SLT started in Sioux Falls in 2009. USD joined the SL in 2011. When did they implement the 2 year rule for the tickets? I honestly do not know. 2016-2017 was the first time they sold the all session passes in two year increments. I just re-upped for 2018-2019. Prior to that, I just bought all session passes 1 year at a time the year prior to the tournament. I never got preferred choice or anything like that. It was first come, first serve when I purchased them. I first purchased by present seats sometime in 2014. They aren't great, they're on the baseline lower bowl. 2014 game ample time after USD moved into Summit for fans to see that they need to plan ahead, regardless of team success to that point. As for the center sections lower bowl, I don't even know how many of those tickets are actually purchased by SDSU fans as opposed to corporate sponsors who are or give them to SDSU fans. The tournament isn't going anywhere and shouldn't go anywhere. It is wildly popular in Sioux Falls. I still believe this is because the teams that play here are the big ticket around here. The other locations it has been held at the teams are small fish in a big pond.

I bought them in 2015 not 2014. They always went on sale the SLT weekend, but they switched it that year and I couldn't remember exact dates. Anyway, I just bought them in Phase 2 by having purchases all tourney passes year prior to.

I have no desire to get drug into this myself, but here are my 2 cents. I have been going to many of the SLT games long before the Yotes were even D1 because it is good basketball. I bought all session passes the year before the Yotes were even eligible because I followed the Jacks message board close enough to realize how this was going to work out. I now have 5 all session passes in the lower bowl (have every year since the Yotes were eligible) that were secured the first year by standing in line a day before the tournament and the rest by the 2 year upgrades. I get it, the Jacks were there first and they are just playing by the rules that they themselves didn't make. By the time the average Yote fan was looking to buy all session passes, they were given an option of nose bleed, upper corners or the balcony. We go to all of the games, all 14, every year. That is much easier and more enjoyable to do when you are satisfied with your seats in row 10 at the 3 point line. If I was a Yote fan that didn't start buying tickets until 2 years ago, I wouldn't enjoy my experience near as much if my option was to sit in the upper deck and next year my option is to buy those same tickets for another 2 years or take a chance on getting lucky that someone dropped out that had better seats and I could be lucky enough to snag them. If that doesn't work, I could end up with worse seats than the first time.A few, certainly not all, Jacks fans like to criticize the Yote fan base for not showing up at the Denny. I went up to the upper bowl and watched a half of a game last year in one of the sessions that didn't include a South Dakota based team. I must say I probably wouldn't own tickets through 2019 right now if that was my only option. Jacks fans should be thankful they have what they have and they were instrumental in getting it where it is today. But it shouldn't be viewed as an entitlement. That's the issue here. I'm boxed out from buying good seats because someone bought them before USD was even in the Summit League. If the Summit League honestly cares to make Sioux Falls as neutral as possible they would seriously change their ticket strategy. Renewals and two-year packages are going to cater to few and leave the rest of the conference out in the cold. Not how a conference tournament should be run. It's unfair enough to the others that it's in the same location every year instead of rotating. Don't go a step further to shut out fans. Well seems like that dog don't hunt buddy. 2016-2017 was the first time they sold the all session passes in two year increments. I just re-upped for 2018-2019. Prior to that, I just bought all session passes 1 year at a time the year prior to the tournament. I never got preferred choice or anything like that. Thanks for the answer on the 2-year tickets. What was the first year one could purchase tickets a year in advance and keep the priority on those seats for the next year? Was that also in 2016 or from 2009 for the first tournament in SF?

Nevermind, so if one were to buy all session passes in 2014 for the 2015 SLT, that gave the priority to buy the 2 year option for 2016 and 2017 SLT. If you did not buy all session passes in 2014 for the 2015 SLT, you would not be able to buy the 2 year option for '16 and '17.
Prior to sales for the 2015 SLT, you could buy an all session pass, but it would be random seats each year?

Every year, including first year in the Denny, was purchased the year prior to at SLT. Last purchase was two years worth. Prior to last year, I'd never sat in same spot or was able to keep same spot. It was always first come first serve the next year when going to buy them. Going forward, I'm guessing it stays like this. Forcing people to buy two years gives SL and SFSA more guaranteed cash right now and I doubt they saw much of a drop off in sales because of it. No brainer for them.

Just having purchased 2015 SLT passes gave you access to Phase 2 of the sales in the current format. That's what the prior year purchase gave you. There never was an option before to keep your seats. Every year you had to go back and purchase best available seat. Not until 2015-2016, did you keep same seat 2 years in a row. And about a month ago was the first time I was just given the opportunity to keep my seats with a new purchase. I've now paid 2018-2019 in same spot because I initially purchased 2016-2017 in the fall of 2015 during Phase 2 selling period.

Agreed, and thanks for the explanation. As long as a fan purchased 2015 all session passes, they would have had a chance to lock in for '16 and '17. USD was in the league so really no excuse. Personally, I was not sure how it all worked. I am fine with the way it is and kudos to the fans who have purchased since 2015. It will be interesting to see if they change anything for the 2020 season with adding UND. Especially if there will be added sessions if they go to a 10 team tourney. If they do, I will be ready this time. If not, I am fine with that and would probably buy off the secondary market like I do now.

You could have still purchased 2016-2017 tickets without buying 2015 tickets, you just would've had to wait a few more days to buy them and potentially not have as good of seats remaining. I know a pretty big fan who had baseball SLT and had access to Phase 1 of selling and his tickets are just about the same as mine. He told me almost all of the good seats we're taken. He was online buying them as soon as the public possibly could have. So, either there were several thousand seats bought in seconds, or there are a lot of those really good seats that were never even made available to the public (Corporate Sponsors/Player Families). What's what in there, I'm not sure exactly. Just leads me to believe that. I just want it to be clear that USD fans had as fair of a shot as I had to get in there buy their tickets 1.5 years ago. You just had to buy 2 years worth. At this point, you just have to buy best available and hope you can move up in years to come. If you don't have good seats now, you're probably not going to. It's a high demand event that is a ton of fun and I relish it every year. We're truly lucky to have something like this here.

That is interesting that many seats were taken even when Phase 1 purchasers had the first crack at them. I need better connections!!

I used to do GA tickets and buy them only after SDSU would win a game. The seats we're always way lousier in the Arena than the reserved. You also had to show up about an hour before the game or risk being pretty dang high up. I finally ponied up for reserved in 2011. Best decision I ever made. Look forward to the SLT every year.

its a racket for sure, NDSU fans have always been turned off by going to the summit tourney, sdsu companies got their greedy mits on tickets back in 2009 and have passed them onto fans/employees.
its always been a 80% sdsu fanbase down there, but beating them & going to the Big Dance 3 times is worth it every time.. and they still haven't won a game in the big dance.
ps- who gives a crap about und basketball fans, you realize there will be literally 10 und fans next year at this tournament. 10 its not hockey
