Jeremy Hoeck just tweeted that Dan Jech has committed to USD! Craig Smith is putting together one heck of a recruiting class in an extremely short amount of time!
Jech had offers from about 7 other D1 schools, including some pretty good programs in NDSU, Green Bay, and Lehigh, as well as Montana State, New Hampshire, Lafayette, and Wofford. You can see Smith's value as a recruiter when we beat out those first three schools for a recruit.

Jech will be great in the red and white! When Geu committed to NDSU I knew we had a great shot, didn't think the Bison could take all 3 big guys. Let's hope he turns out as good as the last big we had from Rochester!

Geu vs Jech will be interesting for years to come. NDSU moved onto JT Gibson after getting Geu, so hopefully that works out for us.

J.T. Gibson will also be an interesting recruiting battle. He has offers from UNO, Ill. St., USD, NDSU, SDSU, and UND, among others. It looks like he has only visited UNO, NDSU and SDSU.
Based on the count from Verbal Commits, it appears that USD may be full - but I am not sold on their numbers. The limit in D-1 is 13.
We presently have 16 players on the roster. 3 seniors; 9 juniors (!); 1 sophomore; and 3 freshman. Logan Power is a walk on. I don't know who the other two are. VC only shows Logan as a walk-on, saying we are 2 over the limit, which I am sure is not the case.
It may be possible that at least one of the walk-ons has be promised a scholarship in the future, if he makes it. Otherwise, with 3 seniors, then we may have one more open scholarship for 2015.
Edson Avila is a RS this year as a transfer, as is Zach Dickerson, which may be our 2 outliers. I thought I heard once that Dickerson was walking on for this season, but I can't find confirmation.
It is unclear whether Edson is a 3 for 2 guy or a 2 for 2 guy, meaning he would either have 2 years of remaining eligibility after sitting out this season or 1. So, unless another junior is going to redshirt, assuming Edson will come out of his RS remaining a junior, we will have 8 spots to fill in 2016. That is a HUGE number in college basketball. If another junior redshirts, it will only be 7. If Edson still loses a year and is a senior after his RS, then we will have 9 to fill!
I don't envy the work that Smith and Co. will have to put into the 2016 class. I suspect he will pull a page from the Tim Miles playbook and build a class of at least 5 that are united for success, similar to NDSU's first NCAA Tourney team with Woodside and Co.

Its been reported that Gibson has narrowed his choices to USD, SDSU, UNO, and NDSU. He visited NDSU this past Saturday and is done taking visits. Should be interesting which route he goes but he will for sure be playing in the Summit League.

I am quite surprised he picked UNO over one of the Dakotas. UNO isn't eligible for the Summit autobid yet, but I got a feeling they will be fighting for it as soon as they are allowed to. I've been impressed with UNO in the Summit this far, they look like they're going to be great for the conference moving forward

At least I believe they are. Location and new arena will propel UNO way faster than most may think.

They didn't begin their transition until the fall of 2012, so they have to wait until the fall of 2017 before they are eligible for postseason play. I thought it was sooner than that too honestly

So, he would either play on an eligible team as a true sophomore or RS and play for 4 years, right? I might be off here, but I think it means this is the 14/15 season, but the 15 tournament - he will still be a HS senior. So, 15/16 (Fr) then 16/17 (So or RSFr) would be the 17 tournament? It would be a good sales pitch anyway. Help us open our new stadium and be the centerpiece of our first tournament team...
Assuming everything holds together, the Summit will be pretty sweet by that time. A 10 team league, new facility for the tournament in the DSPC, several schools with new or renovated facilities, etc.
