Wow. hard for me to understand why any team in a conference like the summit league would turn down any postseason bid unless they do not want to spend the money or do not have the money to go play in these tournaments. NDSU has turned down bids in each of the last two seasons. Team was in a bad place last year with some injuries and personal issues, this year the school didn't want to pay for it. The athletics department is under a microscope with the state budget cuts right now, while we avoided the painful cuts that UND is going to have to make...losing money on a meaningless tournament is not a good look.

chewelahindependent.com/lead-yeah-gonzaga-going-win-first-game/The Chewelah Independent has their very own Stu "The Agitator" Whitney writing for them. His words almost make me want to cheer for the bunnies today. ALMOST. Gonzaga has built a very prominent men's basketball program. I find it funny however when a school like Gonzaga's fan base who works so hard to earn respect from the power 5 schools turns around and goes out of their way to be a flat out asshole.

Sorry... but will never and can never cheer for the bunnies. I know the argument for "it's good for the SL... It's good for SD..." I don't care. I even had some bunny fans say they were cheering for the Yotes last night... Good for you... Don't care... Didn't ask you to... Watching ALL the local media outlets falling over themselves to cover the bunnies and their "historic attempt to unseat a #1 seed" makes me want to puke. If that makes me close minded and not seeing the bigger picture... oh well... deal with it. Cannot and will not cheer for the bunnies... ever...! Go Zags!

I think that article was quite the hack-job, though. The guy didn't research literally anything about the Jacks. Just make some sweeping generalizations about how crappy they must be based on full-season stats, and because..... SD has a low population. Some serious thought must have gone into that: So he compared the Summit League Tournament with two major conferences (not really a fair comparison), and the Big Sky, which could barely muster 2k fans to the championship game? Hell, he left out Gonzaga's conference tournament, the WCC. Yes, Vegas is a fun city, but even the mighty Zags had less fans at their championship (8.1K) than at any single session of the SLT. SF may not be as fun a tourist venue, but isn't the tournament atmosphere a better point of comparison?

That's the funny thing, he blasts SD for a low population and the SLT had more attendance than Zaga's conference tourney.

I've heard about this piece a few times the past couple days, but it's not nearly as offensive as I expected based on the accounts coming from state fans.......it all makes sense now.
Hack writer points out South Dakota has a low population. Nothing we haven't seen before.
Says the Summit must be bad if a 4 seed can win the tournament, then lauds the ACC - which was won by a 5 seed this year. Again, clearly a hack writer.
Points out that SDSU has no idea what defense is and that they aren't going to win. Correct on both counts.
I don't get the big deal. It's upsetting this guy gets paid to write crap like this, but that's true of many media outlets.

OMG!!!! Daum just got called for his first ever charging foul!!!! Hopefully Summit league refs took note that you can call a charge on him. I hope he tries to run some people over and see how that goes for him. My guess is it won't go quite as well for him as it does with Summit officials.

OMG!!!! Daum just got called for his first ever charging foul!!!! Called It! I know the bunnies are leading early but does anybody doubt how this will end? The "powers that be" will not allow it. Unless...Gonzaga isn't really "one of them". Listening to some guys on the radio last night they were all over the Zags, saying the WCC was weak, that they spent the last 17 years banking up easy wins, and that it was time to put up or shut up. Point being, the Power Brokers would never allow one of their P5 darlings to lose to a 16 seed, too damaging to the brand, but offering up the Zags as the first 1 seed to ever lose to a 16 seed. Kills two birds with one stone. We have history, and a darling to sell for March Madness and it takes Gonzaga down a peg, and on a lower level than P5 schools. End my conspiracy theory rant for the day, but if it happens...Called It!

Yes, I'm sure the powers that be have willed Gonzaga to miss about a thousand open 3's in the first half.
It is funny watching Daum try to play the post today. Can't bowl anyone over, can't score anything underneath. A shocking 0/0 from the free throw line!
