Also worth noting after IPFW beat NDSU we are back into 2nd place. We are currently one of 6 teams with 3 losses in the Summit League. You mean after NDSU beat IPFW?

Based on tie breakers these would be the first round matchups in Sioux Falls if the season ended today.
Saturday
(8) Oral Roberts vs (1) NDSU (7) Western Illinois vs (2) USD
Sunday
(6) IUPUI vs (3) Denver (5) UNO vs (4) Fort Wayne
If there was ever a perfect bracket for the Coyotes this would be pretty much it. The Coyotes would avoid NDSU, Fort Wayne and Omaha until the final and get teams that all have to travel aways to get to the tourney and teams that the Coyotes have already defeated once. Of course there is a certain team that would be nowhere to be found.
On the Women's side everyone has played 8 conference games except USD and NDSU who square off tomorrow night. Assuming USD wins here are the matchups for the Women if the season ended after tomorrow.
Saturday
(8) Denver vs (1) USD (7) NDSU vs (2) SDSU
Sunday
(6) Omaha vs (3) IUPUI (5) Oral Roberts vs (4) Western Illinois
These would be nearly the same matchups as last year. USD definitely has a tough road to hoe to keep the #1 seed as they still have to play road games against the 2,3 and 4 teams in the conference. If the Coyotes lose in Frost they would slip behind the Jacks but if the Yotes could gain one game the rest of the way on them a tie breaker senario seems to play into the Coyotes hands. If the head to head is tied the next tiebreaker is record vs the highest team in the standings not involved in the head to head matchup. Since the Coyotes lost to NDSU it is better if the Bison continue to lose because if the Jacks lost to a higher up seed such as IUPUI and the Coyotes would happen to beat them the Coyotes could slip into a better position for the tie breaker assuming the head to head is tied, such as with the Jacks. This senario also plays out the same for the men. On the men's side the Coyotes need to beat Denver to stay ahead of them and sweep the head to head. If they don't then Denver is in a good position in the tie breaker with a win already against NDSU.
If "if ands or buts" were candy and nuts, well we know the saying.

^^ Good stuff, CF. For the women, it would be nice to finish the regular season #1 for the third consecutive time, but as long as we end up in the top 2, we will have the best shot at getting to the title game for the fifth consecutive time (longest active streak).

Really good night for the Coyotes tonight. IUPUI won at Omaha which I think is very good. Western Illinois won at Oral Roberts and the Eagles may have just executed their own death sentence with that loss.
New Standings - I am going to assume that NDSU goes on to beat the Jacks tonight.
NDSU 8-3 USD 8-4 Denver 7-4 Omaha 6-6 Fort Wayne 5-6 IUPUI 5-6 SDSU 5-7 Western Illinois 5-7 Oral Roberts 3-9
Denver is obviously a factor and they still play at NDSU, at WIU and at SDSU. If Denver loses two more games that should be the magic number to get the Yotes over them at the end.
Omaha could still be a thorn in the Coyotes side with a tie breaker that is still up in the air that is why their loss is so big tonight. They play their next game at IPFW so if they would lose that then they could play spoiler to help the Coyotes since they still play at Denver and vs NDSU.
Fort Wayne is not finishing higher than the Coyotes and who would have ever thunk it before the Summit season started. As long as the Coyotes win 2 games they lock IFPW behind them in the standings. Who would have thought that with 4 games left that it is a near certainty that the Coyotes will beat out this team.
SDSU is a long shot but if they win in Vermillion it is not quite over for them yet. They would probably have to run the table but ya never know.
Going further down is really grasping for straws. Basically we have to be a fan of Denver and NDSU to lose. Getting a top 3 seed is probably about a 90% or better chance of happening. Getting a top 2 seed is probably about a 70% chance of happening. Getting numero UNO is probably just a bit under 50% but 5 days ago those chances may have been lower then 10%.

The new standings
NDSU 9-3 USD 9-4 Denver 7-5 Fort Wayne 6-6 Omaha 6-7 IUPUI 5-7 WIU 5-7 SDSU 5-8 ORU 4-9
Only 3 of the 9 teams in conference are above .500 in the league. At least in the Denver at NDSU game one team had to lose and the Denver loss does help the Yotes solidify the #2 spot. Now if the Coyotes beat Oral Roberts on Saturday at home then they will clinch no worse then the #3 seed in the tourney and if Denver would lose 1 more they would clinch the #2 spot. If USD wins two more games they will clinch the #2 spot. NDSU still has to go to Fort Wayne and Omaha so their road is tougher at this point then USD's road is. USD is officially the hottest team in the league.

I hope this doesn't jinx it, but both the men's and women's teams seem to be on pace for postseason bids of some kind.
The women should already be a lock for the CBI, but if they keep winning they are on pace for an at-large WNIT bid at worst.
For the men, they haven't wrapped anything up yet, but seem to be on-pace for at least a CIT or CBI bid. Either would be a program first!
For now we should be just looking at the next game and positioning for SLT seed, but a guy can dream.

The conference has risen to the top 11 or 12 women conferences. The top 4 teams have fared well in the OOC schedule to position for this spot.

It would be a step forward to play on after the SLT, but the men played in the CIT in 2010 after winning the Great West tournament. They lost in the first round to Creighton 89-78. It has gotten to the point that about every men's team that finishes with an overall winning record against D1 competition gets a postseason bid of some sort. 150 teams got bids last year. Lose out and we would be 16-14, that's likely good enough to get a bid. That's not the goal obviously but it goes to show the steps forward the team has made this season.

There I go making ass-umptions. Hopefully we will get multiple bids on the men's side this year, but that didn't happen last year IIRC. NDSU and IPFW got the auto-bids to NCAA and NIT.
