Actually, blaming where you are at as some sort of deficit due to our "head start" is really weak and not supportable. If you compare the head-to-head records since USD joined the conference it looks like this:
MBB- SDSU leads 9-4 (your men went 1-1 the first two years and are now 2-7 the last 4. Not really a trend in the right direction...) WBB- SDSU leads 10-6 FB- SDSU leads 5-0 (from curb stomped to competitive, so I guess that is a plus)
Total head to head is 24-10 SDSU (13-2 advantage for SDSU in Brookings). So to say that USD is ready to pass us for conference supremacy, well the numbers (or "facts") really don't seem to support that when we look at results.
My humble opinion is regards to individual sports:
MBB- USD hasn't been in the ballpark of SDSU until this year when you combine a good USD and a down SDSU. Still, it has resulted in a 1-1 head to head with close wins in both. Now maybe USD is on the trend up, or maybe this is a small mini run in amongst mediocrity. Time will tell. As to the rivalry, I'm not sure what fans on a message board are going to say, but the attendance numbers seem to indicate people are more likely to come to the USD game than the NDSU game when it is in Brookings.
WBB- USD has been the primary rival (there, I said it...) of SDSU for the past few years. Really the SD teams have been the flagship of the Summit since, well, SDSU joined. Seems like these two programs will be attached at the hip for awhile. Always fun games to watch.
FB- USD has improved but is not at the same level as SDSU. The trend may appear to be going up, but again one season of not sucking doesn't really say much. And yes, the average SDSU fan gets up for the NDSU game more than the USD game. God I hate them...
So as to who is the bigger SDSU rival based on the big sports, the results:
WBB- USD FB- NDSU MBB- USD (slight advantage based off attendance numbers, even though I get more geared up for NDSU)
So there you go, you are our main rival based off real scientific research conducted by me...

Agreed the transiting excuse has no place in 2017, if anyone is even using it still. The bigger component was always the poor positions we were placed in by Boots and Meierkort anyways.

This whole argument the last few days is silly. However, one thing is very clear...SDSU fans cannot stand that we are better in MBB this year with the almighty Daum wasting a year in the cellar of the SL. Hell half of them won't even admit we are better.

Lol. I just like to argue with State fans. Dealing with them is like how the U.S. used to deal with communism, you stomp it out wherever you see it so it does not spread.
In the amended words of Winston Churchill, "We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."
"We shall fight them on the message boards, we shall fight them in the bars and in the taverns, we shall fight them wherever Jacks fans exist; we shall never surrender."

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this board is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Well, at least you Rabbit fans are still coming over here to run smack after your Lady Jacks choked it last night against WIU. Opens the door wide open for the Lady Yotes to win another conference title.
After last night, the door is wide open for both the men and women to claim conference titles if they take care of business. If that happens I would say our debate here is settled.

The window of opportunity...slammed shut. Don't care who the XDSU's consider their rivals, I will forever enjoy the Yotes taking them down. Even though the Coyotes MBB is chasing the Summit League Conference title and the Jacks are chasing a spot in the Summit League tournament, it didn't reduce the fun of Saturday's win!! Fight, South Dakota! Because SDSU have never won the Summit League regular season title, or SL tournament, or been to the basketball NCAA's, Men or Women, or won a couple NCAA basketball tournament games (Women), or had a program ranked top 25 at the highest level nationally (Women, Wrestling). Seriously, congrats on finally putting a Men's basketball team on the court that can compete, but you may want to do a quick review of history. Oh, and you may want to take a second look at past history. Being a top seed at the SLT and going to the NCAA are two different things. And when you have two teams (IPFW and SDSU) who both have not lived up to expectations but have serious talent on the floor, talent that are capable of going off on you; this could very well be the year a mid to lower seed comes from no where to win the NCAA bid. And on the Women's side? SDSU are still the favorite this year, will be next year, and the year after that. Get used to it, AJ and his band of top 100 recruits aren't going anywhere. "Yesterday, all my troubles (COYOTES!!) seemed so far away, now it looks as though they're here to stay (COYOTES!!), Oh, I believe in yesterday. Yesterday, love (Summit League) was such an easy game to play, Now, I need a place to hide away, Oh, I believe in yesterday."

Of course the bunnies will be the favorites to win both tournaments...
Their players were all born with basketballs in their hands at mid-court of the Premier Center in front of 10,000 screaming bunny fans to welcome them into this world as rabbits. Then, they were all raised in the Premier Center playing basketball 23 hours of the day until they were old enough to start their advanced farming education in Brookings. Their only days off from practicing bball was when the PBR came to town.
The rest of the SL should just stay home rather than waste their time hoping to get a bite of the "carrot" that is so rightfully due to the bunnies.

The only party of this that is true is the women will probably be favored in the tournament. The Summit League anything isn't rightfully due to SDSU.

What is the debate? Many schools have multiple rivals. I'd say NDSU and USD are both SDSU's rivals. The teams and fans really want to beat both of those schools. Pretty simple.

Ok so back to Jacks fans and them wanting to play USD in the first round of the tournament. I really don't understand why they would welcome that. If you are a Jacks fan would you want to play the hottest team in the league that is more then capable of winning big games on the road or would you want someone like Denver who is still a good team but not as hot as USD and might have 100 fans in attendance if lucky. Or they can play the Coyotes would will still have about 2,000 fans or more for a game such as that and will still have as many students in their student section as will SDSU. So it's either 6K or so of your own fans vs 100 Denver fans or 6K or so fans vs 2,500 fans. SDSU will have a big and loud crowd regardless but the advantage won't be as great against USD who will have plenty of their own fans and a team that will have no problem playing with energy and when the Coyotes play with energy they are a better team then the Jacks. The Coyotes just have a lot more ways to beat the Jacks, then the Jacks have to beat them.
I am not saying the Jacks couldn't win but my money would be on the Yotes. I don't want to play the Jacks in a one and done format but I think the likelihood of the Coyotes winning the tourney is a higher percentage. If the Coyotes repeat how they played the last 3 games I think they are heading to the NCAA's. I doubt their is a three game run that SDSU has put together that screams NCAA tournament.

Because most realistic Jacks fans realize we're probably not good enough to win three games in March, but we're good enough to win one and wreck somebodies season, might as well wreck yours.(LOL) All kidding aside it's all about match ups in March and for some reason we play pretty well against you guys. The Bison not so much, they seem to have our number and would be a tough match up for us. It took a career night from Daum to get past IPFW, we'll see how we do against them out there this weekend. As for Denver for some reason I really like that team, not a team I would want to face in SF. I'd have them as the outside chance to win the tourney behind the Yotes and the Bison. You guys have the better team and should handle us in the SLT.
