Hurst is greatly undersized whenever he drives the lane, as are a couple others, but that has not stopped them from making plays and drawing fouls off the glass.

I'm just saying there's a definite physical difference. That's all. One measurement you can't take is heart. If we win , that's how we win it.

George Mason just edged out Kent State 79-75. It would appear on the bottom half of the bracket that GM, Kent State and the Coyotes are all fairly equal. This tourney has become and pretty much always was the Houston Invitational and USD it climbing mount everest tonight. I think the Yotes will fight hard but it certainly appears that the Cougars are a fringe top 25 type team. Gotta go with Houston tonight 89-75. Better than George Mason but not quite enough. If the D end has any weaknesses we will certainly find out tonight. If we have any weaknesses at all it will be found out tonight.

I love how this team is playing with so much confidence this year. usdtator & yoteforever, love seeing our guys going aggressively to the hole this year! (Even if they're little, lol. But damn have you seen the hops on Hurst?) It sounds like Houston is a good team. Today should be a nice test to see if we can hang with a high-mid. It will be good to see how the Yotes weather some adversity. Hopefully we can carry that confidence into this game and not be intimidated. Go get 'em Yotes!

FWIW, Houston was picked 4th in the AAC (with UCONN's struggles, you can probably move them up to 3rd). Phi Slamma Jamma is favored by 13, which is interesting since their average margin of victory so far is 38 points.

87-73 Vermont over Hofstra and they advance to the finals. I am now not the only Coyote Fan that wants the Coyotes and Vermont to square off. I have a feeling it will be Hofstra. If it is them I would say the Coyotes have at least a break even chance in that one. Vermont was up by about 20 for quiet awhile so they were impressive. If the Coyotes play them they would have to beat Houston so their chances of beating the Catamounts would go up quite a bit. As it stands now I would have to give Vermont the edge.
Keys tonight. Just make Houston shoot over the Yotes and not let the Cougars get around them for easy baskets and definitely not allow easy transition layups and dunks. The Coyotes will have to make their outside shots. This would be a good time to try to fee Mooney and let him bomb away from outside. Maybe one of those memorable nights where he goes 10 for 15 from three. I think it is a must that USD guards play Houston to no worse then a draw because I believe Houston's front court is going to win that battle. The battle for loose balls and/or the energy moments also need to go to the Coyote red.

13-2 Houston but it really isn't anything like one would think. The Coyotes are ice cold and it's more to do with them just missing their shots vs just simply being overwhelmed by the Cougars. Athletically the Coyotes actually match up fairly nicely. This lead is definitely more about the shots just happened to all be falling for the same team. I don't think this game is over by any means.

Wonder if TBM or Dickerson noticed the game started?

39-30 Houston at half. I have now had a chance to see the Coyotes matched up on the same court with what we know is a good team in Houston. I came away after watching the first 20:00 minutes impressed with the Coyotes. When watching these two teams standing next to each other and going at it I didn't come away with the impression that the Coyotes were significantly over matched by this Houston team. Maybe if I was sitting court side I would have a different impression but from the video I didn't see a big different in talent. There was a slight different but not a huge difference. They definitely belong on the same court with this team. So by default, YES this Coyote team is more talented then they were before and maybe it took them being on the same court with a team like Houston for me to realize it.
I was impressed with the overall competitiveness that the Coyotes played with. Houston I thought actually played pretty well and did have good hustle themselves. Flack doesn't take a back seat to the guys on the Cougars. I believe the primary difference in the game so far was that Houston just happened to come out with a bit better scoring touch whereas the Coyotes were cold coming out of the gate. Since the first 5:00 or so the game has been very even. I was also impressed with the Coyotes defense as well. They made Houston have to earn their points and made them score over them so I can't fault the Yotes for that.
I think the Coyotes can continue to be competitive in the second half and I see no reason if the team plays well that they can at least keep this to a single digit game the whole way through it.

58-43 Houston at the under 12:00 timeout. Damn those Cougars are good. Knowles isn't your average Summit League type player. He is tall and talented and hard to deal with. I don't consider the conference that Houston is a mid major. I consider them more of a lower high major. It will be interesting so see how they do in their conference this year. The Yotes are battling but Houston just doesn't give up much.

Yotes can't buy a basket tonight... I reiterate what I said earlier, physically we are not outmatched, but our shooting has been Antarctica cold...

Houston's height has kept us out of the inside and we have taken way too many 3's.

We had a lot of open shots even on the inside tonight that we couldn't make fall... Our cold shooting killed us.
