Thumper you didn't and won't answer my question--Why not SDS logos??? And you evidently didn't get the memo that SDSU means San Diego State University!! Just ask ESPN, etc.... Because a 3 letter logo would be pointless and we have had the stretch interlocking SD since 1999 which was emulated by the yotes in 2012 with your spin of an interlocking SD. Also because we are the torchbearer for South Dakota in division one athletics being the first to have pioneered the transition and having represented the state the vast majority of the time in national post season competition in the three most followed sports in the country. That's not debatable. As a prior SDSU poster noted it's truly not close. Let me ask you. What do you think represents a state with an agricultural background as deep as South Dakota more, the ag school or doctors and lawyers? Your smack is as weak as your teams record in the MVFC year after year after year.

Let the pissing match commence! A true oracle. I don't care to speculate on one catching the other, the minute they entered into the same conferences you can look at league records to do all the talking. It is however asinine to say SDSU or NDSU have a main rival that resides in a different state. This goes way deeper than athletics. It's cultural first and foremost. Nothing will change that.

In the end, we can debate all we as USD fans want. We would like to believe we are catching up or have arrived but only time will tell. Making the NCAA in MBB is a must and getting back in WBB is a must too. FB needs to start winning some rivalry FB games and making playoffs consistently to earn any respect. I'd like to believe it is happening, but time will tell.

You're right Thumped a SDS logo is pointless so would be better to paint the ugly rabbit on your court than try to be something you're not! As the ESPN analyst last year said "who would name their team 'jackrabbits'"!! LOL By the way teachers, doctors, business people, lawyers, scientists, nurses, etc represent SD extremely well!!

Why is there even a debate about who should be called "South Dakota". It comes with the territory and is not based on anything other than a school being the "University" of a particular state. That is USD. Michigan State doesn't try to claim to be Michigan and Ohio State doesn't try to claim to be Ohio. The Ohio Bobcats are Ohio regardless of how far they are down in the pecking order to the Buckeyes. When a school is the State school their first name is the name of their state followed by the word "state". South Dakota State is exactly that and not South Dakota. It's the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and the South Dakota Coyotes. There is no debate and that is how it has always been and will always be. Dakota Wesleyan doesn't try to be just "Dakota". Mount Marty doesn't try to be the "Mount".

However, you chose a good example when you chose The Ohio State University if the discussion includes logos. Ohio State has many of them. The only letter on several of them is the letter "O". SDSU is certainly not without precedent or peers in using a logo with just the initial or initials of the state and not including an S for State or SU for State University.

Amen. What a completely pointless discussion. Settle it on the field/court. Exactly, let it die. Thumper lives to post on forums hence his presence on every board with thousands of posts (which most are smack or pointless).

Sorry to take away from the spite-filled trolling, but back to the game. Am I the only one who thought the Yotes, in general, really didn't play that well? Hurst and TBM - who are a big part of the recent ascent- were largely non-existent. (TBM struggled on O) And they gave up 89 points at home (yes, I know a shooter had a career day, but still). Add that long stretch of standing around on offense, and they just didn't seem as crisp as they have been. I am not trying to be critical, but people wanting to avoid the rabbits had me thinking - seems to me we are better than what we saw on Saturday, but I would say that is as good as SDSU gets. These are my thoughts exactly gopher. The D didn't have its usual tenacity. Tons of layups given up to the high pick n roll. Layups are the only way Orris could beat us. Very little on ball pressure given their guards' propensity for the turnover earlier in the year. Not rotating off the double of Daum to cover the only shooter on the floor (Tellinghuisen). Defensively I thought Flack did a good job on Daum but don't think we needed to double from more than 15 feet. Especially when you decide not to rotate to Tellinghuisen off the first pass out of the post.
Add the fact that when they went zone we acted like we've never seen it before and we allowed it to take Flack out of the game entirely. Daum couldn't stop Flack when in man. We didn't get cutters to the high post or get action to feed the post against the zone.
Finally with the game able to be clinched with free throws I would have considered one or two different guys on the floor. I know nobody's free throw stats are good but Peterson has such a smooth shot. Though his FT stats don't support it either. And earlier I thought he was one of the only bright spots understanding how to attack the zone. Outside of Mooney's ability to rescue us with long 3's.
Had we played a more complete game I believe we win by 20, whereas I don't see State capable of playing much better than they did.
But hey, way better than the results of our first meeting. For some reason I still walked out of the arena Saturday with a feeling of slight disappointment and I kept trying to remind myself we got a W. Maybe it's the bunny hater in me that yearns for a 20+ win every time we play them. Maybe it was a desire for revenge because that early loss to them might still haunt us for tournament ceding. Maybe just because this team should be better by 20.
Next test is upon us. We know we can beat the best and we know we can play great ball. Now we need to beat the teams we're suppose to beat.

Should I warn Thumper about smack in a non-smack thread? Nah, we run a better place here than they do over on the Bunny Board. Thumper, and all State fans, should be getting salty. SDSU's grip on this D-1 move is all but gone. The last piece USD needs to draw even is to win in football and that will come in short order. They all know it, the entire conference knows Coyote football is on the rise, yet rabbit fans refuse to see it. Oh well, we took the WBB mantle from them. We've passed them in MBB this year. Track & field, forget about it, not even close at this point. Softball, soccer, go right down the list and USD has either pulled even or passed SDSU by. Only two pieces of the puzzle left, a Summit basketball title, and a win in football with a trip to the playoffs, which will happen in short order. The Rabbit reign was short lived, I hope they enjoyed it while it lasted. The window of opportunity...slammed shut. Don't care who the XDSU's consider their rivals, I will forever enjoy the Yotes taking them down. Even though the Coyotes MBB is chasing the Summit League Conference title and the Jacks are chasing a spot in the Summit League tournament, it didn't reduce the fun of Saturday's win!! Fight, South Dakota! Because SDSU have never won the Summit League regular season title, or SL tournament, or been to the basketball NCAA's, Men or Women, or won a couple NCAA basketball tournament games (Women), or had a program ranked top 25 at the highest level nationally (Women, Wrestling). Seriously, congrats on finally putting a Men's basketball team on the court that can compete, but you may want to do a quick review of history. Oh, and you may want to take a second look at past history. Being a top seed at the SLT and going to the NCAA are two different things. And when you have two teams (IPFW and SDSU) who both have not lived up to expectations but have serious talent on the floor, talent that are capable of going off on you; this could very well be the year a mid to lower seed comes from no where to win the NCAA bid. And on the Women's side? SDSU are still the favorite this year, will be next year, and the year after that. Get used to it, AJ and his band of top 100 recruits aren't going anywhere.

On a side note it's so refreshing to have a consistently competitive team on the floor again! They generally move the ball well and have guys that can beat you in different ways. When they are dialed in on defense they are really tough.
I know our men's hoops drought wasn't too long lived and not near as ugly as state's transition was. But it coincided with state having good teams so it got old hearing about it all the time.

Jacks women not a shoo in for the tourney with USD and WIU, but hey hypocrisy is your forte.

I'm going to say that the game was very entertaining. Both teams played good ball and each could easily come back with the "if we had done this better" kind of stuff. Honestly, looking forward to a potential SLT matchup when both teams are healthy and see what happens. We won at Brookings when you were down Flack, and you got us at home without one of our starters. A neutral site matchup (relatively...) with all players healthy could make for a great game.
