Just to stir the pot... Wondering if AJ stays at the Ag School this year...
His worst year coaching in awhile...
Program possibly getting stagnant...
Might be time to look for new opportunities...
If he leaves, I have bragging rights for calling it first!

I agree usdtator about Johnson. I think Amy's promotion to Nebraska was a bigger deal to him then many may recognize. She coached for 4 years at this level and moved onto a power program. AJ has been head coach at SDSU forever and assistant before that. He has to feel a little bit overlooked with what he has done with the Jacks program. It's lucky for SDSU and unlucky for him that the right opportunity hasn't presented itself. Maybe it's time to see how their program will react by having to be coached by someone else.

Didn't he take another job only to turn around and back out on the deal while he was on his way there?

That situation may still be affecting his demand. I mean, I don't personally know this, but I would think if I was looking for a prospective coach something like that would cool my jets a little on pursuing him. Wouldn't want to end up looking bad if he pulled a repeat.

Back in 2014 there was a rumor that he was a finalist for the Minnesota job, too. No idea if it was true.

I don't blame him for changing his mind as the Jacks program is just as good as Green Bay's. There is a huge difference between going there vs going to a place like Nebraska. If Johnston was hired by Minnesota there is no way he changes his mind especially with what the salary increase would have been. It's kind of like he and Amy were in the same company, and the hot commodity and impressive new intern Amy comes in Wows the bosses and gets that promotion that A.J. was passed over for. It's not exactly the same of course but it would have to feel similar. Honestly if I am a big school I don't hold what he did to Green Bay against him too much. That was a lateral move so for him and to reconsider is certainly not an unreasonable thing to do. He had an honest change of heart. I don't see a problem with that.

I can't believe he hasn't gotten more offers, unless he is and he's just not taking them. AJ has had a lot of success. Maybe he's just content with where he's at and isn't looking to move.

Not taking the job was not the issue, CF. I agree that the SDSU job is just as good as the Green Bay job. It's taking the job, GB thinking they have their coach, then backing out of it. Burned the Ad and I'm sure other ADs took notice.
Either way, doesn't matter. Very successful at SDSU and seems very happy to be there.

Word on the street is HBO is bringing back the series "Eastbound and Down" and AJ is going to take over the role of Stevie. He kind of talks like Stevie too.

I think part of A.J.'s decision to stay in Brookings involved family priority. That doesn't mean he won't leave Brookings, but it may take things more important than money and prestiger to hire him away.

I find it hard to believe that had he been offered a pay increase of $300-$400k that Brookings was so enticing for him and his family that he wouldn't have moved his family.
