In Women's action
Wow Oral Roberts beat NDSU 67-41. I am sure glad USD is done with them. SDSU has to go to Oral Roberts this weekend.
Denver is leading SDSU 40-35 just a couple of minutes into the second half. If SDSU just picks up one loss other than the game against USD the Coyotes could still win the conference outright if they run the table in all the other games aside from the SDSU game.
The bad news is that USD still has to go to Denver.

66-56 Denver with 4:15 to go in the game. This could be huge for the Coyotes.

Final
SDSU 72 Denver 77
South Dakota now has it's cushion of a 2 game lead that it has been looking for. What a huge assist by the Pioneers tonight. The Yotes need to take this conference title home.

Final SDSU 72 Denver 77 South Dakota now has it's cushion of a 2 game lead that it has been looking for. What a huge assist by the Pioneers tonight. The Yotes need to take this conference title home. Tough to win with 2 starters out on the road (Waytashek, Stevens ; 3 counting Boever). The Mitchell Kernels (Miller 30 ; Young 17) combined for 47 of the teams 72 points. The team shot like 35%. It was an ugly game. USD should be able to wrap up the 1 seed and SDSU should be the #2 seed if Waytashek come back within the next couple of games.

It was kind of bad timing for SDSU to be without some of their better players. They probably could have survived being shorthanded had they been at home but at Denver and at Oral Roberts is a tough enough tandom where missing players can prove fatal. The Oral Roberts game is going to be tough. The Coyotes got smashed in that arena when they were full strength but that was probably their worst game of the year. The Jacks will really need to play one of their best games to keep their small conference title hopes alive.

Yes, it is tough to win on the road with everybody healthy let alone with starters not playing. With that being said, I have never heard Amy Williams use that an excuse for losing a game. If she has, I stand corrected.

If she has, I stand corrected. I agree with you and I think AJ does, too. In the post game he said that they still could have won the game they just needed to make more shots. They had chances and just didn't cash them in. I look at it like USD's football team. I don't know what coach Glenn said but there were people taking about USD's running backs being injured they last two seasons, too. It just gives fans something to talk about. You hope that you can get through the season without injuries but that doesn't happen very often (especially in football). I just hope that the two players that were starters this year can come back by tournament time. If they do, it should still be a SDSU/USD championship game but if they don't, it will be much tougher. I'm sure the other two are out for they year.

If she has, I stand corrected. Coaches will never use injuries as an excuse. And it shouldn't be used as one ever. AJ has always used the "next person up" mentality. Looking back at last season their was obliviously a difference with the Yotes when Seekamp went down for a length of time. I'm kinda looking at that situation like the one the Jacks are in now. Hopefully bot Stevens and Waytashek (Hemiller for that matter) all come back the last week of the season (or sooner if possible) and are healthy enough to play in Sioux Falls. I can't remember the last time a SDSU women's basketball team 4 players out with injuries, 3 starters and 1 back-up post player.

I too want Hemiller and all of the SDSU players back so both teams can be full strength for the tournament. It just makes for better basketball and better for the state of SD. I do not want SDSU fans to take this the wrong way because it is not meant to be malicious just my opinion. SDSU has not really had to deal with injuries for mens and womens basketball and football for that matter like USD has the last couple years. A lot of the success SDSU has had is having healthy players all year for the most part. They were never on a 4th string RB or down to 10 players on their basketball roster. Yes there were some injuries like Sumner but they have been D1 long enough to have more talent built up in reserve spots and benefited from being established programs. When State fans held the regular season crown over USD last year they did not take into account Seekamp's absence attributing to their title. They just wanted to point out how much more important the regular season title was to the tourney title. Likewise 2 years ago when the USD women only had 10 active players on their roster and still lost in the championship game of the tourney to State buy a couple points. They did not take the Yotes depleted roster that year to helping their road to the regular season title easier or defeating them in the championship game by a small margine easier.

Injuries are a part of any sport. Whats the argument here-who can make more excuses for injuries or? I dont get it. Do agree it would be nice to see both teams healthy. An all South Dakota Final would be best case for the league and tourney.

Tonights games
Women
South Dakota State at Oral Roberts at 7PM
That is the only game on tap in the Summit but it is one that will be closely followed. Oral Roberts might actually be the favorite in this game.
