Half-time of the SDSU v. Miami game and San Diego State is staying close. (Sorry SVP moment there)
I love that the female announcer, Mary Murphy (?), has now said MULTIPLE TIMES during the game that SDSU upset South Dakota to win the Summit League Tournament after South Dakota won the regular season.
What I do not love is that the ESPN intern running the stats for the game is streaming an erroneous by-line noting this is the 7th straight NCAA tournament for SDSU. Seems they forgot USD tourney appearance against Stanford two years ago. Oh well, what can you expect from an outfit that still calls SDSU San Diego State? =)

UNI beat Drake last night so a win against Minnesota would mean a rematch with UNI.

BTN Plus is all I am told, 2:00 PM. Won't matter to me as we are headed to Sally's to pregame in an hour and off to the Barn after that.

I read the article and gave Matt props for it. Pretty sad we have to get a nice article from State's beat writer. Sure beats anything Garry writes about the U.

I read the article and gave Matt props for it. Pretty sad we have to get a nice article from State's beat writer. Sure beats anything Garry writes about the U. It's amazing that Mick Garry has followed the Coyotes for a few years now since they have been in the Summit. Matt Zimmer has followed the Jacks for what, one year. It seems like Matt knows about 10 times more about the league than Mick does when they have live chats together. Mick does the Coyote beat because he has to. Matt and Terry do/did the Jacks beat because they want to. Matt Zimmer has better takes on the Coyotes than Mick does and he probably knows just as much about them as well. Mick just nods and agrees with Zim whenever he says something. Let Mick head the sports writing at the Centerville Times.

USD has always been on the short end of press coverage from the Argus. It goes back years. The only time we grab the headlines is when we do something like win a tournament or conference title. The cure to all of that is winning number one. Secondly, an enthused fan base that backs their team also generates increased coverage because the newspaper perceives a lot of people are into the sport or program. Let's be honest with ourselves, we don't have a fan base that gets excited to be a part of Coyote athletics on a regular basis. Sure, when we play SDSU or the women play in the Sweet 16 of the NIT, yeah, then we get pumped up. But when we play IPFW in mid January, we are hard pressed to get 1000 people at the game, even if it has playoff implications. My hope is the new arena provides us one last chance to turn this thing around. A new football staff that knows how to win, a women's basketball program that is damned good, and a men's basketball program that I hope is on the mend starting next year. All good reasons to jump on board and get involved.
Regarding Mick, I know many don't like his style or depth, however you want to say it, but I don't think it's fair or just to say he doesn't get or care about USD. I respectfully disagree. Mick is a good man, that truly wants to see the Coyotes succeed. Does he have to cover the Coyotes? Probably. Does he like covering the Coyotes? Truthfully, I think he does. The problem lies within the decision makers at the Argus that refuse to give the Coyotes the same due as the Jacks. It's sort of like Iowa and Iowa State with the Des Moines register. The Hawks get all the prime coverage, and the Cyclones get what's left.
In closing, I will repeat something I said a very long time ago. To hell with the Argus. If I was AD, I would get very close to the Sioux City Journal and Yankton Press. Let the Argus do their thing, take whatever they give us, no expnd our media coverage in the other outlets I have identified. I know 2 of the writers at the SC Journal, and they are very hungry to cover USD in a bigger way, but they feel like people still go to the Argus. If you live in or around SF I get it. But anywhere south and southeast, I don't. It's kinda like all the complaining about Scheels not carrying a variety of USD gear. It's simple, don't do business there. Support the retailers that do carry the line. Vote with your checkbook. Same with the media.
