That could have gone better. Made a bunch of mistakes and could not buy a three (finished 2-21 from 3). Houston is likely the 2nd best team we will face this year, Gonzaga being 1st, and I felt we had a gameplan that gave us a chance. We lost by 27 but there are positives to take away.

Damn Houston is good. 85-58 is the final. Credit the Cougars as they have kicked everybody's asses that they have played. This team sure seems to be on a mission and maybe they want to make sure they are at at large tourney team this year. I don't remember them taking a minute off for the entire night. They just come at ya constantly.
The Coyotes did practically everything they could do and hung for quite awhile, certainly longer than George Mason did, but when a team doesn't let up on you the level of play will eventually fade and the Coyotes finally realized that they were in a losing battle. The beginning of the end seemed to be the 3 pointer plus one. After that point Houston never looked back. Hopefully the Coyotes saved enough energy for Hofstra tomorrow and good luck to Vermont as they will need it and plenty of it.
I have personally never seen a Summit League team as good as Houston.

Yotes can't buy a basket tonight... I reiterate what I said earlier, physically we are not outmatched, but our shooting has been Antarctica cold... I personally credit Houston a ton in this game and don't really fault the Yotes for much tonight. They aren't just good but they play hard pretty much the entire game. I wish them the best of luck and will be keeping an eye on their progress this year. I think at the beginning of the game the cold shooting did hurt but the Yotes were able to get past it and still stay in the game. Eventually the Coyotes couldn't keep up their level of play and I don't blame them because it turned into an onslaught.

I am not quite ready to call Gonzaga better just yet. They may end up being better but I was very impressed with Houston tonight and they play in a better conference as well.

Smith isn't very giddy tonight to say the least but I think he knows what the Yotes were going against tonight. He is saying that we will now find out about the team's toughness going into tomorrow. He thinks there was too much one on one tonight. Smith also thinks Houston is going to have a good chance to get an at large bid to the NCAA Tourney. Smith wanted to come down here for the good competition.
I think this game was a valuable experience for the Coyotes to learn from and I will say that I love this kind of a tourney format and I hope the Coyotes try to get in this type of a tourney every year. This has been a lot of fun to follow with one more game yet to go. I like it because if ya win you play another winner and if ya lose you play another loser. It's hard to go too far one way or the other because of a team like Houston but if it goes the wrong way there is always a Wofford to give one a good chance to pick up a W. Nothing against Wofford but they just happen to be playing in the 7th vs 8th place game.

I wasn't able to watch the game at all, and can't find a gamer story. Was it a blow-out from the start, Houston's size/skill wore them down late, etc? It's certainly OK for a young team to get their rear-ends handed to them by a good team early in the year - should give them a pretty good idea of how they need to play. Just curious if they competed or were overwhelmed. Will also be interesting to see how/if they bounce back today.

I was at the game and we were down 11 immediately. Went more than 5 minutes at the start without scoring. We got it back to 35-30 with a little over a minute to go 1st half but gave up 2 late buckets to be down 9 at half.
We shot poorly but a lot of that had to do with their size. We gave up 4-5" per man on the front court. Houston shot 3's really well but it's because we were trying to front their bigs and they kicked it back out. Houston is just better than we were. Kelvin Sampson is the coach. He coached at Oklahoma and Indiana but was fired for NCAA violations.
I think we will beat Hofstra tonight. Game is at 4 cst. Our guys play hard. The other thing has been some very questionable calls. The refs certainly set the tone in the 2nd half. They didn't cost us the game but did take us out of our play early in 2nd half. I don't think the game would've gotten as out of hand as it did. Just my perspective. Craig was totally baffled at several calls. Oh well.
If we win tonight we leave here 2-1 and I would've taken that before it started. Go Yotes

I caught most of the game. We were something like 2 or 3 for 21 from 3-point range and could never get into a rhythm offensively. Didn't just miss from downtown, we also missed a lot of close open looks too. Anytime we drew close in the first half, Houston would hit a 3 or would get an and 1 opportunity on a Yote foul. Couple that with the fact that Houston is a good team and we're still young and it made for a long night. Houston has some talent and they shot the ball really well. Teams have off shooting nights and this was one of them for the Yotes. Hoping we bounce back, learn from this loss, and get a win over Hofstra.

I watched on the computer. It appeared that Houston's defense was very good. Most of our threes were challenged and not exactly open shots. When we drove the basket they were also very good at drawing offensive fouls. On their offensive end they shot 3s well and were very hard to handle with quick drives to the basket. Credit our guys for hanging tough until well into 2nd half when they got 3 followed by a 4, etc and their D kept us from scoring. It was tough too we got 4 fouls on them early in the 2nd to 0 for us and they still got to 10 fouls sooner than we did and shot 16-19 FTs.

Totally lost at keeping up...putting scores on wrong teams side, late, etc

This isn't the Hofstra teams of a few years ago that struggled mightily to get their win totals to double digits, but I still like our chances today. Pretty cool that this tournament was a chance to play three teams that USD has never played before.

Seems to me that the bottom bracket was stacked relative to the top (by pure randomness). GM & KSU already won, Houston will win tonight, and I like the Yotes chances too. Although Hofstra is favored by 3...
