/PF in the Summit, but he is versatile and will be a match-up nightmare because he can shoot well from all over the court. Because their are so many undersized kids in NE preps, he plays almost exclusively in the post, but he is capable of much more. There are a couple clips where you can see his outside shot and solid ball handling. He thinks he needs to add about 25 lbs to his frame, but he is one of those kids that will do whatever he is asked by the coaches. Luckily he has his senior year to keep growing and he has already mentioned his desire to start working with the USD training staff to get into shape.

By his film he looks smooth out on the court and deceivingly quick in his movements. Should be a nice player for the Yotes down the road.

Keep up the good work Coach Smith and the rest of the Coyote BasketBall Program! This alum believes there are exciting times ahead. I can't wait to go to Sioux Falls(The Diamond of The Dakotas) to watch you WIN a Summit League Title in that gorgeous new Sanford Events Center. sdsu isn't the only team in the great State of South Dakota.

Deng Geu has verbally committed to play next year for NDSU! I think USD and SDSU both offered, very athletic forward. The Bison will reload quickly with the 2 post players in this years class. Let's hope they don't land Dan Jech too, could be a major blow for the coyotes if they do.

Rivals showed interest from both USD and SDSU, but that only SDSU had offered. Paul Seville tweeted that SDSU dropped interest to focus on guards in 2015 class.

I had never heard that we offered Geu. That isn't meant to take anything from him, but I think our focus has been elsewhere. Technically, we are full for 2015, I think. However, I would be pretty surprised if there weren't some more defections by the end of the season. It is just a given that this happens before and after the first season when a new staff comes to town.
Assuming we are still going after Jech, that definitely makes me feel better about our chances.
I am going to be watching Geu closely this year. I didn't hear a ton about him last season, but then heard his name a ton this summer. It will be interesting to see how he has progressed.

Not sure if Geu was offered or not but I did get a chance to watch him and he is similar to an athletic treyvon wright but not as skilled yet. Hopefully Jech is still in mind. Defections?? How many more can we lose?

Geu is an athlete, long limbs, runs the floor well. Shoots it okay. He is certainly a project but one thing you can not teach is height and length. Combine that with his athleticism he has a chance to be pretty good in a couple of years
